"Give me an A2 conversation starter", "what can a B1 learner actually do, per the CEFR scale?", "give me 5 conversation prompts for a C1 language exchange" — a fully local conversation-prompt generator for language exchange and self-study, calibrated to the six CEFR proficiency levels (A1 through C2).
list_levels lists the six CEFR levels with their typical grammar focus. cefr_reference gives the full
can-do quick-reference for one level, or all six — a paraphrase of the Council of Europe's own CEFR global
scale, not an invented substitute. topic_bank lets you browse the hand-authored prompt bank by level and/or
category (daily life, opinions, hypotheticals) without picking one. conversation_prompt returns a single
level-appropriate conversation starter, and practice_session bundles several prompts across mixed categories
into one practice set for a level.
Every prompt is hand-authored, not machine-translated or generated from a fill-in-the-blank template, and the complexity is deliberately scaled to match each level's real grammar range: A1 prompts use simple present-tense personal questions ("Do you like coffee or tea?"); A2 introduces simple past and "going to" future ("What did you do last weekend?"); B1 asks for connected narrative and simple reasons ("What's a hobby you've picked up in the last year, and why?"); B2 moves into structured argument with advantages and disadvantages; C1 uses nuanced hedging and implicit-assumption language; and C2 engages directly with abstraction, contested ideas, and fine distinctions of meaning.
Every conversation prompt in the topic bank is hand-authored for this connector. The CEFR can-do descriptors
in cefr_reference are honest paraphrases of the Council of Europe's published CEFR global scale of
proficiency levels — summarized, not invented or exaggerated.
This is a conversation-practice and reference tool, not a certified CEFR placement test. Use cefr_reference
as a quick-reference summary of what each level typically covers, not as a substitute for a formal proficiency
assessment.

What Langexchange is. Langexchange is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for CEFR-calibrated language-exchange conversation prompts and a CEFR quick-reference. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the values needed for that one response.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a CEFR level, an optional topic category, and how many prompts to return — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered locally and nothing is stored. Every conversation prompt and CEFR descriptor is read from a bundled, hand-authored reference file; only which prompt(s) to return is selected at request time. No request is forwarded to any third party, and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any other identifying information, and we do not build a learning profile from your queries — each call is answered independently.
Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — every tool is answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Langexchange is a general-audience language-learning reference operated through the adult or organization running the AI assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
