About

Thread is a fully local sewing and textile reference and calculator toolkit. fabric_yardage_estimator gives a rough fabric yardage estimate for a garment type and size, adjusted for fabric width. seam_allowance_guide covers standard seam allowance by technique (quilting, garment sewing, French seam, upholstery, and more). needle_thread_guide recommends needle size/type and thread weight for 16 fabric types. size_conversion converts clothing sizes across US/UK/EU/India/Japan for women's, men's and kids' categories (an approximate, general-industry mapping). hem_allowance_guide covers standard hem allowance by garment type. pattern_grading_estimate roughly estimates how a measurement changes between two pattern sizes using general published grade-rule increments. interfacing_guide recommends interfacing weight/type for a fabric and application combination. zipper_length_guide gives typical zipper length by garment type. sewing_glossary defines common sewing terms. measurement_convert converts between inches, cm, mm, yards and meters. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

Sources: Hand-curated, general sewing-industry reference knowledge, cross-checked against public size-chart references as noted; fully local, zero upstream calls

What Thread is for

The small arithmetic and reference lookups that come up constantly while sewing — how much fabric to buy, what seam allowance a technique calls for, which needle and thread pair with a fabric, what a US size converts to in another country's sizing, how deep a hem should be, roughly how a measurement changes between pattern sizes, what interfacing a collar needs, what zipper length a project takes, what an unfamiliar term means, or a quick unit conversion — answered instantly, without hunting through a pattern envelope or a dozen different blog charts.

What it does

A rough fabric yardage estimate for a garment type and size, adjusted for the fabric's width (fabric_yardage_estimator); standard seam allowance by sewing technique — quilting, garment sewing, French seam, upholstery, and more (seam_allowance_guide); recommended needle size/type and thread weight for 16 different fabric types (needle_thread_guide); clothing size conversion across US/UK/EU/India/Japan for women's, men's and kids' categories (size_conversion); standard hem allowance by garment type (hem_allowance_guide); a rough estimate of how a pattern measurement shifts when grading between two sizes, using general published grade-rule increments (pattern_grading_estimate); recommended interfacing weight/type for a fabric and application combination (interfacing_guide); typical zipper length and type by garment (zipper_length_guide); a glossary of common sewing terms (sewing_glossary); and genuine unit conversion between inches, centimeters, millimeters, yards and meters (measurement_convert).

What it is not

Not tied to any single pattern company's copyrighted chart, and not a substitute for the specific pattern or garment you're working from. Every figure here is a hand-curated, general-industry approximation — yardage, sizing, and grading all vary by brand, pattern company, and design details, sometimes by a full size or more. Always true up against the specific pattern's own instructions or a brand's own size chart before cutting fabric.

Tools

Fabric & Construction

fabric_yardage_estimator — A rough fabric yardage estimate for a garment or home-sewing project, adjusted for the fabric's width. Use for "how much fabric do I need for a size L shirt", "yardage for curtains on a medium window at 54in fabric". Args: garment_type, size, fabric_width_in.

seam_allowance_guide — Standard seam allowance by sewing technique or garment category (quilting ~1/4in, garment sewing ~5/8in, upholstery ~1/2-1in, and more). Use for "what seam allowance for quilting", "seam allowance for upholstery". Args: technique.

hem_allowance_guide — Standard hem allowance by garment or project type. Use for "how much hem allowance for a jacket", "hem allowance for curtains". Args: garment_type.

interfacing_guide — Recommended interfacing weight/type for a fabric + application combination. Use for "what interfacing for a collar on quilting cotton", "interfacing for a denim waistband". Args: fabric_type, application.

zipper_length_guide — Typical zipper length and type by garment or project type. Use for "what size zipper for a hoodie", "what zipper length for a 16in pillow cover". Args: garment_type.

Machine Setup

needle_thread_guide — Recommended sewing-machine needle size/type and thread weight for a given fabric type. Use for "what needle for denim", "what thread for silk chiffon". Args: fabric_type.

Sizing

size_conversion — Convert a clothing size across US/UK/EU/India/Japan for women's, men's, or kids' clothing. An approximate, general-industry mapping — exact sizing varies by brand. Use for "convert US women's 8 to UK", "what's a men's 40 chest in EU sizing". Args: size, from_system, to_system, category.

pattern_grading_estimate — A rough estimate of how a pattern measurement changes when grading between two sizes, using general published grade-rule increments. Exact grading depends on the specific pattern company — this is a general reference. Use for "estimate the waist at size 14 if it's 30in at size 10". Args: base_measurement, base_size, target_size, category, measurement_type.

Reference

sewing_glossary — Definitions of common sewing and textile terms (bias, grain, notion, understitching, ease, dart, basting, ...). Use for "what does understitching mean", "what's a dart". Args: term.

measurement_convert — Convert a measurement between inches, centimeters, millimeters, yards, and meters. Use for "convert 3 yards to meters", "convert 5/8 inch to mm". Args: value, from_unit, to_unit.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Thread — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Thread is. Thread is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a fully local sewing and textile reference and calculator toolkit: fabric yardage estimates, seam and hem allowances, needle/thread pairings, clothing size conversion, pattern grading estimates, interfacing and zipper guidance, a sewing glossary, and unit conversion. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup or calculation.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a garment type and size, a fabric type, a technique, a size and the systems to convert between, measurements, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from bundled, hand-curated reference files or computed directly, and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Thread is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Thread — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Thread connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Thread returns a fully local sewing and textile reference and calculator toolkit — fabric yardage estimates, seam and hem allowances, needle/thread pairings, clothing size conversion, pattern grading estimates, interfacing and zipper guidance, a sewing glossary, and unit conversion — from hand-curated, general-industry reference data and genuine unit-conversion arithmetic. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General reference, not a substitute for your pattern. Thread is an independent reference and calculator tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by any pattern company, fabric brand, or clothing retailer. Yardage, sizing, and grading figures are approximate, general-industry planning estimates; they are not exact and vary by pattern, brand, and design details. Always defer to the specific pattern's own instructions or a brand's own size chart before cutting fabric.
  3. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  4. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  5. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from bundled reference data or computed directly, and nothing is stored.
  6. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  7. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss — including wasted fabric, a misfit garment, or a failed project — arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  8. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
