About

Scanwise is a fully local document-scanning and OCR quality reference that never receives, processes, or stores an actual image, scan, or photo — every tool answers a text question about scanning technique. best_practices gives tips for one of six categories (lighting, angle, resolution, contrast, surface_and_handling, file_format_and_settings), and category_list names them. failure_mode_lookup takes a described OCR problem and returns the likely cause and fix; failure_modes_list shows all of them. tips_by_document_type gives guidance for receipts, books, ID cards, handwritten notes, whiteboards, and multi-page forms; document_type_list names them. pre_scan_checklist is a step-by-step pre-scan routine. resolution_recommendation gives a recommended DPI for a stated use case. glossary defines OCR/scanning terms — DPI, deskew, dewarp, binarization, bit depth, moiré, layout analysis, searchable PDF, OCR vs ICR. Keyless; zero upstream calls; nothing submitted is stored — and critically, no image processing happens here at all.

Sources: Hand-curated from widely documented, non-controversial scanning/OCR practice (DPI norms, lighting and skew-correction fundamentals); fully local, zero upstream calls, no image processing occurs, nothing submitted is stored

What Scanwise is for

"Why did my scan come out garbled", "what DPI should I use", "tips for scanning a receipt" — a reference for getting clean scans and reliable OCR results. It never touches an actual image: every tool answers a text question about technique, not a photo or file you upload.

What it does

best_practices gives tips across six categories — lighting, angle, resolution, contrast, surface & handling, and file format & settings — and category_list names them. failure_mode_lookup takes a described OCR problem (garbled text, missing lines, swapped characters, wrong reading order) and returns the likely cause and fix; failure_modes_list shows the full set. tips_by_document_type gives specific guidance for six document types — receipt, book or bound document, ID card, handwritten note, whiteboard, multi-page form — and document_type_list names them. pre_scan_checklist is a step-by-step routine to run through before scanning anything. resolution_recommendation gives a recommended DPI for a stated use case (OCR on normal or small text, archival preservation, quick reference, or a photo/graphic). glossary defines the terms that come up around scanning and OCR — DPI, deskew, dewarp, binarization, bit depth, moiré, layout analysis, searchable PDF, and the difference between OCR and ICR.

What it is not

Not an OCR engine and not an image processor — Scanwise never receives, analyzes, or stores an actual scan, photo, or file. It's a reference for the technique that makes whatever OCR tool you're actually using perform better, based on widely documented, non-controversial scanning fundamentals rather than any single product's marketing claims.

Privacy policy

Scanwise — Privacy Policy

Effective 25 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Scanwise is. Scanwise is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated document-scanning and OCR quality reference. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a category name, a described OCR symptom, a document type, or a use case — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs. Scanwise has no mechanism to receive an actual image, scan, or photo — no tool accepts one, and none is ever processed or stored.

Everything is answered from a bundled reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, any document content, or any image data whatsoever, and we do not build a profile from your queries. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Scanwise is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Scanwise — Terms of Service

Effective 25 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Scanwise connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Scanwise returns a hand-curated document-scanning and OCR quality reference — best- practice tips, a failure-mode lookup, document-type-specific guidance, a pre-scan checklist, a resolution recommendation, and a glossary. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. No image processing. The Service has no capability to accept, process, or store an actual image, scan, or photo. It answers text questions about technique only, and does not perform OCR itself.
  3. General guidance, not a guarantee. Content reflects widely documented, general scanning and OCR practice. It does not know the specifics of your equipment, document, or software, and does not guarantee any particular OCR accuracy or outcome.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
