About

SmallBizCompliance puts general US small-business compliance categories and one real computed check behind one connector, hand-curated and fully local — nothing fetched, nothing stored. Compliance checklist: general categories by stage — pre-launch (business structure, DBA, EIN, state tax registration, licensing/permits concept, insurance concept), hiring your first employee (payroll tax accounts, new-hire reporting, Form I-9, workers' comp, minimum wage/overtime, required posters, OSHA's general duty clause), and scaling (multi-state registration, sales tax nexus, insurance limits, HR formalization, license renewals, the ACA employer mandate). Employee-count thresholds: real computed logic against documented federal headcount thresholds — OSHA injury/illness recordkeeping at 11+, Title VII/ADA/GINA at 15+, the ADEA and COBRA at 20+, FMLA and the ACA employer mandate at 50+ full-time-equivalent employees, and the WARN Act and EEO-1 reporting at 100+ — telling you which federal laws apply now, which don't yet, and what's next. Glossary: EIN, DBA, registered agent, business license vs. permit, workers' compensation, SUTA, Form I-9, sales tax nexus, the OSHA general duty clause, EEO-1, the WARN Act, exempt vs. non-exempt, and PEOs. General educational information about common compliance categories, not legal, tax, or accounting advice, and not a complete compliance audit of any specific business — requirements vary by state, county, city, industry, and entity type, and change over time.

Sources: Hand-curated general US small-business compliance reference (checklist categories, glossary) plus documented federal employee-count law thresholds (EEOC, DOL); fully local, zero upstream calls. General educational information, not legal, tax, or accounting advice.

What SmallBizCompliance is for

"What do I need before hiring my first employee", "compliance checklist for starting a small business", "what happens when I hit 50 employees", "do I need workers' comp with just one employee", "what's a registered agent" — the compliance questions a founder asks before they ever call a lawyer or accountant. SmallBizCompliance answers them from a hand-curated, fully local reference plus one real computed check — no upstream calls, no accounts, nothing stored.

SmallBizCompliance is general educational information about common US small-business compliance categories. It is NOT legal, tax, or accounting advice. It does not know your state, county, city, industry, or entity type, and actual requirements vary by all of those and change over time. Always confirm specifics with a licensed attorney, accountant, or your state/local licensing authority before acting.

What it does

Compliance checklist. General compliance categories organized by the stage a business is actually in: pre-launch (business structure, DBA registration, EIN, state tax registration, licensing/permits concept, insurance concept, a separate bank account), hiring your first employee (payroll tax accounts, new-hire reporting, Form I-9, workers' compensation, minimum wage/overtime basics, required workplace posters, OSHA's general duty clause), and scaling (multi-state registration, sales tax economic nexus, insurance limits, HR formalization, license renewals, the ACA employer mandate).

Employee-count thresholds. A real computed check against the documented federal employee-count thresholds at which major employment laws begin to apply: OSHA injury/illness recordkeeping at 11+, Title VII/ADA/GINA at 15+, the ADEA and COBRA at 20+, FMLA and the ACA employer mandate at 50+ full-time-equivalent employees, and the WARN Act and EEO-1 reporting at 100+. Give it a headcount and it tells you which federal laws apply now, which don't yet, and the next threshold coming up.

Glossary. Plain-language definitions of terms that come up constantly in small-business compliance: EIN, DBA, registered agent, business license vs. permit, workers' compensation, SUTA, Form I-9, sales tax nexus, the OSHA general duty clause, EEO-1, the WARN Act, exempt vs. non-exempt employees, and PEOs.

What it is not

Not legal, tax, or accounting advice, not a complete compliance audit of any specific business, and not a substitute for a licensed attorney, accountant, or your state/local licensing authority. The employee-count thresholds cover federal law only — state and local law frequently imposes similar (or stricter) protections at much lower headcounts, sometimes from employee number one — and several federal thresholds use headcount definitions more precise than a single number (a specific number of calendar weeks, or the ACA's full-time-equivalent formula). It does not know your industry's specific licenses or permits.

Privacy policy

SmallBizCompliance — Privacy Policy

Effective 28 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What SmallBizCompliance is. SmallBizCompliance is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for US small-business compliance reference information: a checklist by business stage, an employee-count threshold check, and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — at most a business stage name, an employee headcount, or a glossary search term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is computed on our server and nothing is stored. Every response is drawn from hand-curated reference content or computed from a documented threshold table; no request is forwarded to any third party, and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any information about your actual business, entity, employees, or state of operation beyond an optional stage name or headcount you pass to a lookup, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — every tool is computed locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. SmallBizCompliance is a general-audience service for adults; we knowingly collect no personal data from anyone.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

SmallBizCompliance — Terms of Service

Effective 28 September 2026. These terms govern use of the SmallBizCompliance connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. SmallBizCompliance returns hand-curated, general reference content about common US small-business compliance categories — a checklist by business stage, a computed federal employee-count threshold check, and a glossary. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. NOT legal, tax, or accounting advice. Every response from SmallBizCompliance is general educational information about common compliance categories, prepared without knowledge of your state, county, city, industry, entity type, or the facts of your business. It is not a recommendation, not individualized legal, tax, or accounting advice, and using the Service does not create an attorney-client or any other professional relationship. Consult a licensed attorney, accountant, or your state/local licensing authority before making compliance decisions for your own business.
  3. Not a complete compliance audit. The checklist and threshold check cover general categories and federal thresholds only. They do not identify every license, permit, tax registration, or obligation that could apply to a specific business, and they do not cover state or local law, which frequently imposes additional or stricter requirements — sometimes at much lower employee counts than the federal thresholds shown.
  4. Rules change. Employment-law thresholds, licensing requirements, and tax registration rules change by federal, state, and local legislation and regulation over time. Always confirm current requirements with a licensed professional or the relevant government authority before relying on anything from this Service for an actual business decision.
  5. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  6. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  7. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered on our server and nothing is stored.
  8. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  9. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any legal, financial, or other loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  10. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
