About

Furlong is a hand-curated, fully local horse racing terminology and reference connector, distinct from the general-equestrian `saddle` connector. distance_unit_converter converts exactly between furlongs, miles and meters (1 furlong = 1/8 mile = 660 feet = 201.168 meters) and lists common race distances. triple_crown_race_info covers the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes — distance, traditional date, track, and current venue status, including the Preakness's 2026 relocation to Laurel Park and the Belmont's 2024-2026 relocation to Saratoga Race Course while their traditional homes are rebuilt. race_type_info explains maiden, claiming, allowance and stakes races. racing_terminology_guide covers post position, photo finish, furlong pole, silks, paddock, morning line, scratch and more. betting_terminology_reference explains win/place/show, exacta/trifecta/superfecta, odds, pari-mutuel wagering, handle and favorite/longshot strictly as vocabulary, with an explicit not-advice disclaimer and a problem-gambling helpline on every response — never odds calculations or wager recommendations. track_surface_info covers dirt, turf and synthetic (Tapeta/Polytrack) surfaces. racing_silks_tradition_info gives a factual note on the jockey-silks tradition. horse_age_and_class_terminology_guide covers racing-specific age/class terms including the universal January 1st Thoroughbred birthday convention. racing_glossary defines about a dozen core terms. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls.

Sources: Hand-curated from public racing-authority, track, and encyclopedic reference sources (including Wikipedia and Jockey Club material) as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Furlong is for

The question that comes up around any Triple Crown weekend or racing-form mention — how far is a furlong, what track is the Derby actually run at, what does "maiden claiming" mean, is win/place/show the same as exacta — answered from one hand-curated, verified reference on the sport and industry of horse racing.

Furlong is deliberately scoped to racing itself, not general horsemanship. For horse breeds, riding disciplines, tack, and everyday care, see the companion saddle connector, which this one cross-references rather than duplicating.

What it does

Exact distance conversion between furlongs, miles, and meters using the modern definition (1 furlong = 1/8 mile = 660 feet = 201.168 meters), plus a list of common race distances (distance_unit_converter); the three US Triple Crown races — Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes — with distance, traditional date, track, and current venue status, including the Preakness's 2026 relocation to Laurel Park and the Belmont's 2024-2026 relocation to Saratoga Race Course at a shortened distance while their traditional homes are rebuilt (triple_crown_race_info); race-class explainers for maiden, claiming, allowance, and stakes races (race_type_info); general racing terminology — post position, photo finish, furlong pole, silks, paddock, morning line, scratch, and more (racing_terminology_guide); a betting-terminology reference explaining win/place/show, exacta/trifecta/superfecta, odds, pari-mutuel wagering, handle, and favorite/longshot strictly as vocabulary, with an explicit not-advice disclaimer and a problem-gambling helpline on every response (betting_terminology_reference); track surface types — dirt, turf, and synthetic surfaces like Tapeta and Polytrack — and their characteristics (track_surface_info); a factual note on the jockey-silks/racing-colors tradition (racing_silks_tradition_info); racing-specific age and class terminology, including the universal January 1st (August 1st in the Southern Hemisphere) Thoroughbred birthday convention (horse_age_and_class_terminology_guide); and a short core glossary (racing_glossary).

What it is not

Not gambling advice, an odds calculator, or a recommendation to wager. betting_terminology_reference explains what betting terms mean — nothing more. It never calculates odds, suggests a bet, or encourages wagering, and every response carries an explicit disclaimer plus a problem-gambling helpline. Wagering on horse racing involves real financial risk and is regulated differently across jurisdictions.

Not a live odds feed, entries service, or results ticker — Furlong is a hand-curated reference verified against public reporting as of the build date stated in its own data. It won't tell you today's odds, who's entered in this weekend's card, or who won yesterday's race. For live odds, entries, or results, use a licensed operator or an official racing-authority source. For general equestrian breeds, disciplines, tack and horsemanship rather than the sport of racing, see the saddle connector.

Tools

Distance & Triple Crown

distance_unit_converter — Converts a racing distance between furlongs, miles and meters, using the exact modern definition (1 furlong = 1/8 mile = 660 feet = 220 yards = 201.168 meters). Provide exactly one of furlongs/miles/meters; the other units are returned. Also lists common race distances for reference. Use for "how many meters is a furlong", "convert 6 furlongs to miles", "what's 1.25 miles in furlongs". Args: furlongs, miles, meters.

triple_crown_race_info — One US Triple Crown race's distance, traditional date, track, and CURRENT venue status — including the Preakness Stakes' 2026 relocation to Laurel Park (Pimlico under reconstruction) and the Belmont Stakes' 2024-2026 relocation to Saratoga Race Course at a shortened distance (Belmont Park under reconstruction), both expected to return to their traditional homes in 2027. Omit race_name to list all three races and the Triple Crown overview. Use for "what track is the Kentucky Derby at", "where is the Preakness run this year", "how long is the Belmont Stakes". Args: race_name.

