About

Roast is a fully local coffee brewing calculator and reference toolkit. brew_ratio_calculator solves standard brew ratios for pour-over (~1:16), French press (~1:15), espresso (~1:2) or cold brew concentrate (~1:8) — give either the water or coffee weight and it computes the other. cold_brew_calculator does the same math for a custom cold-brew ratio plus steep-time guidance; espresso_dose_yield_guide solves a dose:yield ratio and names the shot style (ristretto/normale/lungo). extraction_troubleshooter turns a taste problem (bitter, sour, weak, harsh, muddy) into likely causes and a specific fix. roast_level_guide covers light/medium/medium-dark/dark roasts; grind_size_guide and water_temp_guide give the recommended grind and water temperature per brew method; origin_flavor_guide covers general flavor tendencies by growing region; coffee_glossary defines common terms. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream API calls.

Sources: Widely-cited coffee brewing conventions (SCA-style ratio and temperature guidelines, standard brewing references) and hand-written general reference data; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Roast is for

The math and reference facts that come up every time someone brews coffee — how much coffee for this much water, why does this taste sour, what grind does a French press want, how hot should the water be — answered instantly and computed correctly, without hunting through a dozen brewing blogs that each cite a slightly different number.

What it does

Genuine solved algebra, not a lookup table: brew_ratio_calculator takes a brew method (pour-over ~1:16, French press ~1:15, espresso ~1:2, cold brew concentrate ~1:8) and either side of the ratio, and computes the other; cold_brew_calculator does the same for a custom cold-brew ratio plus steep-time guidance (12-24 hours); and espresso_dose_yield_guide solves a dose:yield ratio (18g in → 36g out for a standard double) and names the shot style (ristretto/normale/lungo). Alongside the calculators, extraction_troubleshooter turns a taste problem (bitter, sour, weak, harsh, muddy) into its likely causes and a specific fix; roast_level_guide covers light/medium/medium-dark/dark roasts — flavor profile, typical origin pairing, and typical use; grind_size_guide and water_temp_guide give the recommended grind and water-temperature range per brew method; origin_flavor_guide covers general flavor tendencies by growing region (Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, Sumatra/Indonesia, Kenya, Guatemala, Costa Rica); and coffee_glossary defines common terms (extraction, TDS, bloom, crema, single-origin, blend, washed/natural/honey process, and more).

What it is not

Not a substitute for tasting and adjusting. Every number here is a widely-cited starting point — a brew ratio, a temperature range, a grind size — not a guarantee for any particular bean, roaster, or water. Origin flavor notes are general tendencies commonly associated with a growing region, not a promise about any specific bag of beans, and Roast never names or recommends a specific commercial brand or roaster. Adjust from these starting points to match your own taste, equipment, and water.

Tools

Calculators

brew_ratio_calculator — Solves a standard brew ratio for pour-over (~1:16), French press (~1:15), espresso (~1:2), or cold brew concentrate (~1:8). Give either water_grams or coffee_grams and the other is computed; give both to see the ratio they actually imply. Use for "how much coffee for 500g water pour-over", "how much water for 20g coffee in a French press". Args: method, water_grams, coffee_grams.

cold_brew_calculator — Solves a cold-brew coffee:water ratio (default 1:8 concentrate) for whichever side you don't give it, plus steep-time guidance (12-24 hours) and a dilution tip. Use for "how much coffee for 1000g cold brew water", "how long should I steep cold brew". Args: coffee_grams, water_grams, ratio.

espresso_dose_yield_guide — Solves an espresso dose:yield ratio (default 1:2, e.g. 18g in -> 36g out for a standard double) for whichever side you don't give it, and names the shot style (ristretto/normale/lungo). Use for "18g dose, how much should I yield", "36g out, how much coffee did that use". Args: dose_grams, yield_grams, ratio.

Troubleshooting

extraction_troubleshooter — Turns a coffee taste problem (bitter, sour, weak, harsh, muddy) into its likely causes (grind, brew time, water temperature, ratio) and a specific fix. Use for "why does my coffee taste bitter", "my pour-over is weak, what's wrong". Args: taste_issue.

Reference

roast_level_guide — A roast level's flavor profile, typical bean-origin pairing, and typical use (light roasts often for pour-over/filter, dark roasts often for espresso, as general convention). Use for "what does a light roast taste like", "what's a medium-dark roast good for". Args: level.

grind_size_guide — The recommended grind size for a brew method — extra coarse for cold brew, coarse for French press, medium for drip/pour-over, medium-fine for moka pot, fine for espresso, extra fine for Turkish — with a texture comparison and why. Use for "what grind size for French press", "how fine should espresso grounds be". Args: method.

water_temp_guide — The recommended water temperature range (°F and °C) for a brew method. Most methods fall in the commonly cited 195-205°F / ~90-96°C band; cold brew uses room-temperature or cold water by design, and Turkish coffee is simmered well below a boil. Use for "what water temperature for pour-over", "how hot should espresso water be". Args: method.

origin_flavor_guide — General, qualitative flavor tendencies commonly associated with a coffee-growing region (Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, Sumatra/Indonesia, Kenya, Guatemala, Costa Rica), phrased as a general tendency rather than a guarantee. Use for "what does Ethiopian coffee taste like", "what's Sumatran coffee known for". Args: origin.

coffee_glossary — Definitions of common coffee terms (extraction, TDS, bloom, crema, single-origin, blend, washed process, natural process, honey process, body, acidity, degassing, ...). Use for "what's a bloom in coffee", "what does TDS mean". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Roast — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Roast is. Roast is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a fully local coffee brewing calculator and reference toolkit: brew ratios, cold-brew and espresso dose:yield math, extraction troubleshooting, roast-level, grind-size, water-temperature, origin-flavor, and glossary references. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one calculation or lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a brew method, a coffee or water weight, a ratio, a taste issue, a roast level, an origin, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered by local computation or from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — every calculation and every dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Roast is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Roast — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Roast connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Roast is a fully local coffee brewing calculator and reference toolkit — brew-ratio, cold-brew and espresso dose:yield math, extraction troubleshooting, roast-level, grind-size, water-temperature, origin-flavor, and glossary references — computed or looked up from bundled reference data. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. A reference and calculator, not a taste guarantee. Roast is an independent brewing tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any coffee brand, roaster, equipment maker, or certifying body. Every ratio, temperature, grind size, and flavor note is a widely-cited general starting point, not a guarantee for any particular bean, equipment, or water — always adjust to taste.
  3. Not commercial endorsement. Roast does not name or recommend any specific commercial coffee brand or roaster, and nothing in the Service should be read as such.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered by local computation or from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service — including any brewed coffee that doesn't turn out the way you hoped. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
