What Canada Payroll Rates is for

Computes the statutory payroll contributions a Canadian employer withholds and matches: Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and the second additional CPP (CPP2), Employment Insurance (EI, federal or reduced Quebec rate, employer 1.4 times), and in Quebec the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP, with its second additional contribution) and the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP). Rates, maximums and the basic exemption are stored per year (2025 and 2026, EI also the listed 2027 rates) with source, page date and a verification level, and every answer says which year it used. Tools work per pay period with year-to-date amounts, or for a whole year of even pay: employer statutory cost, and the pay period in which the employee reaches each annual maximum. Announced changes are labelled by status (the CPP base rate cut announced for 2027-01-01 is 'proposed', not applied). Income tax withholding, provincial payroll taxes and workers' compensation premiums are not included. General information only, not payroll advice.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What CPP and EI do I withhold and match on a $2,500 biweekly paycheque in 2026?"
  • "When in 2026 does my $120,000 employee stop paying CPP and EI?"
  • "What do QPP, QPIP and Quebec EI add to the cost of a $60,000 employee in Quebec?"
  • "How did the CPP and EI maximums change from 2025 to 2026?"
  • "My employee has been paid $70,000 so far this year: how much CPP2 applies to this $8,000 payment?"

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.
