What xAI (BYOK) is for
xAI (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own xAI data through the xAI API with a key you supply (xAI API key). Read-only: 11 tools (get_api_key_info, get_caller_identity, list_models, get_model, list_language_models, list_embedding_models, list_image_generation_models, list_video_generation_models, list_files, get_file_metadata, list_skills). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.x.ai. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by xAI. xAI and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.
Ask your assistant things like:
- "What permissions does my xAI API key have and is it disabled?"
- "Which xAI team and user does this key belong to?"
- "Which Grok models can my xAI key use and what do they cost?"
- "What is the context length and price of grok-4?"
- "Which xAI language models accept image input?"
- "Which embedding models does xAI offer my key?"
What it does
get_api_key_info: Show the API key in use: its name, redacted form, permissions (acls), blocked or disabled state, team id and creation and modification times. Never returns the full key.get_caller_identity: Show who the key authenticates as: team id, user id, whether the team is blocked, zero data retention status and the key's id and state.list_models: List every model the key can use with id, aliases, context length and token prices (prices are integers in xAI's own units).get_model: Get one model's id, aliases, context length, token prices and supported reasoning effort levels.list_language_models: List chat and image-understanding models with modalities, token prices, search price and long-context threshold.list_embedding_models: List embedding models available to the key with modalities and token prices.list_image_generation_models: List image generation models available to the key with maximum prompt length and prices. Only lists models; it does not generate images.list_video_generation_models: List video generation models available to the key. Only lists models; it does not generate video.list_files: List files uploaded by your team with name, size, purpose and expiry. Pass pagination_token from the previous answer for the next page; the end is reached when fewer than limit files come back.get_file_metadata: Get one uploaded file's metadata (name, size, purpose, dates). Does not download the file content.list_skills: List the skills in your xAI account with name, description and latest version. Page with after (the last_id of the previous answer).
BYOK key
You bring your own xAI xAI API key (https://console.x.ai). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.x.ai over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
Data sources

Live from the xAI API (api.x.ai) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.x.ai/openapi.json. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.
What it is not
Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by xAI. xAI and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your xAI account.
