What South Africa PAYE Calculator 2026/27 is for

South Africa PAYE Calculator 2026/27 gives an agent payroll-tax arithmetic that matches the SARS table instead of a guess. compute_paye_annual applies the seven SARS brackets for the 2027 tax year (1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027) with a bracket-by-bracket breakdown and the primary, secondary (65 and older) and tertiary (75 and older) rebates. compute_paye_monthly annualises a steady monthly amount and divides the annual tax by 12; net_to_gross solves the monthly pay that leaves a target amount after PAYE. tax_threshold_check returns the age-based tax-free thresholds (R99,000, R153,250, R171,300) and checks an income against them. employer_sdl applies the Skills Development Levy test (more than R500,000 expected over 12 months, then 1%). emp201_amount_summary adds PAYE, SDL and UIF amounts the caller supplies; paye_tables returns the table, rebates and thresholds with the SARS row text, source URLs and verification labels. Medical scheme fees tax credits, retirement fund deductions, fringe benefits, bonuses, ETI and UIF rates are not modelled (the UIF rate was not on the SARS page read, so no UIF estimate is offered). Everything is computed locally in exact decimal arithmetic; nothing is stored, filed or paid. General information only, not tax advice.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What is the annual income tax on R450,000 of taxable income for a 40 year old in the 2026/27 tax year?"
  • "What monthly PAYE does the SARS table give on a steady R35,000 a month?"
  • "What monthly gross gives R30,000 after PAYE?"
  • "What is the tax threshold for a 67 year old, and is R150,000 above it?"
  • "My payroll is about R620,000 a year: what SDL do I pay on R50,000 of salaries this month?"
  • "Show me the 2026/27 brackets, rebates and thresholds with a source I can cite."

What it does

  • compute_paye_annual: Annual income tax on taxable income by the SARS 2026/27 table with a bracket-by-bracket breakdown, the primary, secondary and tertiary rebates and the effective rate.
  • compute_paye_monthly: Monthly PAYE by annualisation: monthly pay times 12, SARS 2026/27 table less the age rebates, divided by 12.
  • net_to_gross: Find the smallest monthly taxable remuneration whose pay after PAYE is at least the target, and show the PAYE and net.
  • tax_threshold_check: Return the tax-free threshold for an age (under 65, 65 and older, 75 and older) and, optionally, whether an income is above it.
  • employer_sdl: Employer Skills Development Levy: liable when more than R500,000 is expected over 12 months, then 1% of salaries paid.
  • emp201_amount_summary: Add the month's PAYE, SDL and UIF amounts you supply into one total for an employer payment.
  • paye_tables: Return the SARS 2026/27 rates of tax, rebates and age thresholds with the exact row text, source URL, retrieval date and verification label.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.
