Thumbclick

Thumbclick is a fully local reference and analysis tool for thumbnail and title craft on video platforms (YouTube, TikTok, and similar). It is built around a simple idea: strong click-through comes from genuine visual and narrative craft, not manipulative tricks.

What it does

  • Effectiveness principles — 9 principles behind thumbnails that earn a click: contrast, faces and expression, subject isolation, text legibility, color and saturation, curiosity gap in the image itself, title-thumbnail complementarity, consistent branding, and specificity over vagueness. Each comes with why it matters and how to apply it.
  • Title patterns — 10 common, effective title structures (how-to, numbered list, question, curiosity gap, before/after, duration/challenge, comparison, mistake/warning, ultimate guide, personal story), each with an example and the reasoning behind why it works.
  • Pre-publish checklist — a practical checklist to run through before publishing a thumbnail and title.
  • Title/thumbnail overlap checker — evaluate_title_thumbnail_pair computes the word overlap between a title and a plain-language description of the thumbnail, flagging redundancy (the title just repeats what's already visible) versus healthy complementarity (title and image each add something), plus notes on title length and thumbnail visual clutter.
  • Clickbait-vs-curiosity checker — clickbait_vs_curiosity_check analyzes the actual text of a title for manipulative markers (ALL-CAPS shouting, stacked exclamation points, vague hype phrasing like "you won't believe") versus genuine specificity signals (numbers, concrete quotes, named details), and returns a verdict.
  • Recommendations & glossary — recommend_approach suggests fitting title patterns and principles for a stated content type; ctr_glossary defines CTR, impression, the watch-time link, A/B testing, curiosity gap, clickbait, thumbnail, and title tag.

What it deliberately is not

Thumbclick does not teach or encourage manipulative clickbait tactics — bait-and-switch titles, fabricated urgency, or misleading thumbnails. Its clickbait checker exists to help creators avoid that pattern, not produce it. It makes no claims about any specific platform's ranking algorithm, and it does not fetch, inspect, or score real images — the thumbnail-related tools work from a plain-language description you provide.

How it works

All 9 tools run on hand-curated reference content and small, original heuristic text-analysis functions (word-overlap ratios, capitalization/punctuation counts, phrase matching). There are no upstream API calls, no accounts, and no data is stored between requests.
