Real word-ladder puzzles with a genuine BFS solver — change one letter at a time
Unify Dynamics LLC
Real questions, and the tools your agent calls to answer them.
new_puzzlenew_puzzlesolvesolvesubmit_stepget_hintrenderWord Ladder generates and validates real word-ladder puzzles. new_puzzle picks a solvable start/end pair of a given letter length (optionally aiming for a target number of steps) and returns the puzzle state. submit_step takes that state plus the player's next word, checks it's the right length, a real dictionary word, exactly one letter different from the current last word, and not already used, then appends it and flags whether the target was reached. get_hint runs a real BFS from the current position to the target and reports the true shortest remaining distance plus the first letter of one valid next word. solve is a standalone BFS solver: give it any two same-length words and it reports whether a ladder connects them and, if so, the shortest one and its length. render turns a state into a human-readable chain. Fully stateless: the caller holds and passes the puzzle state between calls. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.
Sources: Bundled dictionary is the public-domain ENABLE word list (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon), cleaned and lightly filtered. Fully local, zero upstream calls.
The publisher, Unify Dynamics LLC, states that tool inputs are processed in memory and not retained.
5 tools, grouped by job. Every one is read-only or compute-only.

A real, playable word-ladder puzzle: turn a start word into a target word of the same length by changing one letter at a time, with every step along the way a real dictionary word (COLD -> WOLD -> WORD -> WARD -> WARM). Fully local — a genuine bundled dictionary and a real BFS solver, no upstream calls.
new_puzzle picks a solvable start/end pair of a given letter length (optionally aiming for a difficulty
in number of steps) and returns the puzzle state. submit_step takes that state plus the player's next
word, checks it's the right length, a real dictionary word, exactly one letter different from the current
last word, and not already used — then appends it and flags whether the target was reached. get_hint
runs a real breadth-first search from the current position to the target and reports the true shortest
remaining distance plus the first letter of one valid next word, without spoiling the whole path. solve
is a standalone BFS solver: give it any two same-length words and it reports whether a ladder connects
them and, if so, the shortest one and its length. render turns a state into a human-readable chain.
This connector keeps no server-side session. new_puzzle returns a state object; every other tool takes
that state (or the one returned by the previous call) and returns an updated copy. The calling assistant
is responsible for holding onto it between turns.
Not connected to any account, leaderboard, or third-party word-game service — the dictionary is a bundled, public-domain word list (ENABLE), the solver is a real graph search run entirely on the server that answers your request, and nothing about a puzzle in progress is stored once the response is sent.
Effective 27 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.
What Word Ladder is. Word Ladder is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf to run a local word-ladder puzzle game. Each tool call receives the current puzzle state (or, for the standalone solver, just two words) and returns a result — there is no account, login, or save file.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a word length, a puzzle state object (start, target, and chain so far), or a pair of words to solve — plus the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled dictionary and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all — and no puzzle state or submitted word is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything. Each request is answered independently; the state you send us is used only to compute that one response and is discarded immediately after.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your name, an account identifier, or any persistent player profile — there is none. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the dictionary is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Word Ladder is a general-audience word game operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Never send us passwords, account numbers or ID numbers. Word Ladder never asks for them.
