About

Trellis is a fully local home viticulture (grape-growing) and basic winemaking reference. grape_variety_info gives one of 22 grape varieties' species, wine/table/dual-use category, color, general USDA hardiness-zone range, climate needs, characteristics and disease notes — spanning classic wine grapes, cold-hardy hybrids bred for northern gardens, seedless and seeded table grapes, and muscadine; variety_search finds one by partial name, species, category or trait. varieties_by_climate_zone lists which varieties generally suit a given USDA hardiness zone. trellis_system_guide covers real training/trellis systems — Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP), high-cordon (the Lenz Moser system), Geneva Double Curtain, head training/gobelet, Guyot, Scott Henry, and Lyre — what each looks like and what kind of vine or site it suits. pruning_calendar_guide gives general pruning-timing principles and season-by-season guidance from dormant winter through post-harvest fall. potential_alcohol_calculator estimates potential alcohol from a single starting specific-gravity or Brix reading, assuming complete fermentation, using the standard published formulas — (OG - 1.000) x 131.25, or Brix x 0.55 — and shows the math. soil_and_climate_guide covers general soil-drainage/pH and climate/sunlight/rainfall requirements for growing grapes, plus what a hardiness zone does and doesn't tell you. pest_and_disease_awareness_guide gives non-diagnostic awareness of common grape problems (powdery mildew, downy mildew, black rot, bunch rot/botrytis, a phylloxera historical note, a Pierce's disease note, and birds/wildlife) — always pointing an active problem to a local agricultural extension office, never a specific chemical treatment. viticulture_glossary defines 14 common terms (Brix, veraison, cordon, cane, spur, must, racking, and more). Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; general home-growing information, not agronomic or professional winemaking advice; winemaking content is meant for adults of legal drinking age, and only where home winemaking is legal where you live.

Sources: Hand-curated from public horticultural references (Wikipedia, university viticulture extension programs) as of build date; potential-alcohol formulas verified against published homebrewing/winemaking references; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Trellis is for

The questions a home grape grower actually asks — what can I even grow in my hardiness zone, what's this "VSP" thing nurseries keep mentioning, when am I supposed to prune, what would my hydrometer reading turn into as alcohol — answered from one fully local reference, without wading through a dozen forum threads.

What it does

A profile for each of 22 grape varieties commonly grown by home growers — species, wine/table/dual-use category, color, general USDA hardiness-zone range, climate needs, characteristics and disease notes, spanning classic wine grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling...), cold-hardy hybrids bred for northern gardens (Concord, Frontenac, Marquette, Edelweiss...), seedless and seeded table grapes (Thompson Seedless, Flame Seedless, Reliance, Himrod), and muscadine, a distinct, disease-resistant species native to the warm, humid southeastern US (grape_variety_info, variety_search); a climate-zone lookup that lists which of those varieties generally suit a given USDA hardiness zone (varieties_by_climate_zone); real trellis and vine-training system guides — Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP), high-cordon (the Lenz Moser system), Geneva Double Curtain, head training/gobelet, Guyot, Scott Henry, and Lyre — what each looks like and what kind of vine or site it suits (trellis_system_guide); general pruning-timing principles and season-by-season guidance, from dormant winter through post-harvest fall (pruning_calendar_guide); a potential-alcohol calculator that turns a single starting specific-gravity or Brix reading into an estimated potential alcohol using the standard published formulas — (OG - 1.000) x 131.25, or Brix x 0.55 — and shows its work (potential_alcohol_calculator); general soil-drainage, soil-pH and climate/sunlight/rainfall guidance for growing grapes, including what a hardiness zone does and doesn't tell you (soil_and_climate_guide); non-diagnostic pest and disease awareness covering powdery mildew, downy mildew, black rot, bunch rot/botrytis, a phylloxera historical note, a Pierce's disease regional note, and birds/wildlife (pest_and_disease_awareness_guide); and a 14-term viticulture glossary — Brix, veraison, cordon, cane, spur, must, racking, and more (viticulture_glossary).

What it is not

Not agronomic advice, a plant-health diagnosis tool, or a substitute for your local agricultural extension office — pest_and_disease_awareness_guide gives general, factual awareness of common problems and always points an actual active infestation or disease back to that local extension office, deliberately never naming a specific chemical treatment. It is not a nursery catalog or a personalized planting plan — varieties_by_climate_zone is a general zone-adjacent filter on winter cold survival, not a guarantee a variety will thrive at your exact site (summer heat, humidity, and microclimate all matter too). And potential_alcohol_calculator is an estimate from a single starting reading assuming complete, fully-dry fermentation — not a measurement of your actual finished wine, which depends on yeast strain, temperature, and how completely fermentation actually runs. Winemaking content here is meant for adults of legal drinking age, and only where home winemaking is legal where you live.

Reference

pest_and_disease_awareness_guide — General, non-diagnostic awareness of common grape pests and diseases -- what they are and the conditions that favor them -- always pointing to a local agricultural extension office for an actual active problem, never a specific chemical treatment. Use for "what is powdery mildew", "why is phylloxera historically important". Args: topic.

viticulture_glossary — Definitions of common viticulture and winemaking terms (Brix, veraison, cordon, cane, spur, must, racking, and more). Use for "what does veraison mean", "what's a cordon". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Trellis — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Trellis is. Trellis is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a home viticulture (grape-growing) and basic winemaking reference: grape variety profiles, trellis/training system guides, a pruning calendar, a potential-alcohol calculator, soil/climate guidance, non-diagnostic pest and disease awareness, and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup or calculation.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a grape variety name, a USDA hardiness zone, a trellis system or pruning season, a specific-gravity or Brix reading, a pest/disease topic, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file or computed on the spot, and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything. A specific-gravity or Brix reading you give the potential-alcohol calculator is used only to compute that one response and is not retained.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Trellis is a general-audience gardening and hobbyist reference operated by the adult using the assistant; its winemaking-related content is intended for adults of legal drinking age.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Trellis — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Trellis connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Trellis returns a hand-curated home viticulture and basic winemaking reference — grape variety profiles, trellis/training system guides, a pruning calendar, a potential-alcohol calculator, soil/climate guidance, non-diagnostic pest and disease awareness, and a glossary — from data verified against public references at build time, plus published, cited fermentation-chemistry formulas computed locally. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General reference, not professional or agronomic advice. Trellis is an independent hobbyist and reference tool, not a substitute for guidance from a nursery, a certified viticulturist, or your local agricultural extension office. pest_and_disease_awareness_guide gives general, non-diagnostic awareness only — it does not diagnose a specific plant's problem and does not recommend a specific chemical treatment. Nothing in the Service should be relied on as the sole basis for a planting, pest-management, or winemaking decision with real money or a real growing season at stake.
  3. Estimates, not measurements. potential_alcohol_calculator produces an estimate from a single starting reading using standard published approximations; actual results vary with yeast strain, fermentation temperature, and how completely fermentation runs. Confirm with an actual measurement if the exact figure matters.
  4. Facts and figures change less than they might for a live data source, but this is still a reference, not a guarantee. Verify anything safety-, legality-, or health-relevant (e.g. home-winemaking production limits and legality, which vary by jurisdiction) against your own local law and a current authoritative source.
  5. Legal drinking age. Winemaking-related content is intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction, and only where home winemaking is legal.
  6. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  7. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  8. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file or computed locally, and nothing is stored.
  9. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  10. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  11. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
