rule_lookup — Full detail for one Go rule or special situation: a summary, numbered explanation points, and concrete examples. Covers liberties, capture, atari, ko/superko, the suicide rule, eyes, life and death, seki, connecting/cutting, ladders, nets, snapback, self-atari, passing, game end and dead-stone removal, dame, and resignation. Use for "what's the ko rule", "what is seki", "how does capturing work". Args: topic.
scoring_method — Explains one Go scoring system in full: how the final score is computed, typical komi, which traditions use it, and the key practical difference from the others. Covers area/Chinese-style scoring, territory/Japanese-style scoring, AGA scoring, and Ing scoring. Use for "area scoring vs territory scoring", "how is komi used in Chinese rules". Args: name.
term_glossary — Definitions of Go vocabulary — sente, gote, tenuki, fuseki, joseki, moyo, thickness (atsumi), aji, tesuji, hane, kosumi, keima, semeai, yose, byo-yomi, hoshi, tengen, komoku, sanrensei, kakari, and more. Omit term to list the full glossary. Use for "what does sente mean", "what's a moyo". Args: term.
board_size_info — Describes one standard Go board size: typical game length, star-point layout, and what it's best used for (learning/blitz on 9x9, an intermediate stepping stone on 13x13, or standard tournament and ranked play on 19x19). Use for "what board size should I learn on", "how long does a 19x19 game take". Args: size.
rank_system_explainer — Explains one Go rank/rating scale: kyu ranks (beginner-to-intermediate, counting down as you improve), amateur dan ranks (advanced, counting up), professional dan ranks (a separate, stronger scale awarded by professional associations), or numeric rating systems used alongside kyu/dan labels. Use for "what's the difference between kyu and dan", "is a 1-dan pro stronger than a 1-dan amateur". Args: system.
opening_concept — Explains a whole-board Go opening or strategic concept generically: fuseki (the opening phase and its corner-side-center priority), joseki (explained only as a general concept — a fair local corner exchange — never a specific proprietary sequence), direction of play, territory vs. influence, and how opening strategy shifts in a handicap game. Use for "what is fuseki", "what does joseki mean", "should I play for territory or influence". Args: name.
handicap_guide — The standard star-point placement for a given number of handicap stones (2 through 9), plus how handicap play works (who places stones, who moves first, and how komi is typically adjusted) and a rough rank-gap guideline for choosing a handicap. Use for "how do handicap stones work", "where do 4 handicap stones go", "how many handicap stones for a 5-rank difference". Args: stone_count.
beginner_tips — A curated, importance-ordered shortlist of tips for a player new to Go — board size, liberties, life and death, joseki caution, review habits, and more. Use for "what should a beginner focus on", "tips for a new Go player". Args: count.

What Stones is. Stones is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for go (Weiqi/Baduk) rules, scoring and strategy reference — liberties, ko, life and death, komi, handicap and more. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call, the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Stones is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
Effective 25 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Stones connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").
