Real questions, and the tools your agent calls to answer them.
dicho_infodicho_searchdichos_by_categorydicho_of_the_dayequivalent_findermeaning_explainerregional_variant_noteusage_exampleglossarydicho_infoDicho (Saying) is a hand-curated reference of traditional Spanish-language dichos (sayings) and refranes (proverbs), focused on Mexican usage with notable regional variants across Spain, Argentina and elsewhere noted where genuinely documented. dicho_info gives one dicho's Spanish text, a literal word-for-word English translation, its real meaning/lesson, the closest English equivalent idiom where one genuinely exists (left empty rather than forced), and a usage example sentence in Spanish with an English translation. dicho_search does a keyword search across Spanish text, translation, meaning and category. dichos_by_category groups dichos by category: love, money, family, work, wisdom/caution, food, time/patience. dicho_of_the_day returns a deterministic pick for today's date, the same for everyone asking that day. equivalent_finder takes either an English idiom/proverb or a Spanish dicho and finds the closest match in the other language from this dataset, only when a genuinely close equivalent exists. meaning_explainer gives a fuller explanation of a dicho's figurative sense plus its typical context of use. regional_variant_note says, where documented, whether a dicho has a known wording difference across Mexico, Spain, Argentina or elsewhere. usage_example returns just a dicho's example sentence. glossary distinguishes "dicho", "refrán", "frase hecha" and "modismo" as categories, plus short grammar notes (the impersonal/reflexive "se", tú vs. vos), and can also browse the full dataset. Keyless; fully local, zero upstream calls; a hand-curated, family-friendly reference verified as of its build date.

The moment a Mexican friend, an abuela, a telenovela character or a family WhatsApp chat drops a line like "camarón que se duerme, se lo lleva la corriente" or "a falta de pan, tortillas" and the words alone don't tell you what's actually meant — answered from one hand-curated reference of traditional dichos (sayings) and refranes (proverbs), not a scroll through forum threads or a shaky machine translation.
The focus is Mexican usage — the dichos a Mexican household, workplace or telenovela actually reaches for — with notable regional variants across Spain, Argentina and the wider Spanish-speaking world noted where genuinely documented, and never invented where they aren't.
Look up over a hundred real, well-known Spanish-language dichos and refranes: each one's Spanish text, a
literal word-for-word English translation, its real meaning or life lesson, a usage example sentence in
Spanish with an English translation, and — only where one genuinely exists — the closest equivalent
English idiom or proverb (dicho_info); search by keyword across every dicho's text, translation, meaning
and category (dicho_search); browse by category — love, money, family, work, wisdom and caution, food,
or time and patience (dichos_by_category); get a deterministic dicho of the day, the same for everyone
asking on a given date (dicho_of_the_day); go either direction between an English idiom and a Spanish
dicho to find the closest match this dataset actually has (equivalent_finder); get a fuller explanation
of a dicho's figurative sense plus the typical context in which it's said (meaning_explainer); check
whether a dicho is known to have a different wording in Spain, Argentina or elsewhere versus its Mexican
form (regional_variant_note); pull just a dicho's example sentence (usage_example); and look up short
glossary entries distinguishing "dicho", "refrán", "frase hecha" and "modismo" as categories, plus a couple
of grammar notes that come up constantly in these sayings — the impersonal/reflexive "se" and tú vs. vos —
or browse the entire dataset at a glance (glossary).
Not a live translation service and not an exhaustive academic proverb corpus — Dicho (Saying) is a hand-curated reference, verified as of the build date stated in its own data, covering the dichos a learner or a curious visitor is actually likely to run into, with a primary lens on Mexican usage. Oral proverbs vary in exact wording across region, generation and household, so treat the Spanish text here as the well-known standard form rather than the only correct one. English equivalents are given only where a genuinely close idiom or proverb exists in English; many Spanish-language dichos simply don't have one, and this connector says so honestly instead of forcing a mismatched comparison. Regional variants are noted only where genuinely documented — a handful of entries, not every saying, because most dichos here are used the same way across the Spanish-speaking world this connector tracks. The dataset is kept family-friendly on purpose. For a rare, hyper-local, or brand-new dicho not covered here, ask a native speaker.
dicho_info — Look up one Spanish-language dicho/refrán: its Spanish text, a literal English translation, its real meaning/lesson, the closest English equivalent idiom where one genuinely exists, and a usage example sentence in Spanish with an English translation. Use for "what does 'camarón que se duerme' mean", "explain the saying about the gift horse". Args: text_or_query.
dicho_search — Search across every dicho's Spanish text, literal translation, meaning, English equivalent and categories for a keyword. Use for "find dichos about money", "any Mexican saying about patience". Args: query.
dichos_by_category — List every dicho tagged with one category -- love, money, family, work, wisdom/caution, food, or time/patience. Use for "show me Mexican sayings about family", "dichos about money". Args: category.
dicho_of_the_day — A deterministic "dicho of the day" -- the same Spanish saying for everyone asking on a given calendar date -- with its full explanation. Use for "dicho of the day", "teach me a Mexican saying for today".
equivalent_finder — Given either an English idiom/proverb or a Spanish dicho, finds the closest match in the other language from this dataset -- only when a genuinely close equivalent exists in the bundled data, never a forced match. Use for "what's the Mexican saying for 'the early bird catches the worm'", "is there an English equivalent for 'camarón que se duerme'". Args: text.
meaning_explainer — A fuller explanation of a dicho's figurative sense -- contrasting the literal, word-for-word translation with what it actually means -- plus the typical context in which it gets said, with an example. Use for "explain what 'a falta de pan, tortillas' really means and when people say it". Args: dicho.
regional_variant_note — Where documented, notes whether a dicho has a known wording or usage difference across Mexico, Spain, Argentina or elsewhere in the Spanish-speaking world. Most dichos have no documented split and this says so honestly rather than inventing one. Use for "is this dicho used in Spain too", "does 'a falta de pan' have a different version in Spain". Args: dicho.
usage_example — Just a dicho's example sentence: one natural usage sentence in Spanish with its English translation. Use for "give me an example sentence using 'no todo lo que brilla es oro'". Args: dicho.
glossary — A short glossary distinguishing "dicho", "refrán", "frase hecha" and "modismo" as categories, plus grammar notes relevant to reading these sayings (the impersonal/reflexive "se", tú vs. vos) -- or, with list_all, a lightweight browse of every dicho in the dataset. Use for "what's the difference between a dicho and a refrán", "what does 'se' mean in these sayings", "list every dicho you have". Args: term, list_all.
ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.agent@connectorbay.com · connectorbay.com/dicho/support

What Dicho (Saying) is. Dicho (Saying) is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated reference of traditional Spanish-language proverbs and sayings, focused on Mexican usage: dicho lookups and search, category browsing, an equivalent finder, a meaning explainer, regional-variant notes, usage examples, a dicho of the day, and a small glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a dicho, a search keyword, a category, an English phrase, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Dicho (Saying) is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant. The dataset is kept family-friendly on purpose.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
