About

Torque is a fully local DIY car maintenance reference toolkit for common passenger vehicles — general guidance, never vehicle-specific. maintenance_schedule_guide gives commonly-recommended interval ranges for oil changes, tire rotation, air and cabin filters, brake pads, coolant flushes, transmission fluid, spark plugs and timing belts. tire_pressure_info explains the single most commonly-misunderstood tire fact: your correct pressure is on the driver's door jamb or in the owner's manual, never the number on the tire sidewall (that's the maximum, not the recommended, pressure). fluid_check_guide covers how to check level and condition for six common fluids and what a warning sign looks like. warning_light_guide explains common dashboard lights and how urgently to act, erring conservatively. torque_spec_disclaimer_lookup explains why fastener torque specs must come from the service manual, with only a broad illustrative range for lug nuts as an example. battery_troubleshooting_guide covers common starting symptoms with likely cause, safe next steps, and jump-start basics. seasonal_prep_checklist gives winter/summer prep checklists. diy_vs_professional_guide rates common tasks by difficulty and risk, flagging which really warrant a professional. car_care_glossary defines common terms. Every response carries a general disclaimer and a safety disclaimer — brakes, electrical work, and lifting a vehicle carry real risk if done incorrectly. Keyless; fully local; never a substitute for your owner's manual or a certified mechanic; distinct from Garage, which does live VIN decode and recall lookups for a specific vehicle.

What Torque is for

The DIY car-maintenance questions that come up constantly — when should I change my oil, what tire pressure should I actually use, what does that dashboard light mean, is this a job I can do myself or one for a shop — answered as general reference, without pretending to know the specific vehicle in front of you.

Torque is not vehicle-specific: it doesn't decode a VIN or look up recalls for your exact car (that's Garage). It's a general maintenance reference and set of calculators/ guides that apply to common passenger vehicles broadly, always pointing back to the one place that actually knows your car — its owner's manual — and, for anything involving real risk, a certified mechanic.

What it does

Commonly-recommended interval RANGES (never a single number) for routine maintenance — oil changes, tire rotation, air and cabin filters, brake pads, coolant flushes, transmission fluid, spark plugs, and timing belts (maintenance_schedule_guide); the single most commonly-misunderstood tire fact — your correct pressure is on the driver's door jamb or in the owner's manual, not printed on the tire sidewall, which is the tire's maximum pressure (tire_pressure_info); how to check the level and condition of six common fluids and what a warning sign looks like, like milky oil or dark brake fluid (fluid_check_guide); what common dashboard warning lights mean and how urgently to act, erring conservatively toward "get it checked promptly" (warning_light_guide); why torque specs can't responsibly be given as a single authoritative number, with only a broad illustrative range for lug nuts as an example (torque_spec_disclaimer_lookup); likely causes and safe next steps for common battery/starting symptoms, including basic jump-start steps and when to call for help instead (battery_troubleshooting_guide); winter and summer prep checklists (seasonal_prep_checklist); a difficulty/risk read on common tasks — which are commonly DIY-friendly and which really warrant a professional (diy_vs_professional_guide); and a glossary of common car-care terms (car_care_glossary).

What it is not

Not a substitute for your owner's manual or a certified mechanic, and not vehicle-specific — it never asserts a specific interval, torque spec, or procedure as authoritative for your exact make/model/year. Some of what it covers carries real safety risk if done incorrectly — brakes, electrical/battery work, and anything requiring you to lift a vehicle above all — and every relevant tool response says so plainly. When in doubt, this connector's answer is always: check your manual, or ask a certified mechanic.

Tools

Schedule & fluids

maintenance_schedule_guide — A commonly-recommended interval RANGE for a routine maintenance item — always a broad range to defer to your owner's manual, never a specific number for your vehicle. Use for "when should I change my oil", "how often should I rotate my tires", "how long do spark plugs last". Args: item.

tire_pressure_info — Where to find your vehicle's CORRECT tire pressure (the driver's door-jamb sticker or owner's manual) and why that differs from the number molded into the tire sidewall (which is the tire's maximum pressure, not the recommended one) — plus how and when to check. Use for "what tire pressure should I use", "is the number on my tire the right pressure".

fluid_check_guide — How to check the level and condition of a common vehicle fluid, and what a warning sign looks like (e.g. milky oil, burnt smell, dark brake fluid). Use for "how do I check my oil", "what does bad coolant look like". Args: fluid.

