slang_lookupformality_checkrandom_slangslang_by_categoryslang_searchphrase_of_the_daytranslate_hintregional_noteglossary_statsslang_lookupslang_by_categoryGíria is a hand-curated Brazilian Portuguese slang and everyday-expression glossary. slang_lookup gives one term's definition, its literal meaning versus what it actually means, an example sentence in Portuguese with an English translation, and a formality note. slang_search does a keyword search across terms, definitions and examples. random_slang and slang_by_category browse the glossary by category (greeting, praise, money, food, party, romance, football, Carnival and more). phrase_of_the_day returns a deterministic pick for today's date with a full explanation. translate_hint suggests the closest Brazilian slang equivalent to a common English casual phrase like "let's go" or "that's cool". formality_check flags whether a term is casual-only, needs care in formal settings, or is broadly fine. regional_note says whether a term is nationwide or tied to a region (São Paulo, Rio, Bahia, the Northeast, the South). glossary_stats gives the total term count and category breakdown. Keyless; fully local; a hand-curated, family-friendly reference — no profanity, verified as of its build date.

Look up over a hundred real, commonly used Brazilian Portuguese slang terms and everyday expressions:
each one's definition, its literal meaning versus what it actually means in conversation, an example
sentence in Portuguese with an English translation, and a formality note (slang_lookup); search by
keyword across every term, definition and example (slang_search); pull a random term, optionally
filtered to a category like greeting, praise, money, food, party, romance, football, or Carnival
(random_slang, slang_by_category); get a deterministic phrase of the day, the same for everyone
asking on a given date, with a full explanation (phrase_of_the_day); get a best-effort suggestion for
the closest Brazilian slang equivalent to a common English casual phrase like "let's go" or "no big deal"
(translate_hint); check whether a term is casual-only, needs care in formal settings, or is broadly
fine anywhere (formality_check); see whether a term is nationwide or tied to a specific region — São
Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, the Northeast, the South (regional_note); and get the glossary's total
term count and category breakdown (glossary_stats).
Not a live dictionary API and not an academic linguistics reference — Gíria is a hand-curated glossary, verified as of the build date stated in its own data, written to be genuinely useful for an expat, a learner, or anyone curious about colloquial Brazilian Portuguese. Slang moves fast and varies by region, generation and social circle, so a term's tone or popularity can shift, and this glossary won't have tomorrow's newest meme term or a hyper-local expression from one specific city block. The dataset is kept family-friendly on purpose: mild slang and everyday expressions only, no profanity or slurs. For anything sensitive or high-stakes (a legal document, a formal letter), don't rely on slang register notes alone — ask a native speaker.
slang_lookup — Look up one Brazilian Portuguese slang term or everyday expression: its definition, its literal meaning versus what it actually/idiomatically means, an example sentence in Portuguese with an English translation, and a formality/register note. Use for "what does 'beleza' mean", "what does 'dar um jeitinho' actually mean". Args: term.
slang_search — Search across every term, definition, literal meaning and example sentence for a keyword. Use for "find slang about money", "any Brazilian slang for being embarrassed". Args: query.
random_slang — A random Brazilian Portuguese slang term, optionally filtered to one category. Use for "give me a random Brazilian slang word", "teach me a random football-slang term". Args: category.
slang_by_category — List every term in one category. Use for "show me Brazilian greeting slang", "list all football-derived Brazilian expressions". See glossary_stats for the full list of categories. Args: category.
phrase_of_the_day — A deterministic "phrase of the day" — the same term for everyone who asks on a given calendar date — with its full explanation. Use for "phrase of the day", "teach me a Brazilian slang word for today".
translate_hint — Best-effort suggestion(s) for the closest Brazilian-Portuguese slang equivalent to a common English casual phrase or idiom, matched by keyword against this connector's own curated data — not a live translation service. Use for "what's the Brazilian slang for 'let's go'", "how would a Brazilian say 'that's cool'". Args: english_phrase.
formality_check — Flags whether a term is casual-only (friends/family, avoid formally), needs care in formal or professional settings even though it isn't profanity, or is broadly fine anywhere. Use for "is 'mano' okay to say to my boss", "can I use 'valeu' in a work email". Args: term.
regional_note — Whether a term is used nationwide or skews to a specific region (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, the Northeast, the South, ...). Use for "is 'oxente' used everywhere in Brazil", "where is 'bah' from". Args: term.
glossary_stats — Counts by category, the register (formality) breakdown, and the total term count in this glossary. Use for "how many slang terms do you know", "what categories does this cover".

What Gíria is. Gíria is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated Brazilian Portuguese slang and everyday-expression glossary: term lookups, keyword search, categories, a phrase of the day, English-to-slang translation hints, and formality/regional notes. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a slang term, a search keyword, a category, or an English phrase — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated glossary file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Gíria is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
