About

Loom is a fully local knitting/crochet reference and calculator toolkit. gauge_calculator compares your actual swatch to a pattern's stated gauge and returns the adjustment ratio, whether to size needles up or down, and the finished size you'll actually get. stitch_count_calculator and rows_to_length turn a target width or length and a gauge into a stitch or row count. yarn_yardage_estimator gives a rough total-yardage estimate for a project type and size across five yarn weights (lace, fingering, DK, worsted, bulky); yarn_substitution turns a pattern's total yardage into a skein count for a different yarn. needle_hook_size_convert converts knitting-needle or crochet-hook sizes between US, UK/Canadian and metric systems. stitch_abbreviation_lookup and abbreviation_search cover 50 standard knitting and crochet abbreviations. ease_guide gives standard ease ranges by garment type, and craft_glossary defines common terms. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream API calls.

Sources: Hand-curated from generic, long-published industry conventions (Craft Yarn Council-style yarn weight categories, standard needle/hook size charts) as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Loom is for

The math and lookups every knitter or crocheter reaches for mid-project — is my swatch actually the pattern's gauge, how much yarn should I buy, what's a US 8 needle in millimeters, how many stitches do I cast on, what does "ssk" mean — answered instantly, without leaving the conversation, from one hand-curated toolkit.

What it does

gauge_calculator takes your actual swatch measurement and the pattern's stated gauge and tells you the adjustment ratio, whether to size needles up or down (and roughly how far), and what your finished piece will actually measure if you proceed unchanged. stitch_count_calculator and rows_to_length turn a target width or length and a gauge into a stitch or row count. yarn_yardage_estimator gives a rough total-yardage estimate for a project type and size, scaled across the five yarn weights knitters shop by most (lace, fingering, DK, worsted, bulky); yarn_substitution turns a pattern's total yardage requirement into a skein count for a different yarn. needle_hook_size_convert converts knitting-needle or crochet-hook sizes between US, UK/Canadian (old), and metric systems. stitch_abbreviation_lookup and abbreviation_search cover 50 standard knitting and crochet abbreviations — k2tog, ssk, sc, dc, hdc, and more — each with a plain-language description of the technique. ease_guide gives standard ease ranges (close-fitting through oversized) by garment type, and craft_glossary defines common terms like gauge, blocking, frogging, WIP, and magic loop.

What it is not

Not a pattern database or a yarn-shop inventory, and not a substitute for a specific pattern's own stated gauge, yardage, or instructions — Loom's yardage estimates and ease ranges are planning rules of thumb, clearly presented as such, meant for shopping and swatching, not as a replacement for what a real pattern tells you. Everything is computed or looked up locally; there is no live yarn-shop pricing or stock data, and nothing about the user is stored.

Tools

Gauge & measurements

gauge_calculator — Compares your actual gauge swatch measurement to a pattern's stated gauge: computes your real stitches/rows per 4in, the scale-factor difference from the pattern, whether to size needles up or down (and roughly by how much), and — if you give the pattern's finished measurements — the size you'd actually get by proceeding unchanged. Use for "I'm getting 22 sts instead of the pattern's 20, what needle size should I try". Args: stitches_per_swatch, rows_per_swatch, swatch_width_in, swatch_height_in, pattern_stitches_per_4in, pattern_rows_per_4in, pattern_finished_width_in, pattern_finished_length_in.

stitch_count_calculator — How many stitches to cast on for a target width at a given stitch gauge. Use for "how many stitches do I cast on for a 20 inch wide scarf at 18 stitches per 4 inches". Args: target_width_in, gauge_stitches_per_4in.

rows_to_length — How many rows are needed for a target length at a given row gauge. Use for "how many rows for a 30 inch long scarf at 24 rows per 4 inches". Args: target_length_in, gauge_rows_per_4in.

Yarn

yarn_yardage_estimator — A rough total-yardage estimate (with a +/-15% range) for a project type and size, scaled for the chosen yarn weight category. A hand-curated planning table, not a specific pattern's stated yardage. Use for "how much yarn do I need for an adult sweater in worsted weight". Args: project_type, size, yarn_weight_category.

yarn_substitution — How many skeins of a substitute yarn are needed to match a pattern's total required yardage, plus how many skeins the pattern's original yarn works out to for comparison. Use for "the pattern calls for 1000 yards in 220-yard skeins, how many 364-yard skeins of my yarn do I need". Args: original_weight_category, original_yardage, original_yardage_per_skein, substitute_yardage_per_skein.

Sizing

needle_hook_size_convert — Converts a knitting-needle or crochet-hook size between US, UK/Canadian (old), and metric (mm) sizing systems, from a hand-curated standard conversion table. Use for "what's a US 8 knitting needle in mm", "what US crochet hook is 4mm". Args: size, from_system, to_system, tool_type.

ease_guide — Standard ease guidance (how much roomier or snugger than the body a garment should be) for close-fitting, classic, relaxed and oversized fits, by garment type. Use for "what ease should a cardigan have", "how much negative ease for socks". Args: garment_type.

Reference

stitch_abbreviation_lookup — Looks up a standard knitting or crochet stitch abbreviation: its full name and a plain-language description of the technique. Use for "what does k2tog mean", "what's ssk", "what is dc in crochet". Args: abbreviation, craft.

abbreviation_search — Searches stitch abbreviations by keyword across their abbreviation, full name and description. Use for "what stitches involve a decrease", "find crochet post stitches". Args: query, craft.

craft_glossary — Definitions of common knitting/crochet terms (gauge, ease, blocking, frogging, WIP, magic loop, join in the round, ...). Use for "what does frogging mean", "what's a WIP". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Loom — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Loom is. Loom is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a fully local knitting/crochet reference and calculator toolkit: gauge-swatch math, yarn yardage estimates, needle/hook size conversion, stitch and row calculators, yarn substitution, a stitch abbreviation dictionary, ease guidance, and a craft glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one calculation or lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — swatch measurements, a gauge, a project type and size, a yarn weight or yardage figure, a needle/hook size, an abbreviation, a garment type, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is computed or answered from bundled reference files and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset and every calculation live in the server itself. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Loom is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Loom — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Loom connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Loom is a fully local knitting/crochet reference and calculator toolkit — gauge-swatch math, yarn yardage estimates, needle/hook size conversion, stitch and row calculators, yarn substitution, a stitch abbreviation dictionary, ease guidance, and a craft glossary — computed or looked up from data bundled with the server. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Planning estimates, not a specific pattern. Yardage estimates, ease ranges, and needle-size suggestions are hand-curated rules of thumb for shopping and swatching. They are not a substitute for a specific pattern's own stated gauge, yardage, or instructions, which always take precedence.
  3. Not official, not a retailer. Loom is an independent reference and calculator tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any yarn brand, needle or hook manufacturer, or pattern designer, and it does not sell yarn, check stock, or process payments.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from bundled reference data or plain arithmetic, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service, including a project that comes out the wrong size or uses more or less yarn than estimated. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
