What Zep (BYOK) is for

Zep (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Zep data through the Zep API with a key you supply (Zep project API key). Read-only: 9 tools (list_users, get_user, list_threads, list_user_threads, get_thread_messages, get_thread_summary, list_graphs, list_context_templates, list_graph_ontology). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.getzep.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Zep. Zep and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which users exist in my Zep project?"
  • "Show Zep user user_1024."
  • "Which conversation threads does my Zep project have?"
  • "Which threads does Zep user user_1024 have?"
  • "What are the latest messages in Zep thread thread-12345?"
  • "Summarize Zep thread thread-12345."

What it does

  • list_users: List the users stored in your Zep project (newest first by default) with their ids, first name and creation time; supports search and paging.
  • get_user: Get one Zep user by user_id: name, time zone, creation time and whether the default ontology is disabled.
  • list_threads: List conversation threads in the project with the user each belongs to and creation time.
  • list_user_threads: List all conversation threads of one Zep user.
  • get_thread_messages: Read the messages stored in one thread (role, name, text, time). Use lastn for only the newest messages, or limit with cursor to page.
  • get_thread_summary: Get the running summary Zep generated from a thread's messages (404 when none exists yet).
  • list_graphs: List the standalone knowledge graphs in the project (not user graphs) with id, name and description; supports search and paging.
  • list_context_templates: List the context templates (template id and text) defined in the project.
  • list_graph_ontology: Show the custom entity types and edge types configured for the project's graphs.

BYOK key

You bring your own Zep Zep project API key (https://help.getzep.com/v3/quickstart). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.getzep.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Zep API (api.getzep.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://help.getzep.com/v3/llms.txt. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Zep. Zep and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Zep account.
