About

Urdu Sayings is a hand-curated, fully local reference to Urdu proverbs and idioms (muhaware/kahawatein). saying_of_the_day returns one saying, the same for everyone each day. search_sayings does a keyword search across Urdu text, transliteration, meanings and theme. sayings_by_theme lists every saying under one theme (Human Nature, Wisdom & Caution, Effort & Reward, Speech & Silence, Family & Community, Fate/Patience & Consequence). explain_saying gives full detail for one saying: Urdu script, transliteration, literal meaning, figurative meaning and a usage note showing a real situation where it's said. random_saying returns a different one each call. similar_sayings finds other sayings sharing a theme and figurative idea. list_themes lists every theme with its count. glossary defines terms like kahawat, zarb-ul-masal, muhaawara, Nastaliq and izafat. Every entry was checked against a published Urdu proverb source before being added. Urdu is spoken across many faiths and regions, and this reference never presents it as belonging to one community. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls.

Sources: Each saying cross-checked against published Urdu proverb/idiom collections and Urdu-language reference sites before being written in, prioritizing well-documented, widely-known sayings over obscure or contested forms; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Urdu Sayings is for

The question that comes up whenever a piece of Urdu wisdom is quoted — what does that proverb actually say in Urdu script, how do you say it out loud, and what does it really mean when someone uses it — answered from one hand-curated, verified reference, instead of guessed-at transliterations or half-remembered lines.

What it does

77 hand-curated Urdu proverbs and idioms (muhaware/kahawatein), each written in genuine Urdu (Perso-Arabic Nastaliq) script with a romanized transliteration, a literal meaning, a figurative meaning, and a usage note describing a real situation where it's said (explain_saying); a keyword search across every saying's Urdu text, transliteration, meaning and theme (search_sayings); sayings grouped into six themes — Human Nature, Wisdom & Caution, Effort & Reward, Speech & Silence, Family & Community, and Fate/Patience & Consequence (sayings_by_theme, list_themes); a saying of the day, the same for everyone (saying_of_the_day), and a different random one each call (random_saying); a way to find other sayings that share a theme and a similar figurative idea (similar_sayings); and a glossary of terms relevant to Urdu proverbs — kahawat, zarb-ul-masal, muhaawara, Nastaliq, izafat (glossary).

What it is not

Not a claim that these 77 sayings are the only Urdu proverbs, or that Urdu belongs to any one religion or region — Urdu is spoken by people of many faiths across Pakistan, North India and beyond, and this reference deliberately does not frame it otherwise. Every saying here is traditional/folk material, verified against a published proverb or idiom collection before being added — none were invented from memory, and none touch caste or politically loaded content. Not a substitute for hearing these sayings from an actual Urdu speaker, whose intonation and regional variation this text-only reference can't capture. Fully local, zero upstream calls, nothing stored.

list_themes — Every theme with how many sayings are tagged under it. Use for "what themes of Urdu proverbs do you cover".

Understand

explain_saying — Full detail for one saying: Urdu script, transliteration, literal meaning, figurative meaning, and a usage note describing a real situation where it's said. Use for "explain the Urdu saying about sour grapes", "what does 'ہتھیلی پر سرسوں نہیں جمتی' mean". Args: saying.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Urdu Sayings — Privacy Policy

Effective 25 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Urdu Sayings is. Urdu Sayings is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated Urdu proverbs and idioms reference. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a saying, a theme name, a search keyword, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Urdu Sayings is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. A reference, not a claim of authority. Urdu Sayings is an independent reference tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any government, institution, publisher, or organization. It is not a substitute for hearing these sayings from an actual Urdu speaker.
  3. Urdu belongs to no single community. Urdu is spoken by people of many faiths and regions; this Service does not present it, or any saying in it, as belonging exclusively to one community.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
