Translation between 100+ languages through MyMemory — machine translation as the primary answer, an exact reviewed translation-memory match when one exists, and public translation-memory hits as clearly labelled suggestions — with automatic source detection and a romanization of non-Latin results. Language detection combining a statistical model with Unicode script analysis and letter-level rules for shared scripts (Hindi/Marathi/Nepali, Arabic/Persian/ Urdu, Russian/Ukrainian/Serbian). Transliteration across nine Indic scripts and the IAST, ITRANS and Harvard-Kyoto schemes, Japanese to Hepburn romaji, and generic romanization of anything else. Numbers to words in 40+ languages (cardinal, ordinal, year, currency), Indian English lakh/crore, native Hindi words up to crores, Indian digit grouping. Facts for 68 major languages (native name, ISO codes, script, family, speakers, countries, direction), searchable by script or country. A 25-phrase travel phrasebook with pronunciation in twelve languages.
Not a professional translator: machine translation is fine for messages and travel, not for contracts or medical instructions. Detection needs a few words to be reliable. The language table covers major languages only, and the phrasebook is deliberately small — use translate for anything beyond the essentials.
translate — Translate text between 100+ languages, returning the translation (machine translation, or an exact reviewed memory match), translation-memory suggestions, and (for non-Latin scripts) a romanization to read it aloud. Use for "how do I say X in Hindi", "translate this to Japanese", "what does this Spanish sentence mean". Args: text, to, source, romanize_result.
detect_language — Identify a text's language (with probabilities and alternatives) and the scripts it uses; flags scripts shared by several languages. Use for "what language is this", "is this Hindi or Marathi", "which script is this". Args: text.
transliterate — Convert between Indic scripts and Latin transliteration schemes (e.g. Devanagari → Tamil, ITRANS-typed 'namaste' → Devanagari, Hindi → IAST), Japanese kana/kanji → Hepburn romaji, or anything → a rough Latin romanization. Use for "write namaste in Tamil script", "romanize this Hindi", "how is this kanji read". Args: text, to, source.
romanize — Latin-letter rendering of any script — Hepburn for Japanese, IAST for Indic scripts, generic Unidecode for the rest (Cyrillic, Greek, Hangul, Arabic, Chinese pinyin without tones). Use for "how do I pronounce this", "write this in English letters". Args: text.
number_to_words — Spell a number in words in the chosen language — cardinal, ordinal or year form, or as an amount of money — plus Indian English (lakh/crore) and Indian digit grouping for English, and native Devanagari words for Hindi. Use for "1,234,567 in words", "write 42nd in French", "₹12,50,000 in words for a cheque". Args: number, language, form, currency.
language_info — Facts about a language: native name, ISO codes, script, family, total and native speakers, main countries, writing direction — or the languages of a script or a country. Use for "how many people speak Telugu", "which languages use the Cyrillic script", "languages spoken in Nigeria". Args: language, script, country.
phrasebook — Essential travel phrases (greetings, thanks, help, directions, ordering, money) in the target language with a pronunciation guide — all 25 or just one. Use for "basic Japanese phrases", "how to say thank you in Tamil". Args: language, phrase.

What Lingo is. Lingo is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for language tasks: translation, language detection, transliteration and romanization, numbers to words, language facts and a phrasebook. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us the text to be processed and the languages involved.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call (the text, a number, language names), the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Text is processed, not stored. Detection, transliteration, romanization, numbers and reference lookups run entirely on our server in memory. Text sent to the translate tool is forwarded to MyMemory (Translated S.r.l.) to obtain a translation and is not stored by us; MyMemory may retain submitted segments in its public translation memory under its own terms — do not translate confidential text. Successful translations are cached in memory for up to 24 hours, keyed by the text and language pair, to avoid repeat calls.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, contacts or any account credentials. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. MyMemory / Translated S.r.l. (api.mymemory.translated.net) receives the text to translate, the language pair and our contact e-mail as an API identifier, with our server's IP address, never yours. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs and caches, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Lingo is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
