About

Flock is a hand-curated backyard and common-bird identification reference. bird_info gives a full profile for one of 68 species — size, field marks, habitat, behavior, song, region, conservation note if notable; bird_search does a keyword search across name, field marks, habitat and colors. identify_by_features takes loose descriptive filters (size, colors seen, habitat, region) and ranks candidate species by real multi-field scoring. birds_by_region and birds_by_habitat list species by North America/India/Brazil/widespread or by habitat type. similar_species gives hand-authored look-alike comparisons (American Crow vs. Common Raven, Downy vs. Hairy Woodpecker, and more). birdsong_description is a standalone call/song lookup. attracting_guide gives practical feeder, food and native-plant tips, optionally by region. birdwatching_glossary defines common birding terms. random_bird gives a bird-of-the-day pick. Keyless; fully local; a field-guide-level reference, not a photo-ID tool.

Sources: Hand-curated from general field-guide-level ornithological knowledge as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Flock is for

The question that comes up on every walk or coffee-on-the-porch moment — what's that bird, is that a crow or a raven, what does a cardinal sound like, what should I put in my feeder — answered from one hand-curated, field-guide-level reference, without needing a photo or a live sightings database.

What it does

A full profile for one of 68 common birds — size, field marks, habitat, behavior, song/call description, region, and a conservation note where notable (bird_info); keyword search across name, field marks, habitat, colors and behavior (bird_search); genuine multi-field candidate matching from loose descriptions like size, colors seen, habitat and region, ranked by how well each bird fits (identify_by_features); listings by region — North America, India, Brazil, or species widespread across all three (birds_by_region) — and by habitat type (birds_by_habitat); hand-authored look-alike pairs and their distinguishing features, like American Crow vs. Common Raven or Downy vs. Hairy Woodpecker (similar_species); a standalone call/song lookup (birdsong_description); practical feeder, food, water and native-plant tips for attracting backyard birds, optionally focused on one region (attracting_guide); a glossary of common birding terms — field mark, molt, raptor, passerine, migratory vs. resident, brood parasite and more (birdwatching_glossary); and a random pick from the dataset for a "bird of the day" style prompt (random_bird).

The dataset spans 68 species: around 50 common North American backyard, urban and widely recognized birds (American Robin, Blue Jay, Northern Cardinal, Bald Eagle, hummingbirds, owls, woodpeckers and more), 10 common Indian birds (Indian Peafowl, Common Myna, Rose-ringed Parakeet, House Crow, Black Kite and others), and 9 common Brazilian birds (Rufous-bellied Thrush — Brazil's national bird — Toco Toucan, Great Kiskadee, Southern Lapwing and more), with a handful of species — House Sparrow, Rock Pigeon, European Starling, Barn Owl, Barn Swallow, Osprey, Burrowing Owl — tagged as widespread across regions.

What it is not

Not a photo-ID tool, a bird-song audio matcher, or a live sightings/range-map service. Flock is a hand-curated, field-guide-level reference verified against general ornithological knowledge as of its stated build date — a strong starting point for narrowing down "what bird is this," not a substitute for a photograph, a proper field guide, or a dedicated birding app with photo or sound recognition. Exact measurements and any conservation status are phrased conservatively and specific record-level claims are left out where they cannot be stated with confidence.

Tools

Identify

bird_info — Full profile for one bird: common and scientific name, size, key field marks, habitat, behavior, song/ call description, region(s), and a conservation note if notable. Use for "tell me about the Blue Jay". Args: name.

bird_search — Keyword search across bird name, field marks, habitat, colors and behavior. Use for "which birds have a red crest", "birds found near wetlands". Args: query.

identify_by_features — Given loose descriptive filters (approximate size, colors seen, habitat, region), returns the best- matching candidate birds ranked by how many filters they satisfy and how well colors overlap — real multi-field scoring against the structured dataset, not a single lookup. Use for "what bird is this: small yellow bird at a backyard feeder". Args: size, colors, habitat, region.

similar_species — Other birds in the dataset commonly confused with a given one, and the key distinguishing features between them (hand-authored per bird, where a well-known look-alike exists). Use for "how do I tell a crow from a raven". Args: name.

birdsong_description — The onomatopoeic/descriptive call and song description for a bird, standalone for convenience. Use for "what does a Northern Cardinal sound like". Args: name.

Browse

birds_by_region — Lists birds commonly found in a region: North America, India, Brazil, or Widespread (species common across all three). Use for "what birds might I see in my backyard in Brazil". Args: region.

birds_by_habitat — Lists birds commonly found in a given habitat type. Use for "what birds live in wetlands", "forest birds". Args: habitat.

random_bird — A random bird from the dataset — good for a "bird of the day" style prompt. Use for "give me a random bird", "bird of the day". Args: seed.

Reference

attracting_guide — Practical tips for attracting and supporting backyard birds — feeder types, food, water, native plants — general reference content, optionally focused on one region's common species. Use for "how do I attract birds to my yard", "how do I attract hummingbirds". Args: region.

birdwatching_glossary — Definitions of common birding terms (field mark, molt, raptor, passerine, migratory vs. resident, brood parasite, ...). Use for "what's a passerine", "what does migratory mean". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Flock — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Flock is. Flock is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated bird identification and reference guide: species profiles, feature-based candidate matching, region and habitat listings, look-alike comparisons, and a birding glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a bird name, a search keyword, a size/color/habitat/ region filter, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Flock is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Flock — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Flock connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Flock returns a hand-curated bird identification and reference guide — species profiles, feature-based candidate matching, region and habitat listings, look-alike comparisons, an attracting guide, and a birding glossary — from a dataset compiled from general ornithological knowledge at build time. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Not a photo-ID tool, and not a substitute for a field guide. Flock is an independent reference tool. It does not analyze photos or audio, does not provide live sightings or range-map data, and its output is a starting point for identification, not a confirmed diagnosis — verify anything important against a photograph, a proper field guide, or a dedicated birding app.
  3. Facts change slowly but not never. Species ranges, common names, and conservation status can shift over time; the Service reflects general knowledge as of the build date stated in its own data.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
