About

StepGoal is a daily-step-goal toolkit computed locally with no upstream calls. daily_step_target computes a recommended step count from age and activity level using the widely cited Tudor-Locke pedometer-index baselines, adjusted down for older adults (research shows the benefit curve plateauing lower) and up for a weight-management or activity-increase goal, with a gradual +1,000-steps-every-2-weeks plan if you give your current daily steps. steps_to_distance_calories converts steps to distance with a stride-length-from-height estimate (the pedometer-industry formula, sex-adjustable) and, with weight and pace, to calories via the standard MET formula. weekly_progress_tracker takes a week of daily steps and a target and returns the total, average, days meeting target, and a real least-squares trend (improving/steady/declining). step_count_reference explains where '10,000 steps' actually came from (a 1965 Japanese pedometer ad campaign) and gives the classification and cadence tables the other tools use. General fitness information, not medical advice. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

Sources: Computed locally from documented walking-research classifications (Tudor-Locke pedometer index) and standard stride-length/MET formulas; fully local, zero upstream calls

About StepGoal

StepGoal is a daily-step-goal toolkit: four tools, all computed locally with no upstream calls, no accounts and no tracking.

  • Daily step target computes a recommended daily step count from your age and activity level, using the widely cited Tudor-Locke pedometer-index baselines, adjusted down for older adults (research shows the benefit curve plateauing at a lower count) and up for a weight-management or activity-increase goal — with a gradual step-up plan if you give your current daily steps.
  • Steps to distance/calories converts a step count to distance using a stride-length-from-height estimate (the pedometer-industry formula, sex-adjustable), and to calories with weight and pace via the standard MET formula.
  • Weekly progress tracker takes a week of daily step counts and a target, and returns the total, average, days meeting target, and a real least-squares trend (improving, steady or declining).
  • Step-count reference explains where "10,000 steps" actually came from (a 1965 Japanese pedometer marketing campaign, not a research finding), and gives the classification and cadence tables the other tools use.

Tools

Targets

daily_step_target — Recommended daily step target from documented walking-research baselines, adjusted for age and goal, with an explanation of where "10,000 steps" came from. Use for "what should my daily step goal be at 68, moderately active". Args: age, activity_level, goal, current_daily_steps.

Conversion

steps_to_distance_calories — Converts a step count to distance (stride-length-from-height estimate) and, with weight and pace, to calories via the MET formula. Use for "how far is 8,000 steps for someone 5'6\" and calories at 70kg". Args: steps, height_cm, weight_kg, pace, sex.

Tracking

weekly_progress_tracker — Weekly total, daily average, days meeting target, and a real trend (least-squares slope). Use for "was this a good step week against a target of 8000". Args: daily_steps, target.

Reference

step_count_reference — Where "10,000 steps" came from, the step-count classification, activity-level baselines, and the cadence/MET table. Use for "where does the 10,000 steps number come from". Args: none.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool computes from bundled constants; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input).
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

StepGoal — Privacy Policy

Effective 28 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What StepGoal is. StepGoal is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for daily step-goal calculations: age/activity-adjusted step targets, a steps-to-distance/calorie converter, a weekly-progress tracker, and step-count reference tables. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the values needed for that one calculation.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — an age, activity level and goal, an optional current daily-step figure, a step count with height/weight/pace/sex for conversion, or a list of daily step counts with a target for tracking — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is computed on our server and nothing is stored. All reference constants (step classification, activity baselines, cadence/MET tables, stride-length factors) are hand-curated and bundled with the server; no request is forwarded to any third party, and no query — including any step counts or weight/height figures you enter — is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything. We do not build a fitness profile from your queries: each call is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, contacts, or account credentials. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — every tool is computed locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. StepGoal is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

StepGoal — Terms of Service

Effective 28 September 2026. These terms govern use of the StepGoal connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. StepGoal returns daily-step-goal calculations — age/activity-adjusted step targets, a steps-to-distance/calorie converter, a weekly-progress tracker, and step-count reference tables — computed from hand-curated constants and standard formulas bundled with the server. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General fitness information, not medical advice. StepGoal's targets and calculations are general fitness information based on published population-level research and common pedometer-industry formulas, not an individualized medical or fitness prescription. If you have a health condition that affects your ability to walk or exercise, talk to a doctor before changing your activity level based on this tool.
  3. Estimates, not measurements. Step targets, stride-length-based distance, and calorie estimates rely on general formulas and population averages; individual stride length, gait and metabolism vary, so treat figures as estimates rather than precise measurements.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered on our server and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
