About

Starlore is a fully local constellation guide and mythology reference — cultural content, not live sky positions. constellation_info gives one of the 88 official IAU constellations' mythology and cultural origin (primarily Greek, with other traditions noted where documented), notable stars, and general best-viewing season/hemisphere; constellation_search finds one by partial name, meaning, or myth keyword. constellations_by_season and constellations_by_hemisphere give qualitative seasonal/hemisphere viewing guidance. mythology_story gives the fuller origin story standalone. star_info covers notable named stars (Sirius, Betelgeuse, Polaris, Vega, Rigel, Antares, Aldebaran, Alpha Centauri, Arcturus, Canopus, and more) with constellation, brightness rank, and a notable fact. zodiac_constellations lists the 13 constellations the ecliptic actually crosses, presented as astronomy with a note distinguishing it from astrology. asterism_guide explains well-known star patterns that are NOT official constellations — Big Dipper, Summer Triangle, Orion's Belt, Northern Cross, and more — and how they relate to real constellations. astronomy_glossary defines core terms (asterism, circumpolar, magnitude, ecliptic, IAU, zodiac, and more). Keyless; fully local; for precise live sky positions see sibling connectors Skywatch and Cosmos.

Sources: Hand-curated original mythology and reference content, cross-checked against public IAU constellation records; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Starlore is for

"What's the story behind Orion?" "Is the Big Dipper a constellation?" "Which constellations can I see from here in winter?" "Is Ophiuchus really a 13th zodiac sign?" — the cultural, mythological, and general-reference questions about the night sky that a live star-position tool won't answer, gathered in one hand-curated connector covering all 88 official constellations.

What it does

For every one of the 88 constellations officially recognized by the International Astronomical Union: mythology and cultural origin, notable stars, and general best-viewing-season/hemisphere guidance (constellation_info); a search across names, meanings, and myth keywords (constellation_search); a qualitative seasonal guide by hemisphere (constellations_by_season); and a filter for which are visible only from the north, only from the south, or from both (constellations_by_hemisphere). About 40 of the best-known constellations — the 13 crossed by the ecliptic plus Orion, the two Bears, Cassiopeia, Perseus, Andromeda, Hercules, and more — get full original mythology written for this project, while all 88 have at least a brief, accurate entry. The fuller story stands alone too (mythology_story). Brief facts for notable named stars — Sirius, Betelgeuse, Polaris, Vega, and more — with constellation, approximate brightness rank, and a notable fact (star_info). The 13 constellations the ecliptic actually passes through, presented as astronomy with a note distinguishing it clearly from the 12-sign astrological tradition (zodiac_constellations). Well-known asterisms that are not official constellations — the Big Dipper, the Summer Triangle, Orion's Belt, the Northern Cross, and more — explained alongside the constellation(s) they belong to or span (asterism_guide). And a glossary of the core terms used throughout (astronomy_glossary).

What it is not

Starlore is a cultural and mythological reference with general, qualitative viewing guidance, not a live sky computation. It won't tell you exactly what's over your horizon at 9pm tonight, at your exact latitude — for that, precise, computed sky positions live in the sibling connectors Skywatch and Cosmos. Starlore also treats the zodiac strictly as astronomy (which constellations the ecliptic crosses) and is explicit that this is not astrology or a horoscope tool.

Tools

Constellations

constellation_info — One constellation's mythology and cultural origin story, notable stars, general best-viewing season, and which hemisphere it's best seen from. Use for "tell me about Orion", "what's the story behind Cassiopeia". Args: name.

constellation_search — Search all 88 constellations by partial name, meaning, or a keyword from their mythology or notes. Use for "which constellation is about a hunter", "find constellations with dragon myths". Args: query.

constellations_by_season — General, qualitative guide to which constellations are prominent in a given season and hemisphere. Reference-level guidance only, not a live ephemeris — exact visibility depends on latitude, date, and time of night; for precise current sky positions see the sibling connectors Skywatch or Cosmos. Use for "what constellations can I see in winter", "spring constellations in the southern hemisphere". Args: season, hemisphere.

constellations_by_hemisphere — Constellations best seen only from the northern hemisphere, only from the southern hemisphere, or from both. Use for "which constellations can I only see from the southern hemisphere". Args: hemisphere.

mythology_story — The fuller cultural and mythological story behind a constellation's name, standalone (a focused subset of constellation_info). Original prose, not lifted from any specific retelling. Use for "what's the myth behind Scorpius", "why is it called the Southern Cross". Args: constellation.

Stars & sky lore

star_info — Brief facts for a notable named star: which constellation it's in, its approximate brightness rank among naked-eye stars, and a notable fact. Use for "tell me about Betelgeuse", "how bright is Sirius". Args: name.

zodiac_constellations — The 13 constellations the ecliptic (the Sun's apparent yearly path) actually passes through, in order, with approximate current sun-transit dates. Presented as astronomy, not astrology — includes a note distinguishing this from the traditional 12-sign astrological calendar. Use for "which constellations does the sun pass through", "is Ophiuchus really the 13th zodiac sign".

asterism_guide — Well-known star patterns that are NOT official constellations — which constellation(s) they belong to or span, their stars, and a clear explanation of the asterism-vs-constellation distinction. Use for "is the Big Dipper a constellation", "what stars make up the Summer Triangle". Args: name.

Reference

astronomy_glossary — Definitions of core astronomy terms used throughout this connector (asterism, circumpolar, magnitude, ecliptic, IAU, zodiac, and more). Use for "what does circumpolar mean", "what's the ecliptic". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Starlore — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Starlore is. Starlore is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated constellation guide and mythology reference covering all 88 official IAU constellations, notable stars, the zodiac, asterisms, and an astronomy glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a constellation name, a star name, a season, a hemisphere, a search term, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Starlore is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Starlore — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Starlore connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Starlore returns a hand-curated constellation guide and mythology reference — origin stories for all 88 official IAU constellations, notable stars, the zodiac constellations, well-known asterisms, and an astronomy glossary — from data curated and reviewed at build time. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Reference and cultural content, not a live sky computation and not astrology. Starlore is a general, qualitative cultural and mythological reference. Season and hemisphere visibility guidance is approximate and does not substitute for a precise, computed sky position at a specific place and time — that is provided by other tools, including the sibling connectors Skywatch and Cosmos. The zodiac content is presented strictly as astronomy (which constellations the ecliptic crosses) and is not astrological advice or a horoscope of any kind.
  3. Independent reference. Starlore is an independent educational reference, not affiliated with or endorsed by the International Astronomical Union or any other body.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
