About

Scam Spot is a fully local, hand-curated, general educational reference on common tourist-scam patterns. scam_pattern_info gives one pattern's full detail: how it works, tell-tale signs, what to do, a short response script, and severity. scam_search does a keyword search. scams_by_category lists every pattern in one of seven categories (Distraction & Theft, Overcharging & Fake Fees, Fake Guides & Services, Counterfeit & Bait-and-Switch, Authority Impersonation, Card & Digital Scams, Online & Booking Scams); category_list shows them all with counts. scams_by_setting lists patterns common to a setting — airports, taxis/rideshare, markets, landmarks, nightlife, online booking, or ATMs/currency exchange. red_flag_checklist gives the general precursor signs that cut across almost every pattern: urgency, isolation, unverifiable authority, hidden pricing, off-platform payment. response_script gives just the short thing to say or do. tactics_glossary defines general tactics like distraction, anchoring, and bait-and-switch. reporting_guidance covers what to do afterward. risk_awareness_score combines a few situational yes/no flags into a rough composite score. Every pattern here is documented across many destinations worldwide — Scam Spot never names or shames a specific country or culture. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

Sources: Hand-curated from widely-documented tourist-scam patterns reported across many destinations worldwide, organized by scam type rather than by country to avoid naming or shaming any specific place. Fully local; zero upstream calls.

What Scam Spot is for

"How does the fake tour guide scam work?", "what are the signs of ATM skimming?", "what do I say if someone claims to be police and wants my wallet?" — a general, educational reference on common tourist-scam PATTERNS, organized by scam type and setting, so you recognize the mechanics wherever you encounter them rather than only in one place.

What it does

scam_pattern_info gives one pattern's full detail — how it works, tell-tale signs, what to do, a short response script, and severity — for 16+ documented patterns spanning distraction theft, overcharging, fake guides, counterfeit tickets, authority impersonation, card/digital scams, and online booking scams. scam_search searches by keyword; scams_by_category lists every pattern in one of seven categories (category_list shows them all with counts). scams_by_setting lists patterns common to a setting — airports, taxis, markets, landmarks, nightlife, online booking, or ATMs. red_flag_checklist gives the general precursor signs that cut across almost every pattern. response_script gives just the short thing to say or do for a named pattern. tactics_glossary defines general tactics like distraction, anchoring, and bait-and-switch. reporting_guidance covers what to do afterward. risk_awareness_score combines a few situational yes/no flags into a rough composite score.

What it is not

Scam Spot never names or shames a specific country, city, vendor, or person — every pattern here has been documented across many different destinations worldwide, and describing a pattern is not an accusation about any real, specific situation. It's an educational reference to help you recognize mechanics, not a verdict generator or a substitute for your own judgment.

Privacy policy

Scam Spot — Privacy Policy

Effective 26 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Scam Spot is. Scam Spot is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated, fully local travel-scam-awareness reference — pattern lookups, category and setting browsing, red-flag checklists, response scripts, a tactics glossary, reporting guidance, and a risk-awareness scorer. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a scam pattern name, a search keyword, a category, a setting, a glossary term, or a handful of yes/no situational flags for the risk-awareness score — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or details of any real incident you describe elsewhere, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Scam Spot is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Scam Spot — Terms of Service

Effective 26 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Scam Spot connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Scam Spot returns a hand-curated, fully local, general educational reference on common tourist-scam patterns — how they work, tell-tale signs, response scripts, a tactics glossary, reporting guidance, and a rough risk-awareness score. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General education, not an accusation or verdict. Scam Spot describes documented scam mechanics for general awareness. It never identifies or accuses any specific real person, vendor, business, or country, and the risk_awareness_score tool is a rough, self-reported composite for general awareness, not a determination that any real situation is or is not a scam.
  3. Reference, not real-time guidance. Content reflects general, widely-documented scam patterns as of the build date stated in the Service's own data. It cannot assess a specific real-world situation and is not a substitute for your own judgment, local authorities, or your bank/platform's fraud team.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the Service, including any financial loss from a scam encountered while traveling. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
