What Canada Rules Change Radar is for

Change radar for Canadian small-business reference data. It reads the public open.canada.ca dataset records (the CKAN package_show API) of five watched datasets: the CRA GST/HST rate table, Job Bank wages, CanadaBuys tender notices, the Business Benefits Finder programs and the Recalls and Safety Alerts data. It reports each record's published modified date, update frequency and resource dates, compares them with the baseline read on 2026-09-29 and with a date you choose, and links to the official page. It never says what the change is: it points to the record to read. It does not watch CRA rate pages, minimum wage pages or CPP/EI tables (no machine-readable feed was found), and a stable file URL can be replaced without the record's date moving. General information only.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which official open datasets behind Canadian business rates have changed since last week?"
  • "Which sources does the radar watch and what was their date when you last read them?"
  • "Has the GST/HST rate table dataset been updated since 1 January 2026?"
  • "How old are the files in the Job Bank wages dataset compared with its stated update frequency?"
  • "Show me the record, licence and files of an open.canada.ca dataset by its identifier."

What it does

  • list_watched_sources: The watched open.canada.ca datasets with their identifiers, stated update frequency and the baseline date read on 2026-09-29.
  • check_changes: Fetch the watched dataset records now and report which show a newer modified date than the baseline or than a date you give.
  • summarize_change: Plain-language summary of one watched source: its modified date now, the baseline, whether it moved since a date, and the link to read.
  • dataset_status: The open.canada.ca record of a watched source or of any dataset identifier: title, licence, update frequency, modified dates and files.
  • resource_freshness: Age of each file of a dataset from its last_modified date against the dataset's stated update frequency.

Data sources

What it is not

Canada Rules Change Radar is independent; not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any government body, central bank, standards body or scheme operator. Names of rails, schemes and standards are used only to say what a tool works with. It is read-only: it never sends, pays, files or signs anything for you, and it never looks up private individuals.

Not advice. General information only, not legal, tax, accounting or payment advice. Tools

Look up & validate

list_watched_sources — The watched open.canada.ca datasets with their identifiers, links, stated update frequency and the baseline modified date read on 2026-09-29. Use for "Which sources does the radar watch and what was their date when you last read them?".

check_changes — Fetch the watched dataset records now and report which show a newer modified date than the baseline or than a date you give, with links to read. Use for "Which official open datasets behind Canadian business rates have changed since last week?". Args: since, sources.

Reference & guides

summarize_change — Plain-language summary of one watched source: its published modified date now, the baseline read on 2026-09-29, whether it moved since a date, and the link to read. Use for "Has the GST/HST rate table dataset been updated since 1 January 2026?". Args: source, since.

dataset_status — The open.canada.ca record of a watched source or of any dataset identifier: title, licence, update frequency, modified dates and files (first 50). Use for "Show me the record, licence and files of an open.canada.ca dataset by its identifier.". Args: dataset.

resource_freshness — Age in days of each file of a dataset from its last_modified date, set against the update frequency the record states (only ISO durations such as P1D, P1M or P1Y are compared). Use for "How old are the files in the Job Bank wages dataset compared with its stated update frequency?". Args: dataset, on_date.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.
