About

Hive bundles backyard beekeeping reference into one connector, hand-curated and computed locally with no upstream calls. hive_type_info compares Langstroth, top-bar (Kenyan/Tanzanian) and Warré hives — structure, pros/cons, and who each suits. bee_breed_info covers Italian, Carniolan, Buckfast, Russian and Caucasian bees — temperament, productivity, swarming tendency, overwintering, and common use; breed_search finds one by partial name or trait like 'cold climate' or 'gentle'. seasonal_calendar_guide covers spring buildup, summer management, fall preparation and winter survival, or the full year at once. colony_health_guide is deliberately non-diagnostic education on the varroa mite (the single biggest real threat to managed colonies) plus nosema, small hive beetle, wax moth, American foulbrood, queenlessness and robbing — it never names a treatment product or dose, and always points to a local extension office or experienced beekeeper for anything suspected in a real hive. honey_harvesting_guide covers readiness signs (capped percentage, moisture/refractometer), timing, and the extraction process for frame-based versus fixed-comb hives. equipment_reference covers the smoker, hive tool, suit/veil/gloves, extractor and other common gear. starting_a_hive_guide covers checking local ordinances, time/physical/cost commitment (no specific pricing), and good first steps for a beginner. beekeeping_glossary defines terms like queen excluder, brood box, super and propolis. Keyless; nothing stored; general hobbyist beekeeping education, not veterinary/apiary-disease diagnosis or treatment dosing.

Sources: Hand-curated from public beekeeping references (extension services, USDA-ARS research, standard apiculture references) and verified via spot-check as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Hive is for

The questions every new (or curious) backyard beekeeper has — which hive should I even get, is this bee breed gentle enough for my yard, what am I supposed to be doing with my hive this month, what's actually wrong with a sick-looking colony — answered from one hand-curated hobbyist beekeeping reference, without hunting through a dozen contradictory forum threads.

What it does

Structure, pros/cons, and who each suits for the three common backyard hive types — Langstroth, top-bar (Kenyan/Tanzanian), and Warré (hive_type_info); one honey bee breed/race's temperament, productivity, swarming tendency and common use — Italian, Carniolan, Buckfast, Russian, Caucasian (bee_breed_info); a search across breed names and traits like "cold climate" or "varroa resistant" (breed_search); what a beekeeper does each season — spring buildup, summer management, fall preparation, winter survival, or the full year at once (seasonal_calendar_guide); general, non-diagnostic education on colony-health topics led by the varroa mite — the single biggest real threat to managed colonies — plus nosema, small hive beetle, wax moth, American foulbrood, queenlessness and robbing, always pointing to a local extension office or experienced beekeeper for anything suspected in an actual hive (colony_health_guide); honey-harvesting readiness signs, timing, and the extraction process for frame-based versus fixed-comb hives (honey_harvesting_guide); a reference on common equipment and PPE — smoker, hive tool, suit/veil/gloves, extractor, and more (equipment_reference); general beginner considerations — checking local ordinances, the time/physical/cost commitment, and good first steps, with no specific pricing (starting_a_hive_guide); and a glossary of common beekeeping terms like queen excluder, brood box, super and propolis (beekeeping_glossary).

What it is not

Not a substitute for hands-on mentorship, a local beekeeping association, or your area's specific ordinances. colony_health_guide is deliberately non-diagnostic — it never names a treatment product, dose, or schedule, and it never confirms or rules out disease in a real colony, because that requires an actual look at the hive. Anything that seems abnormal in a colony — a heavy mite count, a spotty brood pattern, a suspected disease — always deserves a second opinion from a local agricultural extension office, apiary inspector, or an experienced beekeeper, not a lookup here. starting_a_hive_guide deliberately avoids quoting specific prices or claiming to know your local rules, since both vary enormously by region and change over time.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Hive — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Hive is. Hive is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated backyard beekeeping reference: hive types, bee breeds, the seasonal management calendar, colony health basics, honey harvesting, equipment/PPE reference, and beginner start-up guidance. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a hive type, bee breed, season, colony-health topic, or equipment item — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any information about a specific hive, colony, or its location, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Hive is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Hive — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Hive connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Hive returns a hand-curated backyard beekeeping reference — hive type comparisons, bee breed profiles, the seasonal management calendar, colony health basics, honey harvesting guidance, equipment/PPE reference, and beginner start-up guidance — from data bundled with the server. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General education, not veterinary, apiary-inspection, or legal advice. Hive provides general beekeeping information for hobbyist reference only. It is not veterinary or apiary-disease diagnosis: its colony-health content is deliberately non-diagnostic, never names a treatment product, dose, or schedule, and never confirms or rules out disease or infestation in any specific colony. If you suspect disease, a heavy mite load, or anything abnormal in a hive, contact your local agricultural extension office, a state/provincial apiary inspector, or an experienced beekeeper or beekeeping association immediately rather than relying on the Service. Its notes on local ordinances are general orientation, not legal advice — check your own jurisdiction's current rules.
  3. Individual results vary. Real colonies, climates, and local regulations vary — a hive-type comparison, a seasonal task list, or a cost factor is a starting point, not a guarantee of a particular outcome or of what applies in your specific location.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss — including harm to a colony or a person — arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
