What US Reporting Triggers is for

US Reporting Triggers answers three questions a small-business owner's agent keeps getting wrong. check_boi_duty applies FinCEN's beneficial ownership information (BOI) rules as they stand after the final rule effective 2026-08-14: entities created in the United States are exempt, and only foreign entities registered to do business in a US state or tribal jurisdiction are covered, with the deadline that follows from the registration date. check_fbar_duty tests the FBAR threshold (aggregate value of foreign financial accounts above $10,000 at any time in the calendar year) and fbar_deadline gives the April 15 due date and the automatic October 15 extension for a report year. check_form_8300 tests whether cash received in a trade or business exceeds $10,000 (single or related payments, with the cash definition) and form_8300_deadline gives the 15-day filing date and the January 31 statement date. explain_trigger returns the rule, its dates, its history and its sources. Every answer names the date it was evaluated for, the source pages with as_of dates, and how well each fact is verified. It states what the rule says; it does not file anything and does not give advice.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "I formed my LLC in Delaware last year. Does the BOI reporting rule still cover it?"
  • "My UK-formed company registered to do business in Texas on 2026-09-10. What is its BOI deadline under the current rule?"
  • "We had about $12,500 across two foreign bank accounts at one point in 2025. Does the FBAR threshold apply and what are the dates?"
  • "A customer paid $6,000 in cash today and $5,500 in cash yesterday. Does the Form 8300 rule reach this?"
  • "We took cash on 2026-09-18. When is the Form 8300 filing date and the payer statement date?"

  • fbar_deadline: FBAR due date (April 15) and the automatic extension date (October 15) for a report year, with status on a date.
  • check_form_8300: Whether cash received in a trade or business, alone or with related payments, exceeds the $10,000 Form 8300 threshold.
  • form_8300_deadline: The 15-day Form 8300 filing date and the January 31 written-statement date for a cash transaction date.
  • explain_trigger: Source-linked explanation of one trigger (BOI, FBAR or Form 8300): rule, dates, history, sources and what is not modelled.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.
