What US 1099 Readiness Check is for
US 1099 Readiness Check applies the IRS information-return rules to a small business's own payment totals. check_1099_required and ytd_payee_status test each payee's year-to-date payments against the threshold in force for the payment year ($600 through 2025, $2,000 from 2026), with the corporation exceptions and the card and payment-app carve-out modelled from the IRS instructions. classify_form maps a payment kind to Form 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC or 1099-K. filing_dates computes furnish and file dates with the weekend shift. validate_ein_format checks the nine-digit EIN layout and the IRS prefix list offline, and rejects SSN-shaped values without echoing them. k_threshold_check tests the 1099-K trigger for marketplace and payment-app sellers. iris_precheck screens a batch for content problems before it is keyed or uploaded to the free IRIS portal. reporting_thresholds returns the reference table with sources and verification status. Read-only: nothing is filed, sent or stored, and no payee is looked up.
Ask your assistant things like:
- "I paid a freelance designer $1,850 by ACH and $400 by check in 2026: do I need to send a 1099-NEC?"
- "Here are my 2026 vendor payments so far: which payees are at or close to the 1099 threshold?"
- "A new vendor sent me an EIN on their W-9: is it at least well-formed?"
- "When are my 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms for 2026 due, and when do I have to e-file?"
- "I sold $21,500 across 185 orders on a marketplace this year: will I get a 1099-K?"
- "Before I enter my contractor 1099s into IRIS, can you check the TINs and amounts in this list?"
