custom_infocustom_infocustom_searchmeal_time_guidegreeting_guidepunctuality_normsgift_giving_etiquettebusiness_etiquetteregional_custom_variationetiquette_glossaryCostumbre ("custom") is a fully local Spanish social customs and etiquette guide. custom_info gives one custom's description and significance across seven everyday customs — siesta, sobremesa, paseo, dos besos, Sunday family lunch, tapeo, and late meal times — with real modern nuance rather than stale stereotype (the siesta entry explicitly notes its decline in most urban workplaces); custom_search does a keyword search across those customs. meal_time_guide gives the typical Spanish meal schedule (lunch around 2-3pm, dinner around 9-10pm) contrasted with earlier northern-European/US timing. greeting_guide covers formal (handshake) vs. informal (dos besos) contexts, who initiates, and regional variation. punctuality_norms covers general tendencies around social vs. business punctuality without blanket stereotyping. gift_giving_etiquette and business_etiquette cover general social and professional norms. regional_custom_variation covers Catalonia, the Basque Country (Euskadi), Andalusia and Galicia — their distinct regional languages and identities, described factually and respectfully with no position taken on any independence or political question. etiquette_glossary defines about ten core terms (sobremesa, paseo, tapeo, siesta, propina, dos besos, and more). Keyless; fully local, zero upstream calls; every guideline is a general cultural tendency, not a fixed rule.
Sources: Hand-authored from widely-documented Spanish social convention, cross-checked against current reporting on siesta decline, punctuality and regional-identity nuance; fully local, zero upstream calls

This connector is a fully local Spanish social customs and etiquette guide — the everyday rhythms, greetings and unwritten rules that come up whenever a visitor, newcomer or business contact interacts with Spanish culture — gathered in one place and, where a practice has genuinely shifted over time (the siesta above all), described with that nuance rather than as a fixed, timeless stereotype.
A single custom's description and significance, across seven everyday customs — siesta, sobremesa, paseo, dos
besos, Sunday family lunch, tapeo, and late meal times (custom_info); a keyword search across those customs
(custom_search); the typical Spanish meal schedule — breakfast, lunch around 2-3pm, an afternoon merienda,
dinner around 9-10pm or later — contrasted with earlier northern-European/US mealtimes (meal_time_guide);
formal (handshake) vs. informal (dos besos) greeting conventions, who typically initiates, and a regional
variation note (greeting_guide); general tendencies around social vs. business punctuality, explicitly
caveated as tendencies rather than fixed traits (punctuality_norms); general gift-giving norms for home
visits, celebrations and business contexts (gift_giving_etiquette); general business etiquette — greeting
customs, business-meal conventions, and the emphasis on relationship-building (business_etiquette); a
region's overview and distinctive cultural/linguistic notes for Catalonia, the Basque Country (Euskadi),
Andalusia, or Galicia (regional_custom_variation); and a glossary of about ten core terms — sobremesa,
paseo, tapeo, siesta, propina, dos besos, and more (etiquette_glossary).
Not a stereotype checklist. Spain is culturally diverse by region, generation, city size and setting, and a number of once-common practices have genuinely changed — the siesta as an actual midday nap has declined sharply in most urban workplaces, and punctuality norms vary a great deal by context rather than being a fixed national trait. This connector says so explicitly rather than presenting either as settled fact. It also does not take any position on regional independence or self-governance movements mentioned in the regional notes for Catalonia, the Basque Country or Galicia — those are described strictly as facts of each region's public life, not as arguments for or against any political outcome.
custom_info — A single Spanish social custom's description and significance, plus a modern-day note where a once-common practice (like the siesta) has genuinely shifted. Covers siesta, sobremesa, paseo, dos besos, Sunday family lunch, tapeo, and late meal times. Use for "what is sobremesa", "is the siesta still practiced", "what is tapeo". Args: name.
custom_search — Search Spanish social customs by keyword across their name, category, summary and description. Use for "which customs involve eating", "find customs about greetings". Args: query.
meal_time_guide — The typical Spanish meal schedule — breakfast, lunch (often 2-3pm), an afternoon merienda, and dinner (often 9-10pm or later) — contrasted with earlier northern-European/US mealtimes. A genuine, well-documented cultural difference. Use for "what time do people eat dinner in Spain", "when is lunch in Spain".
greeting_guide — Formal (handshake) vs. informal (dos besos) greeting conventions, who typically initiates, and a regional variation note. Pass a context to get just that one, or omit it for both. Use for "how do you greet someone in Spain", "do you shake hands or kiss in a Spanish business meeting". Args: context.
punctuality_norms — General tendencies around social vs. business punctuality in Spain, with an explicit caveat that these vary by region, generation and setting rather than being a fixed national trait. Use for "are Spaniards punctual", "is it okay to be late to a party in Spain".
gift_giving_etiquette — General Spanish gift-giving norms for home visits, celebrations and business contexts — what's common, what to avoid (like chrysanthemums), and how modest business gift-giving typically is. Use for "what should I bring to a Spanish dinner party", "is gift-giving common in Spanish business".
business_etiquette — General Spanish business etiquette — professional greeting customs, business-card and meeting norms, typical business-meal conventions, and the emphasis on relationship-building before deals move forward. Use for "what's business etiquette like in Spain", "how long do Spanish business lunches run".
regional_custom_variation — A Spanish region's overview and distinctive cultural/linguistic notes — Catalonia, the Basque Country (Euskadi), Andalusia, or Galicia. Regional and linguistic facts are described factually and respectfully; where a region has a notable regional-identity or self-governance movement, that is stated as a fact of its public life without taking any political position. Use for "what's different about Catalonia", "tell me about Basque culture". Args: region.
etiquette_glossary — Definitions of common Spanish social/etiquette terms (sobremesa, paseo, tapeo, siesta, propina, dos besos, and more). Use for "what does sobremesa mean", "what's propina". Args: term.

What Costumbre (Custom) is. Costumbre (Custom) is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a fully local Spanish social customs and etiquette guide — everyday customs, meal times, greetings, punctuality norms, gift-giving and business etiquette, regional variation, and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a custom name or search keyword, a greeting context, a region name, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from bundled, hand-authored reference files and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Not professional or political advice. This connector is a cultural reference and etiquette guide, not legal, business or travel advice, and it does not take a position on any political question — including regional independence or self-governance movements mentioned in its regional notes.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
