Real specs for cable and connector types — HDMI, DisplayPort, optical (TOSLINK) and coaxial digital audio,
USB-C, and speaker wire — their connectors, typical uses, and bandwidth (cable_type_info); the exact
bandwidth, resolution ceiling and key features (ARC, eARC, VRR, ALLM, HDR) of every HDMI version from 1.0
through 2.2 (hdmi_version_reference); a speaker-wire-gauge calculator that recommends an AWG for a given
run length and power, using the standard 5%-of-impedance guideline for both 4-ohm and 8-ohm speakers
(speaker_wire_gauge_guide); exact pixel dimensions for every standard resolution from 720p through 8K UHD,
including the cinema-vs-consumer 4K distinction (resolution_reference); an aspect-ratio calculator that
simplifies any pixel width/height to a reduced ratio and names it if it matches a known standard
(aspect_ratio_calculator); a plain-language explainer for audio formats — Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby
Digital, DTS, TrueHD, stereo, 5.1, 7.1 — including whether each is object-based or channel-based
(audio_format_info); room-acoustic-treatment basics like absorption vs. diffusion, first reflection
points, bass traps and room modes (room_acoustics_guide); step-by-step troubleshooting for the most common
A/V problems — no signal, lip-sync delay, HDMI handshake/HDCP errors, no audio, dropouts, ARC/eARC issues
(troubleshooting_guide); and a glossary of common A/V terms and abbreviations (av_glossary).
Not a live pricing or product-availability service, a cable retailer, or a substitute for a licensed electrician on in-wall wiring runs subject to local code. Static is a hand-curated technical reference, cross-checked against HDMI Forum, VESA (DisplayPort) and standard audio-engineering sources as of the build date stated in its own data (every tool response carries that date). HDMI/DisplayPort bandwidth figures and resolution standards are stable, well-documented facts, but always check a cable's own certification label or a device's actual spec sheet before a purchase that depends on it.
cable_type_info — A real cable/connector type's connector shape, typical uses, bandwidth and notes — HDMI, DisplayPort, optical (TOSLINK) or coaxial digital audio, USB-C, or speaker wire. Use for "what is HDMI ARC", "what's the difference between optical and coax audio", "what can USB-C carry". Args: name.
hdmi_version_reference — Real HDMI version-to-bandwidth mapping: exact Gbit/s bandwidth, max resolution/refresh rate, and key features (ARC/eARC, VRR, ALLM, HDR, cable certification) for one HDMI version or the full history from 1.0 through 2.2. Use for "what's the bandwidth of HDMI 2.1", "does HDMI 1.4 support 4K", "what added eARC". Args: version.
speaker_wire_gauge_guide — Recommends a speaker wire gauge (AWG) for a given one-way run length, using the standard audio-engineering guideline of keeping wire resistance under about 5% of the speaker's rated impedance — given for both common 8-ohm and 4-ohm speaker loads, plus the full reference table. Use for "what gauge speaker wire for 50 feet", "do I need thicker wire for my subwoofer run". Args: distance_ft, power_watts.
aspect_ratio_calculator — Simplifies a pixel width x height to a reduced integer aspect ratio (e.g. 1920x1080 -> 16:9), the decimal ratio, total pixels, and the closest well-known named ratio if any. Use for "what ratio is 2560x1080", "is 3840x1600 21:9". Args: width, height.
resolution_reference — Exact pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and total pixel count for a named video resolution — 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K UHD, DCI 4K (cinema), or 8K UHD — or the full list. Use for "what resolution is 4K", "how many pixels is 1080p", "what's the difference between 4K UHD and DCI 4K". Args: name.
audio_format_info — Explains a home-theater audio format — whether it's channel-based (fixed channel count like 5.1/7.1) or object-based (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X), its channel layout, and whether it's lossy or lossless. Use for "what's the difference between Dolby Atmos and 5.1", "is DTS:X the same as Dolby Atmos", "what is 7.1 surround". Args: name.
room_acoustics_guide — General home-theater room acoustic treatment basics: absorption vs. diffusion, first reflection points, bass traps, room modes/standing waves, and speaker/listening-position placement. Use for "how do I treat my home theater room", "what's a first reflection point", "why is my bass boomy in one spot". Args: topic.
troubleshooting_guide — Step-by-step general troubleshooting for a specific A/V problem: no signal, lip-sync/audio-delay, HDMI handshake/HDCP errors, no audio, intermittent picture/sound dropouts, or ARC/eARC not working. Use for "my TV says no signal", "how do I fix audio out of sync", "why does my screen flash black". Args: issue.
av_glossary — Definitions of common A/V terms and abbreviations (HDCP, ARC, eARC, refresh rate, chroma subsampling, HDR, CEC, VRR, ALLM, upscaling, bitstream vs. PCM, damping factor, overscan, frame rate, dynamic range). Use for "what does HDCP mean", "what's chroma subsampling", "what's the difference between bitstream and PCM". Args: term.
ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.agent@connectorbay.com · connectorbay.com/static/support

What Static is. Static is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a home audio/video and electronics reference and calculator: cable/connector specs, an HDMI version-to-bandwidth reference, a speaker-wire-gauge calculator, resolution/aspect-ratio reference, an audio-format reference, room acoustics basics, and A/V troubleshooting guides. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup or calculation.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a cable or format name, an HDMI version, a resolution name, numbers for a wire-gauge or aspect-ratio calculation, an acoustics topic or a troubleshooting issue — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Static is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
