About

SmartHomeGlossary is a fully local, brand-neutral smart-home protocol reference — general technical reference only, never a recommendation for any specific product or brand. protocol_comparison gives a real technical comparison of Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, and Thread: frequency band, mesh vs. star topology, typical per-hop range, power consumption, maximum devices per network, hub/bridge requirements, interoperability (including Matter's cross-ecosystem multi-admin feature), introduction year, governing body, and best-fit use case. device_compatibility_guide explains hub requirements, bridge devices, what Matter over Thread means and why it needs a Thread Border Router, ecosystem/platform lock-in, and how to check compatibility before buying. smarthome_glossary defines core terms: hub, bridge, mesh network, coordinator, controller, Thread Border Router, fabric, multi-admin, commissioning, scene, automation/automation trigger, end device, mesh router, interoperability, and PAN. Every response carries a disclaimer field. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

Sources: Computed locally / hand-curated, using published general protocol specifications and standards-body documentation (Connectivity Standards Alliance, Z-Wave Alliance, Thread Group); fully local, zero upstream calls

Brand-neutral general technical reference — not a product recommendation

SmartHomeGlossary is a Zigbee/Z-Wave/Matter/Thread protocol reference for learning and general technical understanding. It is never a recommendation for any specific product or brand, and never a guarantee of compatibility for a particular device. It describes protocols, standards, and concepts only — no specific commercial product, device, or company is ever named or endorsed. Every tool response carries a disclaimer field restating this.

What SmartHomeGlossary is for

The questions that come up before buying or setting up smart-home devices — what's actually different between Zigbee and Z-Wave, whether you need a hub, what "Matter over Thread" even means, what a scene is versus an automation — answered with accurate technical reference and no upstream calls or data about the user stored.

What it does

protocol_comparison gives a real technical comparison of Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, and Thread — frequency band, mesh vs. star topology, typical per-hop range, power consumption, maximum devices per network, hub/ bridge requirements, interoperability (including Matter's cross-ecosystem multi-admin feature), introduction year, governing body, and best-fit use case. device_compatibility_guide explains the concepts that come up when mixing devices: hub requirements, bridge devices, what "Matter over Thread" means and why it needs a Thread Border Router, ecosystem/platform lock-in, and how to check compatibility before buying. smarthome_glossary defines core terms: hub, bridge, mesh network, coordinator, controller, Thread Border Router, fabric, multi-admin, commissioning, scene, automation/automation trigger, end device, mesh router, interoperability, and PAN.

What it is not

Not a shopping guide and not a compatibility database for any specific device. It does not know which exact products support which protocols, current firmware behavior, or any single manufacturer's current certification status — the smart-home ecosystem changes quickly. Always check a specific device's current documentation and certification (and, for Matter, its listed certified transports) before buying or pairing it, rather than relying solely on general protocol-level reference like this.

SmartHomeGlossary — Privacy Policy

Effective 28 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What SmartHomeGlossary is. SmartHomeGlossary is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a brand-neutral Zigbee/Z-Wave/Matter/Thread protocol reference, a device-compatibility concept guide, and a glossary. SmartHomeGlossary is general technical reference only and is never a product recommendation. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — for example a list of protocol names, a compatibility topic, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered locally and nothing is stored. SmartHomeGlossary makes zero upstream/network calls: every response is drawn from bundled, hand-curated reference data. No request is forwarded to any third party, and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. We do not know which devices you own or are considering. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire reference dataset is bundled with the server and served locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. SmartHomeGlossary is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

SmartHomeGlossary — Terms of Service

Effective 28 September 2026. These terms govern use of the SmartHomeGlossary connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. SmartHomeGlossary returns a brand-neutral smart-home protocol comparison, device- compatibility concept explanations, and glossary definitions from hand-curated reference data. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General technical reference only — not a product recommendation. SmartHomeGlossary is not a retailer, a certification body, or a compatibility database for any specific device. Nothing the Service returns is a guarantee that any particular device will work with any particular hub, ecosystem, or other device. The smart-home ecosystem changes quickly (firmware, new certifications, evolving standard versions); always confirm compatibility with a specific device's current documentation before purchase or use.
  3. No liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from or related to any purchase or compatibility decision made in reliance on the Service. Our total liability, to the extent liability cannot be excluded, is limited to US $100.
  4. General figures. Technical figures (frequency bands, range, power consumption, node limits) reflect commonly-documented specifications of the relevant standards as of the Service's own reference data; actual real-world performance varies by device, environment, and firmware.
  5. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  6. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  7. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from bundled reference data, and nothing is stored.
  8. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
