About

PDFHandy answers the 'how do I do X to a PDF' questions, computed locally with no upstream calls. pdf_howto covers ten common tasks (merge, split, compress, add_signature, fill_form, redact, rotate, extract_pages, add_watermark, ocr) with real steps and the mistakes people actually make, like treating a drawn black box as redaction. pdf_a_vs_standard explains why archival PDF/A forbids encryption, JavaScript and un-embedded fonts that a standard PDF allows, with detail on a specific variant (PDF/A-1b/1a/2b/2a/2u/3b/3a/3u) on request. diagnose_large_pdf is a checklist of real causes of PDF bloat plus a computed average-KB-per-page figure and rough size tier from a file size and page count. This connector never reads, creates, or modifies a PDF file. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

What PDFHandy is for

The "how do I do X to a PDF" questions — how to actually merge, split, compress, sign, fill, redact, rotate, extract pages from, watermark, or OCR a PDF — plus what PDF/A actually is versus a standard PDF, and a diagnostic checklist for why a particular PDF turned out so large. PDFHandy is guidance only: it never opens, edits, or stores an actual PDF file.

What it does

How-to — pdf_howto gives real steps and genuine caveats for ten common PDF tasks, including the ones people get wrong (a black box drawn over text is not redaction unless the underlying text is actually deleted; a pasted signature image proves nothing about who signed). PDF/A — pdf_a_vs_standard explains why archival PDF/A exists (no encryption, no JavaScript, no un-embedded fonts, nothing that depends on software that might not exist in 20 years) versus a standard, feature-rich PDF, plus detail on a specific variant (PDF/A-1b/1a/2b/2a/2u/3b/3a/3u) if asked. Diagnostics — diagnose_large_pdf is a checklist of the real causes of PDF bloat (scanned pages, image resolution, embedded fonts, uncompressed images, revision history), and computes an average-KB-per-page figure with a rough size tier when you give a file size and page count.

What it is not

PDFHandy does not read, create, merge, split, compress, sign, redact, or otherwise touch any actual PDF file — it answers questions about how to do those things, using a different tool of your choosing. It also isn't legal advice on when a digital signature is required, or a certification that a given PDF/A file is actually valid PDF/A — for that, run it through a real PDF/A validator.

Privacy policy

PDFHandy — Privacy Policy

Effective 28 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What PDFHandy is. PDFHandy is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for PDF task guidance, a PDF/A explainer, and a large-PDF diagnostic checklist. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the values needed for that one answer.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — the task name you're asking about, a PDF/A variant name, or a file size and page count for the size diagnostic — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

PDFHandy never receives your PDF. This connector does not accept, read, process, or store any actual PDF file — it only answers questions from hand-curated reference text and simple arithmetic on the numbers you describe (like a file size and page count). There is no file upload path in this connector at all.

Everything is computed on our server and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party, and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, contacts, or account credentials. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — every tool is computed locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. PDFHandy is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

PDFHandy — Terms of Service

Effective 28 September 2026. These terms govern use of the PDFHandy connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. PDFHandy returns hand-curated guidance on PDF tasks (merge, split, compress, sign, fill, redact, rotate, extract, watermark, OCR), an explanation of PDF/A versus standard PDF, and a diagnostic checklist plus computed size tier for oversized PDFs. It does not read, create, or modify any PDF file. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Guidance, not a service performed for you. PDFHandy explains how to do something to a PDF; it does not do it. You are responsible for choosing and using an appropriate PDF tool to actually carry out the task, and for verifying the result — especially for redaction, where a mistake can expose the exact information you meant to remove.
  3. Not legal or compliance advice. Guidance on signatures, redaction, and PDF/A is general technical information, not legal advice about when a digital signature, redaction, or archival format is legally required for your situation.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered on our server and nothing is stored, and no PDF file is ever sent to us.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service, including any loss from incomplete redaction performed with a tool other than this one. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
  10. Contact. Unify Dynamics LLC · agent@connectorbay.com · https://connectorbay.com/pdfhandy
