Home Wi-Fi troubleshooting, band/channel guide, router placement, and a real download-time calculator

Real questions, and the tools your agent calls to answer them.
wifi_troubleshootwifi_troubleshootband_channel_guideband_channel_guiderouter_placement_guidedownload_time_calculatorWifiOptimize is a fully local home Wi-Fi/router-optimization reference toolkit. wifi_troubleshoot walks a genuinely differentiated diagnostic decision tree for six distinct symptoms — slow in one room, frequent disconnects, slow everywhere, can't connect at all, smart home devices dropping, and slow at a specific time of day — each with its own likely causes, diagnostic steps, and fixes. band_channel_guide explains real 2.4GHz vs 5GHz vs 6GHz tradeoffs: range vs speed vs interference, and which channels are actually non-overlapping. router_placement_guide gives physics-informed placement guidance: central location, elevation, avoiding obstructions and interference sources, antenna orientation, and when to use a mesh system with wired backhaul. download_time_calculator computes a real download time from a file size and connection speed, correctly dividing the bits-based speed by 8 to get a bytes-based rate before computing time — the classic source of error in this calculation — plus a realistic-throughput range. Every response carries a disclaimer noting this is general home-networking reference only, not a diagnosis of any specific router or home. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.
Sources: Computed locally / hand-curated from widely-published Wi-Fi/IEEE 802.11 band and channel conventions and general RF-propagation physics; fully local, zero upstream calls.

troubleshooting. It does not know your specific router model, your home's layout, or your ISP's actual line
quality — guidance is commonly-cited general practice, not a diagnosis of your setup. Every tool response
carries a disclaimer field restating this.
The questions that come up when your Wi-Fi is misbehaving and you want to understand why before calling your ISP or buying new hardware — why is it slow in one room but fine elsewhere, why does it keep disconnecting, why is the whole house slow, why won't a device connect, why do smart-home gadgets keep dropping, should you use 2.4GHz or 5GHz, where should the router actually go — answered with a genuinely differentiated diagnostic decision tree and real, transparent math, with no upstream calls and nothing about the user stored.
A symptom-based troubleshooting decision tree covering six distinct symptoms — slow in one room, frequent
disconnects, slow everywhere, can't connect at all, smart-home devices dropping, and slow at a specific time of
day — each with its own likely causes, diagnostic steps, and fixes, because these problems have genuinely
different root causes and different solutions (wifi_troubleshoot); a real 2.4GHz vs 5GHz vs 6GHz explainer
covering range, speed, interference sources, and which channels are actually non-overlapping
(band_channel_guide); a physics-informed router-placement guide covering central location, elevation,
obstructions, interference sources, and antenna orientation (router_placement_guide); and a real
Mbps-to-download-time calculator that correctly divides a bits-based connection speed by 8 to get a bytes-based
rate before computing time against a file size, plus a realistic-throughput range
(download_time_calculator).
Not your router's manufacturer, not your ISP, and not a live speed test or network scanner — it cannot see your
actual signal strength, channel occupancy, or line speed. download_time_calculator does genuine arithmetic from
the numbers you give it, but it is an estimate, not a live measurement; real throughput varies with network
conditions at the moment of transfer. Troubleshooting and placement guidance reflect commonly-cited general
practice across typical home setups, not a certified fix for any specific router or floor plan.
wifi_troubleshoot — A genuinely differentiated diagnostic decision tree by symptom — likely causes, diagnostic steps, and fixes that actually differ between a localized dead zone, network-wide slowness, random disconnects, a device that can't join at all, dropping IoT devices, and peak-hour slowdowns. Args: symptom.
band_channel_guide — Real 2.4GHz vs 5GHz vs 6GHz tradeoffs: range vs speed vs interference from other devices and networks, which channels are actually non-overlapping, and what each band is best used for. Args: band (optional).
router_placement_guide — Physics-informed router-placement guidance: central location, elevation, avoiding obstructions and interference sources, antenna orientation, and when to use a mesh system with wired backhaul instead.
download_time_calculator — Computes a real download time from a file size and a connection speed, correctly handling the bits-vs-bytes distinction, plus a realistic-throughput range. Args: file_size, file_size_unit, speed, speed_unit.
ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found).Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.agent@connectorbay.com · connectorbay.com/wifiOptimize/support

What WifiOptimize is. WifiOptimize is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a home Wi-Fi/router-optimization reference toolkit: a troubleshooting decision tree, a band/channel explainer, a router-placement guide, and a download-time calculator. WifiOptimize is general home-networking reference only. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup or calculation.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — for example a described symptom, a band name, a file size and unit, or a connection speed and unit — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered locally and nothing is stored. WifiOptimize makes zero upstream/network calls: every response is either bundled reference data or arithmetic computed directly from the arguments given. No request is forwarded to any third party, and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. We do not know your router model, your home's layout, your network name or password, or your actual internet speed. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and every calculation runs locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. WifiOptimize is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
