What Holdem is for

A hand-curated poker variant rules reference — Hold'em, Omaha, Stud, Draw, Razz and Short Deck.

What it does

Holdem is a fully local, hand-curated poker variant RULES reference. variant_rules gives one variant's full detail: deck, player count, hole/community cards, exact hand-composition rule, hand-ranking system, and special rules. deal_procedure lays out the exact ordered dealing procedure from the first forced bet through showdown. betting_round_explainer names and explains just the betting-round structure (pre-flop/flop/turn/river, third-through-seventh street, or pre-draw/draw/post-draw), generically. hand_ranking_reference explains the standard high ranking, ace-to-five low, the eight-or-better hi-lo qualifier, or the short-deck ranking. term_glossary defines shared poker terms. variant_comparison lines up two variants side by side. find_variant_by_feature finds variants by a structural feature like hi-lo split or no community cards. history_note gives a brief origin note. responsible_play_note returns the play-responsibly reminder on its own. Rules only — never betting odds, EV/strategy, or bankroll advice. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

What it is not

Not an official product of, or affiliated with, any brand, league, publisher, or organization it may factually mention. Holdem is a hand-curated reference and design tool, not a substitute for an official rulebook, certified instruction, or professional advice. Fully local, zero upstream calls, nothing stored.

Tools

Look Up a Variant

variant_rules — Full detail for one poker variant: family, deck, typical player count, how many hole cards each player gets and how many community cards (if any), the exact hand-composition rule, which hand-ranking system(s) it uses, forced bets, and any special rules unique to it. Use for "how do you play Omaha", "what are the rules of Razz", "how is Short Deck Hold'em different". Args: name.

deal_procedure — The exact ordered dealing procedure for one variant — forced bets, the order cards are dealt face-down versus face-up, where each betting round falls, and how showdown works — from the first forced bet through showdown. Use for "walk me through how a hand of Hold'em is dealt", "what's the exact order of play in Seven-Card Stud", "how does the draw work in Five-Card Draw". Args: variant.

betting_round_explainer — Names and explains just the betting-round structure for one variant, generically: pre-flop/flop/ turn/river in community-card games, third-through-seventh street in Stud/Razz (and how the opening action is decided each street), or pre-draw/the draw/post-draw in Five-Card Draw. No strategy — structure only. Use for "what are the betting rounds in Hold'em called", "how many streets does Stud have", "what happens between the two betting rounds in Five-Card Draw". Args: variant.

history_note — A brief, qualitative note on one variant's origin and how it rose to its current place in poker, phrased carefully where the historical record is genuinely uncertain. Use for "where did Texas Hold'em come from", "how old is Seven-Card Stud", "when did Short Deck Hold'em become popular". Args: variant.

Rankings & Terms

hand_ranking_reference — Explains one of the four hand-ranking systems used across these variants — the standard high ranking (royal flush down to high card), ace-to-five low (used in Razz: aces low, straights/flushes ignored, pairs are bad), the eight-or-better low qualifier (used in Omaha Hi-Lo), or the short-deck high ranking (flush above full house) — or lists all four with which variants use each when no system is named. Use for "what beats what in poker", "how does ace-to-five low ranking work", "what's the eight-or-better qualifier", "why does a flush beat a full house in short deck". Args: system.

term_glossary — Definitions of common poker terms shared across these variants — blind, ante, bring-in, up card, the nuts, kicker, wheel, broadway, hi-lo split, qualifier, scoop, quartered, stand pat, rake, and more — or lists every term in the glossary when none is given. Use for "what's a bring-in", "what does 'quartered' mean", "what's the difference between a scoop and being quartered". Args: term.

Browse & Compare

variant_comparison — Lines up two named poker variants side by side — family, deck, player count, hole/community cards, hand-composition rule, hand-ranking system(s), and forced-bet structure — and highlights exactly which fields differ between them. Use for "compare Texas Hold'em and Omaha", "how is Razz different from Seven-Card Stud", "what's different between Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo". Args: a, b.

find_variant_by_feature — Finds variants matching a stated structural feature — hi-lo split, shared community cards, no community cards, a draw/discard mechanic, a short deck, a bring-in, antes versus blinds, and more. Use for "which variants have a hi-lo split", "what poker games don't use community cards", "which variant uses a 36-card deck". Args: feature.

Play Responsibly

responsible_play_note — This reference's play-responsibly note, on its own: a reminder that this is a rules reference, not gambling advice, and that poker is most often played for real money. Use for "is this gambling advice", "give me a responsible-play disclaimer for poker".

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Holdem — Privacy Policy

Effective 25 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Holdem is. Holdem is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated poker variant rules reference — Hold'em, Omaha, Stud, Draw, Razz and Short Deck. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call, the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Holdem is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

  3. Content varies. Rules, terminology and conventions described here reflect commonly-cited general practice; local house rules, regional variants, and official governing-body rulebooks may differ.