Dashboard & torque

warning_light_guide — What a common dashboard warning light generally means and how urgently to act — conservatively, erring toward getting it checked promptly rather than assuming it's minor. Use for "what does the oil light mean", "is it safe to drive with the check engine light on". Args: light_name.

torque_spec_disclaimer_lookup — Explains that torque specs vary by exact make/model/fastener and must come from the vehicle's service manual. Gives a broad, commonly-cited ILLUSTRATIVE range only for lug nuts as a general example — never an authoritative number for any real vehicle or fastener. Use for "what torque for lug nuts", "how tight should spark plugs be". Args: fastener_type.

Trouble & prep

battery_troubleshooting_guide — Likely cause and a safe next step for a common battery/starting symptom, including basic jump-start steps and when to call for professional help instead. Use for "my car won't start, just clicking", "battery terminals are corroded", "how do I jump start my car". Args: symptom.

seasonal_prep_checklist — A general winter or summer vehicle prep checklist (battery check, tire tread/pressure, wiper fluid/blades, coolant mix for winter, A/C check for summer). Use for "winter car checklist", "what should I check before a summer road trip". Args: season.

Decide & learn

diy_vs_professional_guide — A general difficulty/risk tier for a common maintenance task, and whether it's commonly DIY-friendly or really warrants a professional — brakes and anything requiring safely lifting the vehicle skew toward "professional." Use for "can I change my own brake pads", "is a timing belt a DIY job". Args: task.

car_care_glossary — Definitions of common car-care terms (OEM vs. aftermarket, ft-lb, OBD-II, viscosity/weight, VIN, interference engine, and more). Use for "what does OEM mean", "what's OBD-II", "what does 5W-30 mean". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Torque — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Torque is. Torque is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a fully local DIY car maintenance reference: maintenance intervals, tire pressure guidance, fluid checks, dashboard warning lights, torque-spec disclaimers, battery troubleshooting, seasonal checklists, DIY-vs-professional guidance, and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a maintenance item, a fluid, a warning light name, a fastener type, a battery symptom, a season, a task, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything. Torque never receives or asks for any information identifying your vehicle (no VIN, license plate, or vehicle-specific data of any kind) — its guidance is general, not tied to a specific car.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire reference dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Torque is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Torque — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Torque connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Torque returns a fully local, general DIY car maintenance reference — commonly-recommended maintenance intervals, tire pressure guidance, fluid check procedures, dashboard warning-light meanings, torque-spec disclaimers, battery troubleshooting guidance, seasonal prep checklists, DIY-vs-professional guidance, and a glossary. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General reference only — not vehicle-specific, not a manual, not a mechanic. Torque does not know your specific vehicle and never asserts a maintenance interval, torque spec, or procedure as authoritative for your exact make, model, year, trim, or condition. Every response is general guidance for common passenger vehicles, intended to be read alongside — never in place of — your vehicle's owner's manual and, for anything you're unsure about, a certified mechanic.
  3. Real safety risk. Some tasks this Service discusses carry real safety risk if performed incorrectly — brake work, electrical and battery work, and any work requiring the vehicle to be lifted off the ground above all. You are solely responsible for your own safety and for any decision to attempt a DIY repair; Torque's guidance toward "have this checked by a professional" reflects genuine risk and should be taken seriously.
  4. No liability for vehicle damage or injury. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any vehicle damage, personal injury, or other loss arising from your reliance on, or use of, information provided by the Service, including damage or injury arising from DIY maintenance or repair work you perform. Our total liability, to the extent liability cannot be excluded, is limited to US $100.
  5. Not official, not a diagnosis. Torque is an independent reference tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any vehicle manufacturer, and it does not diagnose your specific vehicle's problem — dashboard-light and symptom guidance is general and conservative, not a substitute for an actual inspection or diagnostic scan.
  6. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  7. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  8. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  9. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  10. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
