About

Tamil Phrases is a fully local, hand-curated everyday Tamil phrasebook. phrase_search searches by keyword across the Tamil text, romanization and English meaning. phrases_by_category lists every phrase in one of nine categories (greetings, courtesy, family, food, directions, shopping, time, emergencies, numbers), and categories_list shows them all with counts. greeting_for_context suggests the right greeting for a time of day and formality level. phrase_of_the_day returns a featured phrase that rotates daily. family_terms lists Tamil kinship words (appa, amma, anna, akka, thambi, thangai, and more). pronunciation_guide explains Tamil sounds that don't map simply onto English letters — the retroflex zh, the two r sounds, the three nasal n sounds, vowel length, and the absence of separate aspirated/voiced consonant letters. Every phrase is verified against a real published source. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

Sources: Hand-curated and verified against omniglot.com's Tamil phrases page and published Tamil kinship/food/direction/shopping/time vocabulary references as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Tamil Phrases is for

The moment you need to actually say something in Tamil — greet someone at the right time of day, thank a host, ask a price, name a family member, or just get the pronunciation right — answered from one hand-curated, respectful phrasebook instead of a guessed translation.

What it does

87 verified everyday Tamil phrases and words, each given in real Tamil script, a simple practical romanization, and an English translation, across nine categories: greetings, courtesy, family, food, directions, shopping, time, emergencies, and a small 1-10 numbers list (phrase_search, phrases_by_category, categories_list); a tool that suggests the right greeting for a time of day and formality level (greeting_for_context); a featured phrase that rotates daily (phrase_of_the_day); a dedicated list of Tamil kinship terms — appa, amma, anna, akka, thambi, thangai, thatha, paati, maama, athai and more (family_terms); and a pronunciation guide to Tamil sounds that don't map simply onto English letters — the retroflex 'zh', the two 'r' sounds, the three nasal 'n' sounds, vowel length, and the fact that Tamil script has no separate letters for aspirated or voiced consonants (pronunciation_guide).

What it is not

Not a machine translation and not a guess: every phrase here is verified against a real published source — principally omniglot.com's Tamil phrases page, plus published Tamil kinship, food, direction, shopping and time vocabulary references (see each entry's source field). Phrases favor well-documented, broadly recognized standard/formal Tamil over any one regional colloquial variety, and the numbers here stop at ten on purpose — deeper numeral coverage (11+, ordinals, place values like lakh and crore) belongs to a separate pan-India numbers connector, not duplicated here. Tamil is spoken by people of many faiths and regions — across Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and a global diaspora — and this phrasebook is not tied to one community. Fully local, zero upstream calls, nothing stored.

Tools

Use for "how do you pronounce zh in Tamil", "why does Tamil only have one letter for k and g".

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Tamil Phrases — Privacy Policy

Effective 25 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Tamil Phrases is. Tamil Phrases is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated everyday Tamil phrasebook: phrases, categories, family terms, and a pronunciation guide. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a phrase, a keyword, a category name, a time of day, or a formality flag — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Tamil Phrases is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Tamil Phrases — Terms of Service

Effective 25 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Tamil Phrases connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Tamil Phrases returns a hand-curated everyday Tamil phrasebook — greetings, courtesy, family terms, food, directions, shopping, time, emergencies and basic numbers, each in Tamil script, romanized and translated — from data curated and verified as of the build date stated in its own data. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. A reference, not a lesson or a claim of authority. Tamil Phrases is an independent reference tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any government, institution, or organization. It favors well-documented, broadly recognized standard Tamil over any one regional colloquial variety, and is not a substitute for learning from an actual Tamil speaker.
  3. Scope. Numeral coverage here is intentionally limited to 1-10; deeper numeral coverage belongs to a separate connector and is out of scope for this Service.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
