GIF vs WebP vs APNG vs video, spec-verified, plus a computed size estimator

Real questions, and the tools your agent calls to answer them.

Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.
Sources: Hand-curated from the long-stable, publicly documented GIF89a specification and the WebP/APNG/PNG container formats (settled technical fact, unchanged for decades), plus a real computed heuristic model for the size estimator; fully local, zero upstream calls
The publisher, Unify Dynamics LLC, states that tool inputs are processed in memory and not retained.

"GIF vs WebP vs video, which should I use?", "why does my fast GIF look slower than I set it?", "how do I make my GIF smaller?", "what does GIF loop count 0 mean?" — a format reference verified against the real, long-stable GIF89a/WebP/APNG/PNG specifications rather than folk wisdom about how these formats work.
format_info explains GIF, animated WebP, APNG, or video in full — color depth, transparency model, compression,
audio support, how animation is stored, maximum dimensions, and platform support; format_comparison lines
several up side by side. when_to_use is a decision guide: describe a need (audio, smallest file size for
messaging, widest legacy compatibility, transparency with smooth gradients, broadcast-quality high motion) and it
recommends a format with a stated reason.
frame_rate_tips, palette_size_tips, and file_size_optimization_tips are hand-curated but spec-verified
reference tips — including a genuinely useful, less-commonly-known fact: GIF frame delay is stored in
1/100-second units, and many renderers historically treat a 0-or-1-centisecond delay as if it were 10 (0.1s),
quietly capping very fast animations around 10fps. gif_technical_limits states GIF89a's actual specification
facts directly: the 256-colors-per-frame indexed palette, 1-bit (on/off only) transparency, LZW lossless
compression, the centisecond frame-delay unit, the four disposal methods, and the format's theoretical maximum
canvas size.
loop_count_explainer is computed: give a specific GIF loop-count value (or omit it for the general rule) and it
explains exactly what that value means during playback — 0 loops forever, a nonzero N plays once then repeats N
more times. estimate_gif_size is a computed, explicitly labeled ROUGH heuristic: give a canvas size, frame rate,
duration, palette size, and a motion-level tier (low/medium/high), and it estimates a file size using a documented
assumed compression ratio per tier — real LZW compression is highly content-dependent, so this is a planning
estimate, never a precise prediction. gif_glossary defines LZW, disposal method, indexed color, dithering,
interlacing, frame delay, palette, loop count, transparency index, and alpha channel.
Not a GIF encoder — it doesn't touch, analyze, or produce any actual image file; every tool answers from reference data or computes a number from the inputs you give it. The file-size estimator in particular is a labeled heuristic based on an assumed compression ratio, not an analysis of real footage, and actual results for any specific image can differ substantially.

What Gifcraft is. Gifcraft is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated animated-image format reference and computed size/loop-count calculators. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup or computation.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a format name, a stated need, or the width/height/fps/ duration/palette/motion values for the size estimator — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from bundled, hand-curated reference data or computed locally, and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise, and no actual image file is ever transmitted to or processed by this Service. No query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire reference is bundled with the server and every computation runs locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Gifcraft is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