Racing terms

race_type_info — Explains a race class/type — maiden, claiming, allowance, or stakes — including how each fits into the overall class structure of a racing card. Use for "what's a maiden race", "what does claiming mean in horse racing", "what's the difference between allowance and stakes races". Args: type.

racing_terminology_guide — General horse racing terminology — post position, photo finish, furlong pole, silks, paddock, route vs. sprint, morning line, scratch, fractions/splits, backstretch, homestretch. Use for "what does post position mean", "what's a photo finish", "what is the furlong pole". Args: term.

racing_glossary — A short core glossary of horse racing terms (furlong, maiden, stakes race, claiming race, post position, photo finish, silks, win/place/show, exacta, trifecta, dirt, turf, Triple Crown, furlong pole). Use for "what does maiden mean in horse racing", "what is the Triple Crown". Args: term.

Betting reference

betting_terminology_reference — Explains racetrack wagering VOCABULARY only — win/place/show, across the board, exacta/trifecta/ superfecta, odds, pari-mutuel wagering, handle, favorite/longshot. This is a terminology reference, not betting advice, a recommendation to wager, an odds calculator, or gambling encouragement — it never calculates odds or suggests a bet. Every response carries an explicit not-advice disclaimer with a problem-gambling helpline. Use for "what does exacta mean", "what's the difference between win place and show", "what is a trifecta". Args: term.

Track & tradition

track_surface_info — Describes a racing surface type — dirt, turf, or synthetic (e.g. Tapeta, Polytrack) — and its typical characteristics. Use for "what's the difference between dirt and turf racing", "what is Tapeta", "what surface is synthetic racing". Args: surface.

racing_silks_tradition_info — A general factual note on the jockey-silks (racing colors) tradition — its origin, purpose, and modern-day registration practice. Use for "why do jockeys wear bright colors", "what are racing silks", "are racing colors registered to an owner".

horse_age_and_class_terminology_guide — Racing-specific age and class terminology — 2-year-old, 3-year-old, older/aged horse, and the universal January 1st (August 1st in the Southern Hemisphere) Thoroughbred birthday convention used for racing-age purposes — plus class terms (claiming/allowance/stakes class, black type). Distinct from saddle's general equestrian age terms (foal, yearling, colt, filly), which describe the same life stages without this racing-specific convention. Use for "why do all racehorses turn a year older on January 1st", "what is a 3-year-old in horse racing", "what does black type mean".

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Furlong — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Furlong is. Furlong is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated horse racing terminology and reference: distance conversions, the US Triple Crown races, race-class and racing terminology, a betting-terminology reference (educational only, never advice), track surfaces, silks tradition, and racing age/class conventions. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a distance value and unit, a race name, a race type, a terminology or betting term, or a track surface — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

No wagering data of any kind. Furlong does not place bets, connect to any wagering platform or account, or accept any information about your own gambling activity. betting_terminology_reference only explains what terms mean; it takes no bet amount, account, or personal wagering information as input, and none could be stored even if included in a request by mistake.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Furlong is a general-audience reference service operated by the adult using the assistant. It does not facilitate wagering and is not a gambling service.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Furlong — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Furlong connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Furlong returns a hand-curated horse racing terminology and reference — distance conversions, the US Triple Crown races, race-class and racing terminology, a betting-terminology reference, track surfaces, silks tradition, and racing age/class conventions — from data verified against public reporting at build time. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Not gambling advice and not a wagering service. The Service does not place bets, connect to any sportsbook or wagering account, calculate odds, or recommend any wager. betting_terminology_reference explains vocabulary only. Nothing in the Service should be relied on for a wagering decision. Wagering on horse racing involves real financial risk and is subject to the laws of your jurisdiction; the Service is not a substitute for, and does not provide, professional gambling, financial, or legal advice. If betting is a concern for you or someone you know, contact a resource such as the National Council on Problem Gambling (1-800-522-4700 in the US).
  3. Not a live odds feed, and not official. Furlong is an independent reference tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by Churchill Downs, the Maryland Jockey Club, the New York Racing Association, any track, racing authority, or sanctioning body. It does not provide live odds, entries, or results.
  4. Facts change. Distances, venues, dates, and terminology reflect public reporting as of the build date stated in the Service's own data — including temporary venue relocations affecting the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes in the mid-2020s. Always check an official source (the track, the relevant racing authority, or a licensed operator) for anything time-sensitive.
  5. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  6. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  7. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  8. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  9. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service, including any loss connected to a wagering decision. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  10. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
