About

Divot bundles golf rules, scoring, and handicap reference into one connector, hand-curated and verified against official sources with no upstream calls. handicap_index_explainer explains the Handicap Index concept — the Score Differential formula, how the best 8 of a golfer's most recent 20 rounds are averaged, and the soft/hard caps — as a general explainer, not an official calculator. score_term_info covers birdie, eagle, albatross (double eagle), the rare condor, bogey, double bogey and beyond, and the hole-in-one, with the exact relationship to par for each. rules_situation_guide explains out of bounds, penalty areas/water hazards, unplayable lies, provisional balls, and lost balls, with the applicable rule and typical penalty plus a reminder to consult the official Rules of Golf or a rules official for an actual ruling. club_info covers driver, fairway woods, hybrids, numbered irons, the pitching/gap/sand/lob wedges, and the putter with typical loft ranges. course_terminology_guide defines fairway, rough, green, apron, dogleg, penalty area, stroke index and more. etiquette_guide covers pace of play, divot and ball-mark repair, flagstick handling, the honor system, and bunker raking. scoring_format_info explains stroke play, match play, and Stableford scoring mechanics. par_and_scoring_reference covers the par-3/4/5 concept and typical yardage ranges. golf_glossary defines general terms like lie, loft, slice, hook, draw, fade, mulligan, and gimme. Keyless; nothing stored; a general reference, not an official ruling body or handicap calculator.

What Divot is for

The question that comes up on and off the course — how is a handicap actually calculated, what's the difference between a birdie and an eagle, what happens if my ball goes in the water, what loft is a 7-iron, who tees off first — answered from one hand-curated golf reference, verified against the official Rules of Golf and the World Handicap System, without a scroll through contradictory forum threads.

What it does

An explanation of the World Handicap System's Handicap Index concept — the Score Differential formula, how the best 8 of a golfer's most recent 20 rounds are averaged (and the sliding scale used with fewer rounds), the soft/hard caps on upward movement, and how a Course Handicap is derived from it — as a general explainer, not an official calculator (handicap_index_explainer). The exact relationship to par for every common scoring term — birdie, eagle, albatross (double eagle), the vanishingly rare condor, bogey, double bogey, and beyond, plus the hole-in-one — with how rare each one is (score_term_info). Plain-language guidance on common rules situations — out of bounds, penalty areas/water hazards, unplayable lies, provisional balls, and lost balls — with the applicable rule and typical penalty, always paired with a reminder to consult the official Rules of Golf or a rules official for an actual ruling (rules_situation_guide). Typical loft range and use for driver, fairway woods, hybrids, every numbered iron, the pitching/gap/sand/lob wedges, and the putter — general figures, not manufacturer specs (club_info). A course-features glossary covering fairway, rough, green, apron, dogleg, penalty area, cart path, stroke index, and more (course_terminology_guide). The basics of golf etiquette — pace of play, repairing divots and ball marks, flagstick handling, the honor system, bunker raking, and staying quiet during another player's swing (etiquette_guide). How stroke play, match play, and Stableford scoring actually work, including the Stableford points table (scoring_format_info). The par-3/4/5(/6) concept, typical yardage ranges for each, a standard 18-hole course's total par, and round-scoring terms like "2 under" or "even par" (par_and_scoring_reference). And a glossary of general gameplay terms — lie, loft, slice, hook, draw, fade, mulligan, gimme, fore, stance, grip, scratch golfer, and honor (golf_glossary).

What it is not

Not an official ruling body, an official Handicap Index calculator, or a substitute for the official Rules of Golf, the World Handicap System / Rules of Handicapping, or a rules official. Handicap Index and Course Handicap figures here explain the concept and the formulas involved — an actual, usable Handicap Index can only be issued and maintained by an authorized golf association or handicap system (such as USGA GHIN in the US) from a golfer's real, posted scores. Rules situations can turn on facts this reference can't see — the exact lie, stance, equipment, and any local rules a committee has adopted — so a real dispute or an unusual situation is always worth a specific ruling from a rules official rather than a general lookup here.

Handicap & Scoring

handicap_index_explainer — Explains the World Handicap System's Handicap Index concept: the Score Differential formula, how the best 8 of a golfer's most recent 20 rounds are averaged (with the sliding scale for fewer rounds), the soft/hard caps on upward movement, and how a Course Handicap is derived from it. Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Divot — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Divot is. Divot is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated golf rules, scoring, and handicap reference: the World Handicap System's handicap-index concept, score-to-par terminology, common rules situations, club types, course terminology, scoring formats, and etiquette basics. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a scoring term, a rules situation, a club name, a course or glossary term, or a scoring format — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. We never receive or store an actual Handicap Index, real scorecards, or any other personal golf record — every handicap-related answer is a general explanation of the concept and its formulas, not a calculation run on your own scores. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Divot is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Divot — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Divot connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Divot returns a hand-curated golf rules, scoring, and handicap reference — the World Handicap System's handicap-index concept, score-to-par terminology, common rules situations, club types, course terminology, scoring formats, and etiquette basics — from data verified against official sources at build time. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Not an official ruling body, and not a handicap calculator. Divot is an independent reference tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by the R&A, the USGA, any golf association, club, or tour. It does not issue an official Handicap Index, does not adjudicate real rules disputes, and nothing in the Service should be relied on as an actual ruling or as the basis for a wagering or competition decision.
  3. Rules and methodology can change. Content reflects the Rules of Golf and the World Handicap System / Rules of Handicapping as verified as of the Service's own stated build reference; always check the official Rules of Golf, the Rules of Handicapping, or a rules official for anything that needs to be authoritative.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
