About

Jester is a clean, family-friendly joke and pun generator. random_joke returns a random joke, optionally filtered by category (dad-joke, pun, knock-knock, programmer, animal, food, work, general) — dad jokes are fetched live from icanhazdadjoke.com when available, everything else from a bundled 170+ entry dataset, and every response says which. joke_search does a keyword search across the bundled dataset. category_list shows every category with its count. pun_generator returns a hand-written pun or two for a curated topic (food, animals, work, weather, tech), and says so honestly when a topic isn't covered instead of inventing one. knock_knock optionally themes around a name if one in the bundled set fits. joke_of_the_day is the same pick all day, seeded deterministically by today's date. dad_joke is dad jokes specifically, live with a bundled fallback. programmer_joke draws from a hand-curated set of 20+ tech jokes. rate_joke_style is a lighthearted, best-effort guess at whether a piece of text structurally looks like a pun, knock-knock joke, or one-liner. Keyless; nothing stored; every joke names its real source.

What Jester is for

A quick, clean joke on demand — a dad joke to open a meeting, a knock-knock joke for a kid, a programmer joke for a standup, or a themed pun to drop into a chat — without worrying it'll be off-color or land badly.

What it does

Fetches dad jokes live from icanhazdadjoke.com (a well-established, keyless public dad-joke API) and layers a bundled, hand-written dataset of 170+ jokes and puns across eight categories (dad-joke, pun, knock-knock, programmer, animal, food, work, general) on top, so every tool keeps answering even if the live source is slow or down: random_joke picks one, optionally by category; dad_joke is dad jokes specifically; joke_search finds a bundled joke by keyword; category_list shows what's available and how much; pun_generator returns a hand- written pun or two for a curated topic (food, animals, work, weather, tech), and says so honestly instead of inventing one when a topic isn't covered; knock_knock optionally themes around a name if one in the bundled set fits; joke_of_the_day is the same pick all day, chosen deterministically from today's date; programmer_joke draws from a hand-curated set of 20+ tech jokes; and rate_joke_style is a lighthearted, best-effort guess at whether a piece of text structurally looks like a pun, a knock-knock joke, or a one-liner.

Every joke result names its actual source — a specific API name, or "bundled" — so nothing is ever presented as live when it came from the fallback dataset.

What it is not

Not a comedy-writing tool and not a large joke archive — the bundled set is intentionally curated (170+ entries) rather than exhaustive, and pun_generator covers a handful of topics on purpose rather than trying to pun about anything. rate_joke_style is playful pattern matching on structure (does it open "knock knock", does it ask a riddle question, is it a short one-liner), not a real classifier or a judgment of whether something is actually funny. Everything in the bundled dataset was written to be clean and family-friendly — no off-color material, no humor that punches down at any group.

Tools

Random & search

random_joke — A random joke, optionally filtered by category. Dad jokes are pulled live from icanhazdadjoke.com when it answers; every other category (and dad jokes when the live source is unavailable) comes from the bundled dataset. The result always names its source. Use for "tell me a joke", "give me an animal joke". Args: category.

joke_search — Keyword search across the bundled joke dataset (live sources don't support search). Use for "find me a joke about pizza", "search for cat jokes". Args: query.

category_list — Every joke category in the bundled dataset with its joke count. Use for "what kinds of jokes do you have".

Specific styles

dad_joke — A dad joke specifically — fetched live from icanhazdadjoke.com when it answers, else a bundled dad joke, always labeled. Use for "tell me a dad joke".

programmer_joke — A programming/tech joke from a hand-curated bundled set of 20+. Use for "tell me a programmer joke", "coding humor".

pun_generator — One or two hand-written puns for a curated topic (food, animals, work, weather, tech). If the topic isn't covered, says so honestly instead of fabricating a pun on the spot. Use for "give me a pun about food". Args: topic.

knock_knock — A knock-knock joke, themed around a given name/word if the bundled set has one that fits, else random. Use for "tell me a knock-knock joke", "knock-knock joke about a cow". Args: name_hint.

Fun extras

joke_of_the_day — Today's joke — the same pick all day, deterministically seeded by today's date from the bundled dataset. Use for "what's the joke of the day".

rate_joke_style — A lighthearted, best-effort guess at whether a piece of text structurally looks like a pun, a knock-knock joke, or a one-liner — simple pattern matching, framed as playful, not an authoritative classifier. Use for "what kind of joke is this". Args: joke_text.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Jester — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Jester is. Jester is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for clean, family-friendly jokes and puns. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one request.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a category name, a search keyword, a topic for the pun generator, a name hint, or a piece of text passed to the joke-style classifier — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Most jokes are served from our own bundled dataset and computed on our server; dad jokes may be fetched live from icanhazdadjoke.com. When random_joke or dad_joke is called, we send that one upstream request (no arguments, no query text, no identifying information) to icanhazdadjoke.com to fetch a random dad joke; if it doesn't answer, we fall back to our bundled dataset automatically. No other tool contacts any upstream service. Nothing is stored.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. icanhazdadjoke.com — the public dad-joke source queried live for dad_joke and random_joke(category="dad-joke") only; no other tool calls it. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Jester's content is written to be family-friendly, but the service itself is operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Jester — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Jester connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Jester returns clean, family-friendly jokes and puns — random jokes by category, keyword search over a bundled dataset, curated topic puns, knock-knock jokes, a joke of the day, dad jokes, programmer jokes, and a lighthearted joke-style guesser — sourced from a bundled hand-written dataset and, for dad jokes, from icanhazdadjoke.com's public feed. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Not affiliated with icanhazdadjoke.com. The Service is an independent, unofficial client of that public API for dad jokes only; every other tool uses our own bundled content.
  3. Content is curated, not exhaustive. The bundled dataset (170+ entries) and the pun generator's topic list are intentionally curated rather than comprehensive; the joke-style guesser is playful structural pattern matching, not a rigorous classifier or a judgment of whether something is funny.
  4. Family-friendly by design. Bundled content is written to avoid off-color material and humor that targets or demeans any group. We do not warrant that every possible input or combination is to every user's taste.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time, including if the icanhazdadjoke.com feed changes or becomes unavailable — Jester falls back to its bundled dataset automatically in that case.
  6. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  7. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: most requests are answered from our own bundled dataset or computed locally; dad-joke requests may also reach icanhazdadjoke.com; nothing is stored.
  8. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  9. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  10. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
