What South Africa Payroll Deadline Calendar is for
South Africa Payroll Deadline Calendar tells an employer what is owed to SARS and when, built for a Monday-morning what-is-due check. next_emp201_due applies the SARS rule (EMP201 paid within seven days after the end of the month of deduction, moved to the last business day before a weekend or public holiday) to a deduction month or finds the next one due. due_in_next_days lists every EMP201 date and EMP501 window opening or closing inside a look-ahead. emp501_windows returns the interim and annual reconciliation windows for the 2026 and 2027 reconciliation years with their status; emp501_penalty_estimate applies the published late-submission wording (1% of annual PAYE liability, 1% more for every month outstanding, up to 10%). sdl_liability_check applies the SDL test (more than R500,000 expected over 12 months, 1% of salaries). public_holiday_adjust and sa_public_holidays compute the South African public holidays from the Public Holidays Act rule as listed on gov.za, so weekend and holiday moves are exact; one-off proclaimed holidays can be supplied. Everything is computed locally from figures the caller supplies; nothing is stored, filed or paid. General information only, not tax advice.
Ask your assistant things like:
- "What payroll deadlines fall in the next 14 days?"
- "When is my EMP201 for October 2026 due, given 7 November is a Saturday?"
- "When does the interim EMP501 reconciliation window close and is it open today?"
- "My annual PAYE liability is R240,000 and my EMP501 is two months late: what penalty does the SARS wording give?"
- "I expect to pay R620,000 in salaries over the next 12 months: am I liable for SDL and how much per month?"
- "Which South African public holidays fall in 2026, so I can plan payroll dates?"
