About

Tile is a fully local, hand-curated Mahjong rules & scoring reference across four regional variants. rule_lookup gives one variant's full rule summary: region, tile count, turn order, hand requirement, calling rules, notable features and scoring style. scoring_summary gives that variant's scoring approach in plain language without reproducing any rulebook's exact numeric tables. variant_comparison lines up two named variants side by side. hand_type looks up one named scoring hand with its cross-variant aliases, which variant(s) recognize it, and a qualitative value tier. tile_glossary defines the physical tiles and melds (pung, chow, kong, dot/bam/crak, honor tiles, flowers, jokers); term_glossary defines gameplay/scoring vocabulary (wall, riichi, dora, furiten, fan/han, Charleston, chicken hand). beginner_tips gives an ordered list of tips, general and variant-specific. tileset_overview describes how a physical set is put together and how tile counts differ by variant. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

Sources: Hand-curated from widely published, general Mahjong knowledge as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls; American hand families described generally rather than as any single year's National Mah Jongg League card

What Tile is for

"What are the rules of Hong Kong Mahjong?", "what's a pung vs a chow?", "what is Thirteen Orphans?", "how does Riichi scoring work?" — a hand-curated Mahjong reference that answers with real rule summaries and scoring concepts across four regional variants, not a vague description of "the game of Mahjong" in general.

What it does

rule_lookup gives one variant's full rule summary — region, tile count, turn order, hand requirement, calling rules, notable features and scoring style — for Chinese Classical, Japanese Riichi, American, and Hong Kong play. scoring_summary gives just that variant's scoring approach in plain language (fan/han-based, card-based, etc.) without reproducing any rulebook's exact numeric tables. variant_comparison lines up two named variants' rules and scoring side by side. hand_type looks up one of 34 named scoring hands (Thirteen Orphans, Pinfu, Toitoi, Seven Pairs, Nine Gates, and more) with its cross-variant aliases, which variant(s) recognize it, and a qualitative value tier. tile_glossary defines the physical tiles and melds — pung, chow, kong, dot/bam/crak, honor tiles, flowers, jokers. term_glossary defines gameplay and scoring vocabulary that isn't a specific tile or meld — wall, dead wall, riichi, dora, furiten, fan/han/fu, Charleston, chicken hand. beginner_tips gives a curated, ordered list of tips for someone new to the game, some general and some variant-specific. tileset_overview describes how a physical tile set is put together and how total tile count differs by variant (136 vs 144 vs 152).

What it is not

Not a rules engine or a hand analyzer — it doesn't score a hand you describe or validate a tile layout, it's a reference you look things up in. Not a reproduction of any single rulebook's exact numeric scoring tables, and specifically not a reproduction of the National Mah Jongg League's copyrighted annual card of American hand patterns — American hand families are described generally rather than as any one year's exact list. Hong Kong-style Mahjong is commonly played for small cash stakes among friends; this reference covers rules and scoring concepts only, never betting advice, odds, or bankroll strategy.

Tools

Rules & Scoring

rule_lookup — Full rule summary for one Mahjong variant: region, tile count, turn order, hand requirement, calling rules, notable features and scoring style. Use for "what are the rules of Hong Kong Mahjong", "how does turn order work in Riichi". Args: variant.

scoring_summary — One variant's scoring approach in plain language — fan-based, han/fu-based, or card-based — without reproducing any rulebook's exact numeric scoring table. Use for "how does Riichi scoring work", "how are points scored in American Mahjong". Args: variant.

variant_comparison — A side-by-side comparison of two named variants' tile count, hand requirement, calling rules, scoring style and notable features. Use for "compare American and Japanese Mahjong", "Hong Kong vs Chinese Classical, what's different". Args: variant_a, variant_b.

Hands & Glossary

hand_type — Full detail for one named scoring hand: its aliases (including per-language names), which variant(s) recognize it, its category and a qualitative value tier, and a plain-language description. Use for "what is Thirteen Orphans", "what does Pinfu require", "is Toitoi a big hand". Args: name.

tile_glossary — Definitions of the physical tiles and melds — suits (dots/bams/craks), terminal vs simple, honor tiles (winds and dragons), flower/season/joker bonus tiles, and pung/chow/kong/pair melds. Use for "what's a pung", "what does dot/bam/crak mean", "what are honor tiles". Args: term.

term_glossary — Definitions of gameplay and scoring vocabulary that isn't a specific tile or meld — wall, dead wall, dealer, self-draw, discard, riichi, dora, furiten, fan/han/fu, Charleston, chicken hand, and more. Use for "what's furiten mean", "what is the Charleston", "what's the difference between fan and han". Args: term.

Getting Started

beginner_tips — A curated, ordered list of tips for someone new to Mahjong — some general across all variants, some specific to Japanese Riichi, American, or Hong Kong play. Use for "what should a Mahjong beginner know", "tips for someone new to Riichi". Args: count.

tileset_overview — How a physical Mahjong tile set is put together — the three suits, the seven honor tiles, bonus flower/season/joker tiles, and how total tile count differs by variant (136 vs 144 vs 152). Use for "how many tiles are in a Mahjong set", "what tiles are in the game".

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Privacy policy

Tile — Privacy Policy

Effective 25 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Tile is. Tile is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated, fully local Mahjong rules & scoring reference — rule summaries, scoring concepts, named hand types, a tile/meld glossary, a gameplay-terms glossary, beginner tips, and a tile-set overview, across four regional variants. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a variant name, a hand-type name, a glossary term, a tip count, or a pair of variant names to compare — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Tile is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Tile — Terms of Service

Effective 25 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Tile connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Tile returns a hand-curated, fully local Mahjong rules & scoring reference — rule summaries, scoring concepts, named hand types with cross-variant aliases, a tile/meld glossary, a gameplay-terms glossary, beginner tips, and a tile-set composition overview, across Chinese Classical, Japanese Riichi, American, and Hong Kong play. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. Reference, not a rules engine. Tile is an informational reference, not a hand validator, scorer, or game client. It does not know the specific tiles in front of you, and its scoring descriptions are general summaries, not a substitute for the exact scoring table your table, club, or app has agreed to use.
  3. Not the National Mah Jongg League's card. American Mahjong hand families are described generally. Neither the current-year National Mah Jongg League card nor its specific point values are reproduced here; consult the League's own published card for official American Mahjong scoring.
  4. Play responsibly. Hong Kong-style Mahjong is often played for cash stakes. This Service covers rules and scoring concepts only — it never provides betting advice, odds, or bankroll strategy, and use of the Service for any real-money play is entirely at your own discretion and risk.
  5. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  6. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  7. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  8. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  9. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the Service — including reliance on it while playing for money. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  10. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
