About

Roost bundles backyard poultry-keeping know-how into one connector, hand-curated and computed locally with no upstream calls. breed_info covers origin, size, egg color and production, temperament, broodiness, and cold/heat hardiness for 25+ breeds — Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Rock, Leghorn, Orpington, Wyandotte, Sussex, Brahma, Australorp, Marans, Welsummer, Ameraucana, Jersey Giant, Cornish, Silkie, Polish, Sebright, Cochin, and more; breed_search finds one by partial name, alias, or trait; breeds_by_purpose filters by egg-laying, meat, dual-purpose, or ornamental/bantam. coop_sizing_guide calculates real coop and run square footage for a flock size, from cooperative-extension-style housing guidance. nesting_and_roosting_guide covers nesting-box ratios/sizes and roosting-bar space, height, and placement. flock_health_guide covers common, non-diagnostic wellness topics (molting, broodiness, parasites, heat/cold stress, pecking order, bumblefoot, egg binding, and more), with an explicit vet-consultation disclaimer on anything symptom-related. egg_production_info gives typical eggs-per-year ranges and egg color by breed, or ranked across the whole reference. predator_proofing_guide covers hardware cloth vs. chicken wire, dig-guard aprons, overhead cover, secure locks, and common predators. poultry_glossary defines terms like broody, pullet, molt, and vent. Keyless; nothing stored; general poultry-keeping information, not veterinary, structural, or legal advice — check local zoning/HOA rules before keeping chickens.

What Roost is for

The question that comes up when someone is planning or already keeping a backyard flock — which breed actually fits my goals, how big does my coop really need to be, is this normal or something to call a vet about, how do I keep raccoons out — answered from one hand-curated, real-world poultry-keeping reference instead of a dozen conflicting hobby-forum threads.

What it does

A profile for each of 25+ backyard chicken breeds — origin, size, egg color and production, temperament, broodiness, cold/heat hardiness, and purpose category (breed_info, breed_search); breeds filtered by purpose — egg-laying, meat, dual-purpose, or ornamental/bantam (breeds_by_purpose); a real coop-and-run space-per-bird calculator built on cooperative-extension-style backyard-flock housing guidance (coop_sizing_guide); nesting-box ratios/sizes and roosting-bar space, height and placement (nesting_and_roosting_guide); common, non-diagnostic flock wellness topics — molting, broodiness, parasites, heat/cold stress, pecking order, and more — each carrying an explicit vet-consultation disclaimer when it's symptom-related (flock_health_guide); typical eggs-per-year ranges and egg color by breed, or ranked across the whole reference (egg_production_info); practical predator-proofing guidance — hardware cloth vs. chicken wire, dig-guard aprons, overhead cover, secure locks, and common predators by risk (predator_proofing_guide); and a glossary of common terms — broody, pullet, molt, vent, comb, pecking order, and more (poultry_glossary).

What it is not

Not a veterinarian, a structural engineer, or a lawyer. flock_health_guide covers general, non-diagnostic wellness topics and flags anything symptom-related with a clear reminder to contact a poultry-experienced veterinarian or local agricultural extension office — it never attempts to diagnose a sick bird. Coop-sizing figures are husbandry guidance, not a building code, and local zoning or HOA rules on keeping chickens (rooster bans, flock-size caps, setback distances, permits) vary by jurisdiction and are never assumed here — check your own city, county, or HOA directly.

Tools

Breeds

breed_info — A chicken breed's characteristics: origin, size, egg color and production, temperament, broodiness, cold/heat hardiness, and purpose category. Use for "tell me about Wyandottes", "is a Brahma cold-hardy". Args: name.

breed_search — Search the 25+ chicken breeds in this guide by partial name, alias, origin, or trait keyword. Use for "do you have anything on Marans", "what breeds lay blue eggs". Args: query.

breeds_by_purpose — Chicken breeds in a given purpose category — egg-laying, meat, dual-purpose, or ornamental/bantam. Use for "what breeds are best for meat", "good dual-purpose breeds for a homestead". Args: purpose.

Housing

coop_sizing_guide — A real space-per-bird calculator for coop and run square footage, from cooperative-extension-style backyard-flock housing guidance. Use for "how big of a coop do I need for 6 chickens", "run size for a dozen bantams". Args: flock_size, size_class.

nesting_and_roosting_guide — Nesting-box ratios and sizes, and roosting-bar space per bird, height, and placement. Use for "how many nesting boxes do I need for 10 hens", "how much roost space per chicken".

Care

flock_health_guide — Common, non-diagnostic flock wellness topics (molting, broodiness, parasites, heat/cold stress, pecking order, and more), with an explicit vet-consultation disclaimer on anything symptom-related. Not a diagnosis tool. Use for "is my hen okay if she's not laying", "what is bumblefoot", "how do I stop feather pecking". Args: topic.

predator_proofing_guide — Practical predator-proofing guidance: hardware cloth vs. chicken wire, dig-guard aprons, overhead cover, secure locks, and common predators by risk. Use for "how do I keep raccoons out of my coop", "do I need a buried fence for foxes".

Eggs & Reference

egg_production_info — Typical eggs-per-year ranges and egg color, for one breed or ranked across the whole reference. Use for "how many eggs per week does a Leghorn lay", "which breeds lay the most eggs", "what color eggs does an Ameraucana lay". Args: breed.

poultry_glossary — Definitions of common backyard-poultry terms (broody, pullet, molt, vent, comb, pecking order, and more). Use for "what does broody mean", "what's a pullet". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Roost — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Roost is. Roost is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated backyard poultry-keeping reference: chicken breed profiles, coop and run sizing, nesting/roosting guidance, flock health basics, egg-production info, and predator-proofing tips. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a breed name, a flock size, a purpose category, or a health or glossary topic — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any information about a specific bird, flock, or property, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Roost is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Roost — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Roost connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Roost returns a hand-curated backyard poultry-keeping reference — chicken breed profiles, coop and run sizing, nesting/roosting guidance, flock health basics, egg-production info, predator-proofing tips, and a glossary — from data bundled with the server. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General information, not professional advice. Roost provides general poultry-keeping information for reference only. It is not veterinary advice — flock_health_guide covers non-diagnostic wellness topics and explicitly directs symptom-related concerns to a poultry-experienced veterinarian rather than attempting to diagnose or treat a bird. It is not structural or engineering advice — coop-sizing figures are husbandry guidance, not a building code or permit requirement. It is not legal advice — local zoning, HOA, and ordinance rules on keeping chickens vary by jurisdiction and are never assumed or stated by this Service; check your own city, county, or HOA directly.
  3. Individual results vary. Real breeds, birds, climates, and households vary — an egg-production range, a temperament description, or a coop-sizing figure is a starting point, not a guarantee of a particular outcome for any individual bird or flock.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss — including harm to a bird, flock, or property — arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
