About

Brew has two halves. A live brewery directory backed by Open Brewery DB (keyless): brewery_search by name, city, state or type (micro, nano, regional, brewpub, large, planning, bar, contract, proprietor, closed); brewery_by_id for one record's full detail; breweries_near for the closest breweries to a coordinate; random_brewery for a surprise pick. And fully local homebrewing tools, zero network calls: abv_calculator from original and final gravity (simple and precise formulas); ibu_estimate from a hop schedule using the Tinseth formula; srm_color_calculator from a grain bill using the Morey equation, backed by a bundled grain-color table; priming_sugar_calculator for bottle carbonation, accounting for CO2 already dissolved at the beer's temperature; beer_style_guide with typical OG/FG/ABV/IBU/SRM ranges for 26 common styles; and style_match to rank which styles your own numbers best fit. A reference and calculator tool, not encouragement to drink; for legal home use where permitted.

What Brew is for

Finding a brewery — by name, city, state, type, or the closest ones to a coordinate — and the homebrewing math that otherwise means digging up a formula or a spreadsheet: what's my ABV, how bitter will this batch actually be, what color will this grain bill make, how much sugar goes in the bottle, and which style does this beer land in.

What it does

A live brewery directory backed by Open Brewery DB (keyless, mostly US breweries with some international coverage): brewery_search by name, city, state and/or type (micro, nano, regional, brewpub, large, planning, bar, contract, proprietor, closed); brewery_by_id for one record's full address, coordinates, phone and website; breweries_near for the closest breweries to a latitude/longitude; random_brewery for a surprise pick. Then four local calculators, zero network calls: abv_calculator from original and final gravity, giving both the simple rule-of-thumb formula and a more accurate one for strong beers; ibu_estimate from a hop schedule (weight, alpha acid %, boil time) using the Tinseth formula; srm_color_calculator from a grain bill (weight and °Lovibond, or a name from a bundled grain-color table) using the Morey equation; priming_sugar_calculator for bottle carbonation, accounting for CO2 already dissolved in the beer at its current temperature. Finally beer_style_guide, a hand-curated reference of 26 common beer styles with typical OG/FG/ABV/IBU/SRM ranges, and style_match, which ranks those styles against your own measured or computed numbers.

What it is not

Not a beer-rating app, an inventory tracker, or a substitute for a hydrometer, refractometer or scale — the calculators are only as good as the numbers you give them. The brewery directory is a free, community-maintained, user-submitted dataset: hours, ownership and whether a brewery is still open can be wrong or stale, so verify before visiting. The style guide gives typical ranges written in our own words, loosely informed by common homebrewing convention — it is not any single organization's official competition guidelines, and plenty of real beers (including award-winning ones) fall outside these ranges. This is a reference and calculator tool, not encouragement to drink; homebrewing guidance is for legal home use where permitted, and doesn't cover local rules on brewing quantities, licensing or age limits — check those yourself.

Tools

Brewery directory

brewery_search — Search Open Brewery DB (live) for breweries by name, city, state and/or type. Use for "find breweries in Denver", "micro breweries in Vermont", "search for Stone brewery". Args: query, city, state, brewery_type, limit.

brewery_by_id — Full detail for one brewery by its Open Brewery DB id: name, type, full address, coordinates, phone and website. Use after brewery_search to get more detail on a specific result. Args: id.

breweries_near — The closest breweries to a latitude/longitude, nearest first (Open Brewery DB's distance sort). Use for "breweries near me" once you have coordinates. Args: latitude, longitude, limit.

random_brewery — One random brewery from Open Brewery DB. Use for "surprise me with a brewery", "pick a random brewery".

