About

Frond bundles indoor houseplant care into one connector, hand-curated and computed locally with no upstream calls. plant_care_info covers light, watering, humidity, soil and a conservative pet-toxicity note for 30+ houseplants — pothos and its varieties, snake plant, monstera, fiddle leaf fig, ZZ plant, peace lily, spider plant, philodendron, rubber plant, aloe vera, succulents (general and specific like echeveria/haworthia), orchid, boston fern, calathea, dracaena, chinese evergreen, jade plant, english ivy, croton, anthurium, bird of paradise, string of pearls, peperomia and more. plant_search finds a plant by partial name, alias or scientific name; plants_by_light_level and plants_by_difficulty filter the list. pest_identification identifies spider mites, fungus gnats, mealybugs, scale or aphids from a symptom, with a general treatment approach. propagation_guide gives the right method per species (stem cuttings, division, leaf cuttings, offsets). repotting_guide covers the general signs and how-to, plus specifics by plant or pot size. toxicity_check is phrased conservatively (commonly listed/reported, never an absolute claim) and always points to a vet or animal poison-control resource for a real ingestion concern. plant_glossary defines terms like variegation, node, aerial root and root-bound. Keyless; nothing stored; general plant-care information, not professional horticultural or veterinary advice.

What Frond is for

The question every houseplant owner eventually has — how much light does this actually need, why is it dying, is it safe around the cat, how do I turn one plant into three — answered from one hand-curated indoor houseplant guide, without hunting through a dozen contradictory blog posts.

What it does

Light, watering, humidity and soil needs plus a conservative pet-toxicity note for 30+ common houseplants — pothos and its variegated varieties, snake plant, monstera deliciosa, fiddle leaf fig, ZZ plant, peace lily, spider plant, philodendron, rubber plant, aloe vera, succulents as a group and specific ones like echeveria and haworthia, phalaenopsis orchid, boston fern, calathea, dracaena, chinese evergreen, jade plant, english ivy, croton, anthurium, bird of paradise, string of pearls, peperomia, and more (plant_care_info); a search across names, common aliases and scientific names (plant_search); a filter by light tolerance — low light, medium indirect, bright indirect, or direct sun tolerant (plants_by_light_level); a filter by care difficulty — beginner, intermediate, or advanced (plants_by_difficulty); identification of the five most common houseplant pests — spider mites, fungus gnats, mealybugs, scale and aphids — from a symptom description, with a general treatment approach (pest_identification); a species-specific propagation how-to, since the right method (stem cuttings in water, division, leaf cuttings, offsets) genuinely differs by plant (propagation_guide); the general signs it's time to repot and a brief how-to, plus specifics for a named plant or a pot-size category (repotting_guide); a conservatively phrased pet-toxicity check with a reminder to contact a vet or an animal poison-control resource if ingestion is suspected (toxicity_check); and a glossary of common houseplant terms like variegation, node, aerial root and root-bound (plant_glossary).

What it is not

Not a substitute for a vet or a professional horticulturist. Toxicity notes are deliberately conservative — phrased as "commonly listed/reported as..." rather than a hard clinical claim — because pet reactions vary with the amount eaten, the pet's size, and the specific plant part; a real ingestion concern always deserves a call to a veterinarian or an animal poison-control resource, not a lookup here. Pest treatment suggestions are a general starting point, not a guaranteed fix for an established infestation. Frond covers indoor houseplants specifically — for outdoor vegetables, herbs and garden ornamentals, the sibling GrowGuide connector covers that ground.

Tools

Plant Care

plant_care_info — Light, watering, humidity and soil needs for a houseplant, plus a conservative pet-toxicity note. Use for "how do I care for a pothos", "does a snake plant need bright light". Args: name.

plant_search — Search the 30+ houseplants in this guide by partial name, common alias, or scientific name. Use for "do you have anything on calathea", "what's a fiddle leaf fig". Args: query.

plants_by_light_level — Houseplants tolerant of a given light level. Use for "what plants survive in a dark room", "houseplants for a bright sunny window". Args: light_level.

plants_by_difficulty — Houseplants at a given care-difficulty level. Use for "easiest houseplants for beginners", "advanced houseplants for an experienced grower". Args: level.

Problems

pest_identification — Identify a common houseplant pest (spider mites, fungus gnats, mealybugs, scale, aphids) from a symptom description, with a general, informational treatment approach — not a guarantee. Use for "what's this webbing on my plant", "tiny bugs flying around my plant's soil". Args: symptom.

toxicity_check — Whether a plant is commonly reported as toxic to cats/dogs or generally considered pet-safe, phrased conservatively rather than as a hard clinical claim, with a reminder to contact a vet or an animal poison-control resource if ingestion is suspected. Use for "is a pothos toxic to cats", "can dogs be around a snake plant safely". Args: plant_name.

Growing On

propagation_guide — How to propagate a specific houseplant — stem cuttings, division, leaf cuttings, or offsets, whichever method(s) fit that species. Use for "how do I propagate my pothos", "can you grow a new snake plant from a leaf". Args: name.

repotting_guide — General signs it's time to repot (roots circling or growing out drainage holes, water running straight through, stunted growth) and a brief how-to, plus specifics for a named plant or a pot-size category. Use for "when should I repot my monstera", "signs a plant needs repotting". Args: plant_size_or_name.

Reference

plant_glossary — Definitions of common houseplant terms (variegation, node, aerial root, root-bound, humidity tray, and more). Use for "what does root-bound mean", "what's an aerial root". Args: term.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Frond — Privacy Policy

Effective 24 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Frond is. Frond is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for an indoor houseplant care guide: light, water, humidity and soil needs, pet-toxicity notes, pest identification, propagation and repotting guidance, and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a plant name, a light-level or difficulty filter, a symptom description, or a pot size — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any information about a specific pet or its health, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Frond is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Frond — Terms of Service

Effective 24 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Frond connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Frond returns a hand-curated indoor houseplant care guide — light, water, humidity and soil needs, pet-toxicity notes, pest identification, propagation and repotting guidance, and a glossary — for 30+ common houseplants, from data bundled with the server. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General information, not professional advice. Frond provides general plant-care information for reference only. It is not professional horticultural advice and, in particular, its toxicity notes are not veterinary advice: they are deliberately conservative, general statements ("commonly listed/reported as...") rather than a diagnosis or a clinical guarantee for any specific plant, pet, or amount ingested. If you suspect a pet has ingested part of a plant, contact a veterinarian or an animal poison-control resource immediately rather than relying on the Service.
  3. Individual results vary. Real plants, pests, and households vary — a care difficulty rating, a pest treatment suggestion, or a repotting timeline is a starting point, not a guarantee of a particular outcome.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss — including harm to a plant or a pet — arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
  10. Contact. Unify Dynamics LLC · agent@connectorbay.com · https://connectorbay.com/frond
