What Zakat is for

The calculations a practising Muslim household needs, done with today's numbers and the reasoning shown: what the nisab is in your currency, how much zakat you owe on your savings, gold, investments and business stock, what zakat al-fitr comes to for your family, how an estate is divided among the heirs, whether a listed company passes a shariah screen, and what the vocabulary of Islamic finance means.

What it does

Nisab from live gold and silver prices in any of 160 currencies (85 g / 595 g, with Hanafi weights). A zakat calculator that totals cash, gold and silver (grams or value), investments, accessible retirement balances, business inventory, receivables, crypto and other assets, deducts debts due within the year, tests the chosen nisab standard and returns 2.5 % with a breakdown and the fiqh notes that commonly matter (hawl, jewellery, long-term debt). Zakat al-fitr by household size and staple, with a money amount when a local price is given. Inheritance (faraid) for the common heirs — husband or wives, sons and daughters (or a predeceased son's children), father and mother (or grandparents in their place), full siblings — after debts, funeral costs and a bequest capped at one third, applying 'awl and radd and the umariyyatan rule, with each heir's fraction and amount. A shariah screen for U.S.-listed companies from SEC XBRL filings: business activity by SIC code and AAOIFI-style ratio tests (interest-bearing debt and cash-plus-interest-securities under 33 % of assets, interest income under 5 % of revenue) with a pass / review / fail verdict. What it is not

Not a fatwa: the majority Sunni positions are applied and named, schools differ on details (jewellery, nisab weights, retirement funds), and the inheritance calculator covers the common heirs only — half and uterine siblings, uncles, cousins and unusual combinations need a scholar. The stock screen is indicative (index providers use market capitalisation and audited detail). Amounts you enter are computed in memory and never stored.

Zakat

nisab — Today's nisab thresholds in a currency from live gold and silver prices: gold standard (85 g), silver standard (595 g), Hanafi weights, and the metal prices used. Use for "what is the nisab today", "nisab in rupees". Args: currency.

zakat_calculator — Compute zakat: totals your zakatable assets, deducts debts due, checks the nisab on today's prices and returns 2.5 % of the base with a breakdown and the fiqh notes that matter. Use for "calculate my zakat", "do I owe zakat with $8,000 savings and 30 g of gold". zakat_al_fitr — Zakat al-fitr for a household: the staple-food quantity per person (one sa', about 2–2.5 kg by staple) and, with a local price, the money equivalent; when it must be paid. Inheritance

inheritance — Divide an estate under Islamic inheritance law (faraid) for the common heirs: spouse, parents (or grandparents), sons and daughters (or a son's children), full siblings — after debts, funeral costs and a bequest capped at a third — with 'awl and radd applied and each heir's fraction and amount. Use for "how is the estate split between a wife, two sons and a daughter", "my mother died leaving husband, father, mother". shariah_screen — Shariah-compliance screen for a U.S.-listed company from its SEC filings: business activity by SIC code (alcohol, tobacco, gambling, conventional finance, pork, adult content flagged), and AAOIFI-style ratios — interest-bearing debt and cash-plus-interest-securities under 33 % of assets, interest income under 5 % of revenue — with a pass / needs review / fails verdict and purification reminder. Use for "is Apple halal", "screen Tesla for shariah compliance". Indicative only. Args: company.

glossary — Islamic finance terms explained — riba, gharar, maysir, murabaha, ijara, mudarabah, musharakah, sukuk, takaful, qard hasan, waqf, faraid, 'awl, radd, wasiyyah, mahr, salam, istisna, tawarruq, ushr, kaffarah, fidyah and more — with Arabic and related terms. Conventions

• Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
• Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
• Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Zakat — Privacy Policy

Effective 23 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Zakat is. Zakat is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for Islamic-finance calculations and reference: nisab, zakat, zakat al-fitr, inheritance shares, a shariah stock screen and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us the figures and choices needed for a calculation, a company name for a screen, or a term to look up.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call (asset and debt amounts, a currency, household size, heir counts, an estate value, a ticker or company name, a glossary term), the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Your figures are computed, not stored. Zakat and inheritance calculations run entirely in memory on our server and the amounts you enter are never written to disk, logged in request bodies, sent to any third party or used for anything else. Only a currency code (for exchange rates) and a ticker or company name (for the stock screen) go upstream. Successful upstream answers — metal prices, exchange rates, company filings — are cached in memory for 30 minutes to a day, keyed by currency or company, never by your figures.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, contacts, bank or brokerage details or any account credentials. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. gold-api.com (metal prices), ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com, exchange rates) and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (data.sec.gov, company filings). Each receives only the currency or company lookup and our server's IP address, never yours or your figures. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. For users in California, the EU/UK and elsewhere, our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Zakat is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Zakat — Terms of Service

Effective 23 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Zakat connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

1. The Service. Zakat provides Islamic-finance calculations and reference — nisab, zakat and zakat al-fitr calculators, an inheritance calculator, a shariah stock screen and a glossary. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
2. Sources and method. Metal prices from gold-api.com and exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API under their terms; company data from SEC EDGAR (public domain). Nisab weights, the zakat rate, fitr measures, inheritance shares and screening ratios follow widely held majority (Sunni) positions and AAOIFI-style conventions, stated in the results.
3. Not a fatwa or financial advice. Results are information to take to a qualified scholar, zakat body or adviser. Schools of law differ; the inheritance calculator covers common heirs only; the stock screen is indicative and not a certification. Decisions taken on the basis of the Service are your own.
4. Acceptable use. Do not use the Service to bulk-scrape the sources or to circumvent rate limits. Automated use within the published limits is welcome.
5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your figures are computed in memory and nothing is stored.
7. Attribution. gold-api.com; ExchangeRate-API; U.S. SEC EDGAR.
8. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
9. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.

When you report a problem, include the question you asked your agent, roughly when, and which agent you used (for example Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini). Never send us passwords, account numbers or ID numbers. Zakat never asks for them.
