About

Ensign is a fully local world flags, national symbols, and vexillology reference. flag_description describes one country's flag -- colors, composition, symbols, proportions, adoption date and well-documented symbolism -- entirely in words. flag_search finds flags by a color, symbol, or pattern keyword. flags_by_color lists every flag featuring a given color; flags_by_pattern lists flags matching a design pattern such as tricolour, saltire, Nordic cross, canton, or a single-color field with an emblem. color_symbolism_guide covers general, widely-documented vexillological color patterns, never invented per-flag meanings. national_symbol_info gives a country's anthem name and, where well-documented, its national bird, flower and motto. vexillology_glossary defines fourteen real terms (canton, fess, pale, bend, saltire, chevron, tricolour, fimbriation, field, charge, roundel, Nordic cross, hoist and fly, defacement). flag_design_principles_guide covers NAVA's five basic principles of flag design plus verified general facts. search covers everything at once. Keyless; fully local, zero upstream calls; covers only internationally uncontested UN member states, described purely as visual/historical designs.

Sources: Hand-curated world-flags and vexillology reference, verified via national flag laws, government/embassy sources, and standard vexillology references (Wikipedia flag articles, Flags of the World) as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Ensign is for

An "ensign" is a flag flown to show identity or allegiance. This connector is a fully local, text-only reference for national flags, vexillology (the study of flags), and national symbols, for anyone who wants an accurate description of what a flag looks like, why its colors or symbols are commonly explained the way they are, or what a term like "saltire" or "canton" means. It covers a broad, globally-diverse selection of United Nations member states with internationally uncontested sovereignty and flag design, spanning every populated continent -- Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa and Oceania.

What it does

Look up one country's flag -- colors, composition, symbols, proportions, adoption date and, where well-documented, symbolic meaning, described entirely in words since this is a text-only tool with no image rendering (flag_description); search flags by a color, symbol, or pattern keyword (flag_search); list every flag featuring a given color (flags_by_color) or matching a design pattern such as tricolour, saltire, Nordic cross, canton, or a single-color field with an emblem (flags_by_pattern); read general, widely-documented vexillological color-symbolism patterns -- what red, blue, green and other colors commonly represent across many flags, never an invented meaning for one specific flag (color_symbolism_guide); look up a country's national anthem name and, where well-documented, its national bird, flower and motto (national_symbol_info); browse a fourteen-term glossary of real heraldic/vexillological vocabulary -- canton, fess, pale, bend, saltire, chevron, tricolour, fimbriation, field, charge, roundel, Nordic cross, hoist and fly, and defacement (vexillology_glossary); read NAVA's "Good Flag, Bad Flag" five basic principles of flag design plus verified general flag-design facts, such as the world's only non-quadrilateral national flag and the two square national flags (flag_design_principles_guide); and run a general keyword search across every reference entry (search).

What it is not

Ensign describes flags purely as visual and historical designs -- colors, shapes, symbols, adoption dates -- never as commentary on any border, territorial claim, or political dispute. It deliberately covers only internationally uncontested UN member states, so it does not include, and will not describe, any flag or territory whose sovereignty or recognition is actively disputed. Symbolic meanings are stated only where they are well-documented (an official government explanation, a long-standing widely-cited tradition, or a design detail attested in standard vexillology references) and are clearly distinguished from unofficial or popular explanations -- this connector does not invent or guess at a flag's symbolism. It is also a text-only reference: it describes what a flag looks like in words rather than rendering or displaying an image of one, and it is a hand-curated reference as of its stated build date rather than a live feed -- flag laws are occasionally revised by governments, so check an official source for anything that must be legally exact (for example, a precise color specification needed for manufacture).

Tools

Flags

flag_description — A country's national flag described entirely in words: colors, composition/layout, symbols, official proportions, adoption date, and (where well-documented) its symbolic meaning. Text-only -- no image is rendered. Use for "describe the flag of Kenya", "what does the Brazilian flag look like". Args: country.

flag_search — Search flags by a color, symbol, or design-pattern keyword against each flag's own colors, symbols, patterns and description. Use for "which flags have a star", "which flags show an eagle". Args: query.

flags_by_color — Every bundled flag whose design includes the given color. Use for "which countries have a green flag", "list flags with the color gold". Args: color.

flags_by_pattern — Every bundled flag matching a design pattern -- tricolour/bicolour, cross, saltire, Nordic (Scandinavian) cross, canton, or a single-color field with a central emblem, among others. Use for "which flags are tricolours", "which countries use a saltire". Args: pattern.

Symbolism & Symbols

color_symbolism_guide — General, widely-documented vexillological patterns for what a color commonly represents across many flags (courage, the sky, land, and so on) -- general tendencies, never an invented specific meaning for one flag. Use for "what does red usually mean on a flag", "why are so many flags red white and blue". Args: color.

national_symbol_info — A country's national anthem name and, where well-documented, its official or widely-recognized national bird, flower, and motto -- factual reference only, with unofficial/traditional items clearly labeled as such. Use for "does Japan have a national flower", "what's Kenya's national motto". Args: country.

Reference

vexillology_glossary — A fourteen-term glossary of real vexillological/heraldic terminology used to describe flag design. Use for "what is a saltire", "what does canton mean on a flag", "what is fimbriation". Args: term.

flag_design_principles_guide — General, verified flag-design facts: NAVA's "Good Flag, Bad Flag" five basic principles of flag design, plus notable documented facts (the world's only non-quadrilateral national flag, the two square national flags, the oldest continuously used flag design, and common design "families" like Nordic crosses and Pan-African colors). Use for "what makes a good flag design", "is there a standard flag shape".

Search

search — General search across every reference entry in this connector -- countries/flags, the vexillology glossary, color-symbolism patterns, and flag-design facts. Use when you're not sure which specific tool fits, e.g. "saltire", "Ethiopia", "pan-african colors". Args: query.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Ensign — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Ensign is. Ensign is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a fully local world flags, national symbols, and vexillology reference: flag descriptions, color-symbolism patterns, national symbol facts, a vexillology glossary, and flag-design principles. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a country name, a color, a symbol or pattern keyword, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Ensign is a general-audience reference service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Ensign — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Ensign connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Ensign returns a fully local, hand-curated world flags, national symbols, and vexillology reference — flag composition and color descriptions in words, color-symbolism patterns, national symbol facts, a vexillology glossary, and flag-design principles — from data hand-curated and verified at build time. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Reference only, not a live government feed or an image renderer. Ensign is an independent reference tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any government or flag authority. Flag descriptions are stated as of this Service's build date and can be changed by a government revising its flag law at any time; Ensign is text-only and never renders or displays a flag image. Symbolic meanings are described only where well-documented and are labeled as official, traditional, or unofficial as appropriate.
  3. Neutrality. Ensign covers only internationally uncontested UN member states and describes flags purely as visual and historical designs — never as a comment on any border, territorial claim, or political dispute.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
