The question that comes up when the desert gets specific — what is the ghaf tree, is the Arabian oryx actually endangered, what do you do in a sandstorm, how did Bedouin navigate without a compass, what's a wadi — answered from one hand-curated reference, without a scroll through inconsistent travel blogs or guessing at conservation status.
Description, habitat, adaptations and traditional use for 8 native desert plants — the ghaf tree, date palm,
desert truffle, rimth, arfaj, ghada (white broom), samar (umbrella thorn acacia), and desert hyacinth
(desert_plant_info); description, habitat, adaptations and IUCN-verified conservation status for 11 desert
animals — the Arabian oryx, fennec fox, desert monitor, sand cat, dorcas gazelle, sand gazelle (reem),
Rüppell's fox, Arabian wolf, dromedary camel, the Egyptian spiny-tailed lizard (dhub), and MacQueen's bustard
(houbara) (desert_animal_info); search across names, aliases, scientific names and description text
(species_search); practical, non-diagnostic camping and travel safety guidance for heat and hydration,
sandstorms, navigation basics, and nighttime cold, with a clear direction to professional medical help or
local emergency services for serious symptoms (camping_safety_guide); traditional Bedouin star-navigation
and landscape-reading knowledge, presented factually and respectfully as real historical wayfinding
expertise (bedouin_navigation_knowledge_info); real desert-geography vocabulary — erg, hamada, wadi, oasis,
sabkha, reg, barchan and seif dunes, qa', and yardang (desert_geography_glossary); IUCN-verified
conservation status for any species in the data, or an overview of all of them, including the Arabian
oryx's documented recovery from Extinct in the Wild to Vulnerable (conservation_status_info); traditional
water-source-finding knowledge — wadis, traditional wells, and Oman's falaj/qanat system
(water_and_navigation_guide); and a glossary of general desert-life and travel terms — badia, Rub' al
Khali, sarab (mirage), bedu, qafila, hima, simoom, shamal, manzil, and khaima (desert_glossary).
Not a survival manual, a medical reference, or a wildlife-trade or acquisition guide. camping_safety_guide
gives general, non-diagnostic safety information and always directs to professional medical help or local
emergency services for anything serious — it is not a substitute for either. bedouin_navigation_knowledge_
info and water_and_navigation_guide describe real, historically documented Bedouin desert-life knowledge
factually and respectfully, not as a replacement for a GPS device, map, compass, and adequate water on a
modern desert trip. conservation_status_info and desert_animal_info cite genuine, verified IUCN Red List
assessments and documented conservation history rather than guessing at a species' status, and describe
several species that are legally protected across parts of their range — this is a factual reference, not
guidance for approaching, capturing, trading, or keeping wild or protected species.
desert_plant_info — One desert plant's description, habitat, adaptations, and traditional use if any — covers the ghaf tree, date palm, desert truffle, rimth, arfaj, ghada (white broom), samar (umbrella thorn acacia), and desert hyacinth. Use for "what is the ghaf tree", "tell me about rimth", "what's arfaj". Args: name.
desert_animal_info — One desert animal's description, habitat, adaptations, and IUCN-verified conservation status — covers the Arabian oryx, fennec fox, desert monitor, sand cat, dorcas gazelle, sand gazelle (reem), Rüppell's fox, Arabian wolf, dromedary camel, the Egyptian spiny-tailed lizard (dhub), and MacQueen's bustard (houbara). Use for "tell me about the fennec fox", "is the desert monitor endangered", "what is a dhub". Args: name.
species_search — Search all desert plants and animals in this connector's data by partial name, alias, scientific name, or description text. Use for "desert animals with big ears", "plants that grow in wadis", "which animal has no natural water source". Args: query.
conservation_status_info — IUCN-verified conservation status for a desert species, or an overview of every species this connector tracks — including the Arabian oryx's documented recovery from Extinct in the Wild (1972) to Vulnerable (2011), the first species ever to make that specific IUCN Red List recovery. Use for "is the Arabian oryx endangered", "what's the conservation status of the sand gazelle", "which desert animals are endangered". Args: species.
camping_safety_guide — Practical desert camping and travel safety guidance — heat and hydration safety, sandstorm/dust-storm safety, navigation basics, and nighttime cold. Non-diagnostic: directs to professional medical help or local emergency services for serious symptoms. Use for "how much water do I need in the desert", "what do I do in a sandstorm", "desert camping safety tips". Args: topic.
bedouin_navigation_knowledge_info — Traditional Bedouin desert navigation knowledge — star navigation (Al-Jady, the pole star) and landscape-reading (dune orientation, wadi drainage, tracking) — presented factually and respectfully as real historical wayfinding expertise, not folklore. Use for "how did Bedouin navigate the desert", "what is Al-Jady", "how do you read dune shape for direction".
water_and_navigation_guide — Traditional desert water-source-finding knowledge — wadis, traditional wells, and Oman's falaj/qanat system — framed historically and practically, alongside a note that this is not a substitute for carrying adequate water on a modern trip. Use for "how did Bedouin find water in the desert", "what is a falaj", "traditional desert well knowledge".
desert_geography_glossary — Definitions of real desert-geography and landform terms — erg (sand sea), hamada (rocky plateau), wadi (dry riverbed), oasis, sabkha (salt flat), reg/serir (gravel plain), barchan and seif dunes, qa' (playa), and yardang. Use for "what's a wadi", "what is an erg", "what's the difference between a barchan and a seif dune". Args: term.

Use for "what does badia mean", "what is a qafila", "what's hima". Args: term.

What Sahra (Desert) is. Sahra (Desert) is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated desert ecology, camping/travel safety, and Bedouin desert-life knowledge reference — plant and animal profiles with conservation status, camping safety guidance, traditional navigation and water-finding knowledge, desert geography, and glossaries. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a plant, animal or species name, a search query, a safety topic, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Sahra (Desert) is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