Homebrew calculators

abv_calculator — Alcohol by volume from original and final gravity, both the simple homebrew rule-of-thumb ((OG−FG)×131.25) and a more accurate formula for strong beers. Use for "ABV for OG 1.060 FG 1.012". Args: original_gravity, final_gravity.

ibu_estimate — Estimated bitterness in IBU using the Tinseth formula, given a hop schedule (weight in oz, alpha-acid %, boil time in minutes per addition), batch size and original gravity. Use for "IBU for 1 oz 6% AA hops boiled 60 minutes in 5 gallons at 1.050". Args: hop_additions, batch_size_gal, original_gravity.

srm_color_calculator — Estimated beer color in SRM using the Morey equation, from a grain bill (weight in lb, plus either a grain's own °Lovibond or a name from the bundled grain-color table). Use for "color of 9 lb pale malt and 1 lb chocolate malt in 5.5 gallons". Args: grain_bill, batch_size_gal.

priming_sugar_calculator — Grams (and ounces) of priming sugar to reach a target CO2 level for bottle conditioning, accounting for CO2 already dissolved at the beer's temperature. Use for "priming sugar for 5 gallons at 2.5 volumes at 68°F". Args: batch_size_gal, target_co2_volumes, beer_temp_f, sugar_type.

Style guide

beer_style_guide — Typical OG/FG/ABV/IBU/SRM ranges and a short description for 26 common beer styles, or the full list. Use for "what's a typical IBU range for a saison", "list beer styles", "describe a Vienna lager". Args: style.

style_match — Given any combination of OG, FG, IBU and SRM, ranks the bundled beer styles by how well they fit — use it after computing stats with the other tools, or with your own measured numbers. Use for "my beer is 1.052/1.010, 42 IBU, 8 SRM — what style is that". Args: og, fg, ibu, srm.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Brew — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Brew is. Brew is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for brewery lookups and homebrewing math. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for the tool you asked for — a brewery name, city, state or type, a coordinate, or gravity/hop/grain/carbonation numbers.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call, the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Lookups are forwarded or computed, not stored. Brewery searches are passed to Open Brewery DB with your search terms or coordinates; the calculators and beer-style guide run entirely on our server from bundled reference data. We do not record your searches, your location, or your recipes, and we do not build a profile of you. Nothing you send is stored, logged in request bodies, or used to train anything. Brewery-lookup responses are cached in memory for up to an hour to reduce load on Open Brewery DB; calculator results are never cached (they're recomputed fresh every time).

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, contacts, or any account credentials. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. Open Brewery DB (api.openbrewerydb.org) receives your search terms or coordinates and our server's IP address, never yours. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Brew is a general-audience reference and calculator tool; we knowingly collect no personal data from anyone, and nothing about it is designed to encourage alcohol consumption by anyone, of any age.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Brew — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Brew connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Brew returns brewery listings from a public directory and computes homebrewing calculations and a reference style guide from bundled data. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Sources and licences. Brewery data from Open Brewery DB (api.openbrewerydb.org), a free, community-maintained, keyless API; homebrewing formulas (Tinseth for IBU, Morey for SRM color, standard carbonation and fermentation-stoichiometry math for priming sugar) are published, widely-used homebrewing calculations, implemented independently; the beer-style guide is editorial content of Unify Dynamics LLC.
  3. Reference tool, not brewing or drinking advice. Calculator results depend entirely on the numbers you provide and are estimates, not guarantees — verify critical steps (like carbonation levels, to avoid over-pressurized bottles) with your own judgment and equipment. The brewery directory is user-submitted and may be incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong; confirm hours, address and whether a brewery is still open before visiting. Nothing here is an endorsement of alcohol consumption, and homebrewing is subject to your local laws on quantities, licensing and age — those govern, not this Service.
  4. Acceptable use. Do not use the Service to bulk-scrape Open Brewery DB or to circumvent rate limits. Automated use within the published limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your search terms or coordinates go to Open Brewery DB and everything else is computed here; nothing is stored.
  7. Attribution. Open Brewery DB (api.openbrewerydb.org).
  8. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  9. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service, including any loss arising from a homebrewing calculation. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  10. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
