The question that comes up whenever Indian cooking gets specific — what does asafoetida actually taste like, what's really in garam masala, is Kashmiri chili hot, what can I use instead of curry leaves — answered from one hand-curated encyclopedia, without a scroll through inconsistent blog posts or a spice-rack guessing game.
Description, flavor profile, common culinary uses, whole-vs-ground form notes and storage tips for 37
individual spices, from everyday staples (cumin, coriander, turmeric, black pepper) to specialty items (mace,
long pepper, shahi jeera, four distinct chili varieties) (spice_info); search across names, Hindi/regional
aliases, flavor and use text (spice_search); composition, flavor profile, common uses and regional variants
for 12 common blends — garam masala, chaat masala, sambar podi, rasam podi, panch phoron, goda masala, chana
masala, biryani masala, tandoori masala, pav bhaji masala, kitchen king masala, and Kolhapuri masala
(spice_blend_info); reasonable substitutes when a spice isn't on hand, with notes on how close each stand-in
really is (substitution_guide); commonly used spices by dish category — curries, rice dishes, snacks/chaat,
desserts/sweets, or pickles (spice_by_dish_type); a qualitative mild-to-very-hot heat reference for the
chilies and peppers used in Indian cooking, deliberately without asserting precise Scoville numbers
(heat_level_guide); general storage and shelf-life guidance, since whole and ground forms of the same spice
keep very differently (storage_shelf_life_guide); characteristic spice use across seven major Indian regions
— Punjab, Bengal, Kerala/South India, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kashmir, and Rajasthan (regional_spice_profile);
and a glossary of spice-and-technique terms — tadka/tempering, bhuna, what "garam masala" actually means, whole
vs ground, hing, and more (spice_glossary).
Not a recipe generator or a live shopping assistant — Masala (Spice Blend) is a reference encyclopedia, not a meal planner, and it makes no upstream calls of any kind. Heat levels are described qualitatively (mild, medium, hot, very hot) rather than with precise Scoville figures, because reliable, verified Scoville numbers for many Indian chili varieties are inconsistent across sources; the goal here is a trustworthy relative sense of heat, not a number that looks precise but isn't verifiable. Blend compositions describe the typical, widely recognized version of each mix — home and commercial recipes both vary by region, family and brand, and the entries say so rather than presenting one recipe as definitive.
spice_info — One spice's description, flavor profile, common culinary uses, whole-vs-ground form notes, and storage tips — covers 37 individual spices. Use for "what does cardamom taste like", "what is hing", "how is turmeric used". Args: name.

Heat is described qualitatively rather than with precise Scoville numbers. Use for "how hot is Kashmiri chili", "what's the mildest Indian chili", "is Guntur chili hotter than Kashmiri chili".
storage_shelf_life_guide — General storage and shelf-life guidance for a spice — whole and ground forms of the same spice keep very differently. Use for "how long does ground cumin last", "should I store whole or ground nutmeg", "does turmeric powder go bad". Args: spice.

What Masala (Spice Blend) is. Masala (Spice Blend) is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated Indian spice encyclopedia — spice profiles, blend compositions, substitutions, dish-type pairings, a heat-level guide, storage guidance, regional profiles, and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a spice or blend name, a search query, a dish type, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Masala (Spice Blend) is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
